You only start making mental cash when you have a city job working 80+ hours a week (and I'll never understand why people do that, no matter what they're getting paid). Other than that, you'll get a couple grand more at best, which won't even cover the rent difference. Also depends how keen you are to aspire to the top end restaurants and members' clubs. I can see how the exclusivity appeals to a famous footballer, but they're the last places I'd wanna go, regardless of what I earn.
You don't really need to be making mental cash to enjoy it though, just a decent wage. Wages wise, I can only speak for my niche, but I know I'm getting a good 20% extra than my friends working the same job in other cities.
It does depend on what you want to do, but the quality tends to work its way down to pretty much everything. Standards just tend to be higher from what I've experienced. You don't need to be eating nordic small plates at a 3 starred restaurant to be enjoy the perks of dining in the capital. It's pretty hard to go anywhere within zone 1-3 and not be tripping over good places to eat at every price range, because the competition is just so ******* fierce. Even the neighbourhood restaurants raise their game to a level that you would never expect. The same can be said for lots of other areas outside of food too, it's just the area I personally find most interesting.
