The Manchester United Thread

Lol, Jose forgot all the referring decision they got this season and last season. Never seen a worse manager when it comes to moaning about everything.

Or heck, if we want more bostering in the midfield..

DDG
Rafael - Jones- Rojo - Shaw
Blind/Carrick
Fellaini - Herrera
Januzaj di Maria
Rooney

Our main problem is trying to accomodate all the 'star players' which won't really work out.

Thats the team/formation I was saying in my post. But I would swap Herrara for Carrick. We need his experience in the side.

Somebody picked apart my post saying we dont need blind and carrick in the same team. I think otherwise. Blind sitting infront of the back 4 allows him to cover at left back when Shaw gets forward with carrick dropping back. This also allows fellaini go get forward behind the striker. Carrick is a must in the team. For his experience and ability to control the tempo of the game. But Carrick is much more of an interceptor rather than a tackler. He relies on his reading of the game to be in the right position to intercept passes rather than go in tackling like Blind does. We need both for balance in the team. Carrick isnt getting any younger. So as I said, there will be plenty of opportunity for Herrera to get games in place of carrick next season providing we get the extra games in europe. But until we have steadied the ship and found a consistant balance, experience should start for now.

Di Maria is very much a winger. Always has been. It was only Ancelloti that started dropping him into a midfield. And even that was as the most attacking of the three, so basically playing behind a striker. He had Alonso and Modric doing the dirty work allowing him to find space further forward and run at a defence. Then obviously the signing of Bale kept him in that midfield/attcking midfield position. Looking at his attributs he would be far better suited going back to a winger. Especially in the Premier League. He has loads of pace and a brilliant cross. The Premier League is much more physical than La Liga and he's being found out playing in midfield. Just look at his performances. It doesnt take a genius to work out what needs to be changed. He's expected to work hard in our midfield. Constantly closing down and getting stuck in. The Premier League has a fast pace to begin with. But using a winger centrally in La Liga and doing a good job is a whole new ball game when in the Premier League. He will not cut it centrally. Simple as that for me.

As for the right hand side, yes it is a bit of a problem at the moment. Which is why we need solid work rate down that side. Which is why I think the best option would be Rafael and Valencia. They will run all day, get stuck in, cover for each other when needed, and attack and defend as a unit. We can always concentrate attack down the left with Di Maria or centrally through fellaini and rooney with di maria tucking in as an option and shaw providing width.

But we really do need to start building a team and not just throwing names in and hoping everything clicks.

Burnley and United, long ball kings tomorrow. Look forward to wilson and fellaini up top, wazza in midfield and di maria/januzaj not wide.

WOW! Did anyone see Janko goal for Bolton on his debut. What a screamer about 20 yards out hits the underside of the bar, keeper no chance :) Also Will Keane got an assist tonight 1 goal 1 assist in 2 games.

Blind and Carrick in the same team is a strict No. They both lack mobility and team will be easy to contain. One should play in midfield. Herrera should start every game IMO. He offers completely different skill set. Defensively he is good, never backs down from a tackle, he can pass and most importantly he is a positive passer, he looks for forward pass and risky pass.

Di Maria's best season was when he played in midfield. Yes it's a midfield 3, similarly we have Blind and Herrera to do the defensive work and Di Maria can work on attacking game.

All true , but how's that even an argument against playing Di Maria in midfield? Ancelotti has had remarkable success in finding new positions for established players. Eg. he reinvented Pirlo from typical number 10 into defensive midfielder. That didn't work so bad, did it?
