The Manchester United Thread

I'm finding it very hard to get excited about United games these days (and I was a supporter through the 80's).
Checking the TV listings and seeing United live used to make me super excited and I'd get the beers and match munchies in.
Nowadays I watch them out of the corner of my eye while having a cup of tea and reading a book :S

Last season it was horrific, at least this season at the start I was excited just reading the names on paper. Di Maria, Falcao, Rooney, RVP, Herrera, Shaw but performance is just meh.

What do you make of the refusal to engage with the players during the match?
The players on the pitch can't see everything going on around them and in my opinion can be helped by observations and advice from the coaches.
Even helping to coach our local kids team, a bit of info passed on to the players can turn a game around.

Yeah that's weird as he was very active on touch line before. Now he doesn't believe shouting from touch line. We are not even putting any pressure on refs too.

Would love to see eccentric Van Gaal on touchline, at least make players **** in their pants.

All true , but how's that even an argument against playing Di Maria in midfield? Ancelotti has had remarkable success in finding new positions for established players. Eg. he reinvented Pirlo from typical number 10 into defensive midfielder. That didn't work so bad, did it?

I see your point but we are talking about the Premier League here, not Spain or Italy. Its unlike any other league in the world. Even the best players come here and look like they have never kicked a ball in their life. The argument is his performances there for all to see so far. Not good enough.

IMO we are crying out for a bit of quality width in the team and we have one of the best wingers in the world. And what do we do? Put him in central midfield where IMO he has neither the skillset or attitude to be successful there in the premier league. And its not like we are short of options in midfield with Carrick, Blind, Herrera, Fellaini, Rooney. Then we have players like Falcao and RVP constantly going out wide to find space and its a wonder why we are struggling to score goals or attack with any real conviction? And using a defender/wingback to do the job of one of the best wingers in the world.

*Rooney likes a dive about in net in training and by all accounts isnt too bad their. Might as well stick him in tonight against Burnley. You never know, he might be able to come out like Neuer and act as a DLP.

LVG is stubborn and with his record he has every right to believe his "philosophy" will come good, and I believe it will with the right players in the right positions when we strengthen next season, but this season he MUST play to the strengths of the squad before its too late. I believe that to be with wingers. Especially Di Maria out wide with his pace and crossing ability. We have a great header of the ball in fellaini. Falcao even if the balls are being put in the box for him but at the moment they are not really. Even Rooney isnt to bad with his head given the opportunity. Using fellaini to knock down balls like LVG was saying about winning the second ball.

It will be interesting to see his selection tonight considering the long ball jibes from weekend. Im hoping for Di Maria out wide and the team to attack with more pace but I cant see it happening. With Shaw suspended, I can see a back 3 again with possibly McNair starting. At home against Burnley I'd even put Di Maria at LWB. If he shows his real quality going forward, we shouldnt need him much defensively. Blind can always cover LB when Di Maria is forward anyway.

*Joke. Just making a point.

Here's a delightful stat.

Wayne Rooney has not had a shot on target in the Premier League in 2015, despite playing 450 minutes.

Not one for moaning. But this is getting fecking annoying now, same **** unbalanced line up again! How on earth RVP or Januzaj deserve to start and god Rooney in midfield again SIGH....Oh well rant over just get the 3 fecking points!

Im hoping its at least a flat 4-4-2 with Di Maria and Januzaj on the wings. Keep Falcao and RVP in the box with plenty of crosses, then see what happens. Especially with Rooney lurking around the edge of the box like a Scholes of old.

But no doubt it will end up being some kind of daft diamond with Di Maria and Rooney in midfield and Januzaj at the tip, taking Di Maria completely out of the game before he's even kicked a ball.

Reports its a diamond mate :(

Let's try to be positive. Januzaj will have field day against their slow defense, and Di Maria will assist both RVP and Falcao after Rooney scores from pen when Mata totally nutmegged three players and rabona flicked over the keeper, but he had none of that, cynically fouling Mata and getting red card.

Oh well least Mc Nair will hopefully have a good game and put in some good crosses, one thing Valencia cant do. Rafa must be a gonna in the summer!

Onless twatenberg is ref there will be no red cards tonight.

2 statues up front. No Herrera again, bit weird as he could play cm and that would free Rooney to play further up the pitch. Lvg is one stubborn git, feel he's done it to try and prove a point to big sam and other knockers. It days gone by we would trounce a team like burnley but can see us winning by 2 goals playing poorly. Glad McNair is right back, would've been better if Wilson and Rooney were up top
