The Manchester United Thread

Lets be honest, United only finished lower than 4th because of Moyes. The squad they had last season was well capable of finishing in the Top 4. Don't forget that the very same squad were champions right before Moyes came. Since then the squad has only been strengthened leaps and bounds. Don't get sucked into this whole idea of how 'United are terribly far behind and need so much work'. They were champions just 2 seasons ago for Christ sake and only improved since then

We'd have been top 3 easy if fergie stayed on or Jose was hired.

Your 13 points off the lead, in this division thats a lifetime behind in March. Lucky Spurs and 'Pool got off to a slow start, i htink you'll nab 4th though (seems weird to say.. lol)

Work needed to be done for the longevity of that team, before Moyes arrived. The non transfer summer or waiting and non activity before his contract kicked in was a clusterfuck. tbf his targets for the summer before he left were the crux of a decent team, Kloss, Herrera, Hummels, Shaw.

Hard to say but considering what Jose managed with a similarly limited squad in his first season, you probably would have. Players would have easily succumbed to him as well after the Moyes debacle

You do remember the Chelsea team, Jose took over finished 2nd and made the champs league semi final right?

What a load of tosh tbh how can you say that. Football under Fergie was poor his last 2 seasons and we only won the league in his last season because everyone else was *****. I think we have improved the squad but not the team imo. Look who has left and who has come in since Fergie left. We are defo short on quality, but I admit we should be doing better.

Fergie never finished below 3rd in the premier league era and lol just came off winning the league by around 11 points but yeah sure he wouldn't have challenged again, okay fella.

And the football was still better than anything we've seen since and he was winning doing it, who knows we might have challenged for the champions league also if not for that ref.

Im not saying he would not but you cant say he would either. Phelan said in an interview after Fergie left he knew what was coming and did not fancy the job rebuilding a team again. With all the other reasons for leaving on top of this. People make out Fergie never made any mistakes but he made some of the same LVG is making now. He has his part to play as well.

I've slated fergie many a time on here for his dealings in the market post ronaldo leaving but my point was we wouldn't have fell like we did if he had stayed, it wasn't meant to start a pointless debate.

Also plenty of different stuff about fergie's retirement and timing because didn't he tell kagawa and/or rvp that he'd be staying on and then went and signed zaha and rumour obviously has it, we had deals for garay and strootman/thiago lined up.

I'm not sure exactly but his decision to retire came quite sudden in around february right? I'm almost certain if this is the case up until then he was planning for the next year or two and you saw it for moments in that season when kagawa was more prominent through the middle and welbeck became almost key (madrid home and away comes to mind and dropping rooney)

Who knows he might of kept rvp fit and firing for an extra year which would have almost certain had us challenging if the defence also held up.

More credit to Rodgers then. He nearly brought Liverpool to the title last season despite barely spending anywhere close to what LVG has spent

Lol obviously you didn't watch us last season if you think our team was very good. And no he didn't spend huge cash on the team in his first transfer window unlike LVG and still nearly brought them to the title despite having more competitions to focus on. Why do I bring Jose into the discussion? Because LVG claims to be a top manager so I am comparing him likewise to other top managers and what they achieved with limited if not inferior teams in the league in their first season

And Jose didn't lose core team like ManUtd did this season. No Rodgers was better than Jose despite not spending 100 plus Million on the team which had Hazard, Oscar, Terry, Azpi, Cech and many other players.

2 years back your argument was how Chelsea had such a good team, Ramires was one of the best in Europe, Mata was the best player in PL and now you are saying it was poor team. Nice try. Chelsea's weakness was strikers and poor choice of managers. Not talent in the team.

Apparently Berahino and his agent were in directors box yesterday, wouldn't mind signing him at all. Very talented players and has pace to stretch defense.

Makes me laugh how people can say we have strengthened considering we lost Ferdie,Vidic,Fletch,Scholes,Giggs,Evra maybe more. Cant see how we have replaced them and all of a sudden become a much better team!

I would not mind him tbh. Like you said has the qualities you mentioned and can finish to. And I think his contract is out next Summer.

Never replaced Welbeck... criminal move :p

Berahino would be a nice cheap option and more on the europa league level, seems like the right signing then.

Part of Fergies great success and constant challenging was built on stability as much as anything else. All im saying is we will never have anything like that again if we continue down this road of shifting out managers after they struggle in the 1st season.

Again you're talking to the wrong person, i never said i want LVG out and my fergie/jose comment was about not hiring moyes and IF fergie never retired.

But on the other side questions have to be asked if we're still this poor next season in style and league points. Plus then you look who we still have left to play, we could easily go from 5 losses atm in the legaue to 7, 8 or 9 who knows given some of our performances and gauranteed defensive lapses only to be saved by dave.

The lack of chances we create and defensive errors has been staggering at times this season.

We should have done lot better with the team we have but people underestimate how big a change is happening at United. Losing Fergie and after that losing so many key players who were part of success.

That's nonsense, if we sign Dybala then you would wank yourself to death because he is South American. Berahino is very good talent and will play for big team in near future,

Trust me if things carry on like this next season I wont be happy. I just expected it to be this sort of season.
