The Manchester United Thread

You only start making mental cash when you have a city job working 80+ hours a week (and I'll never understand why people do that, no matter what they're getting paid). Other than that, you'll get a couple grand more at best, which won't even cover the rent difference. Also depends how keen you are to aspire to the top end restaurants and members' clubs. I can see how the exclusivity appeals to a famous footballer, but they're the last places I'd wanna go, regardless of what I earn.

You don't really need to be making mental cash to enjoy it though, just a decent wage. Wages wise, I can only speak for my niche, but I know I'm getting a good 20% extra than my friends working the same job in other cities.

It does depend on what you want to do, but the quality tends to work its way down to pretty much everything. Standards just tend to be higher from what I've experienced. You don't need to be eating nordic small plates at a 3 starred restaurant to be enjoy the perks of dining in the capital. It's pretty hard to go anywhere within zone 1-3 and not be tripping over good places to eat at every price range, because the competition is just so ******* fierce. Even the neighbourhood restaurants raise their game to a level that you would never expect. The same can be said for lots of other areas outside of food too, it's just the area I personally find most interesting.

In Brazil? Really?

I honestly had them struggling to get out of the group. I had Spain winning that group (and retaining the WC. THAT went well for me :(), with Chile taking second spot.

Looked at the Dutch squad, a mix of a few ageing greats in probably their last tournament, and some very inexperienced youth still playing at home; and had them down as an early big name casualty from the groups along with England and maybe Portugal.

I guess after they licked Spain 5-1 and rolled through the group, folk just looked at the name and presumed they were the Netherlands of the past.

As tediously poor as they were in the knock-outs (felt REAL sorry for Costa Rica against them who deserved better); I agree it was a great achievement to take such an average squad to the semi's.

Yeah, few people did after the world cup was over saying how Netherlands were not bad team at all.

Their defense was average and it was great achievement that they had such a good defensive record.

Their CB was Vlaar, De Vrij, Indi with Blind playing as wing back and for RWB it was Janmaat and later it was Kuyt. Their GK is also as average as they come.

Yeah, the Dutch only had one good game in the World Cup, and that was vs. Spain. And even then it looked for long time like they're about to get butchered, until freak goal by RVP changed everything.

Looking at the German game the other night, I don't think anyone will want to pull Poland in their group next summer.

I don't for one minute think your a serious threat to win it, but you'll cause any team a lot of problems and would be one Nation you could do with avoiding.

Wish I could have been as optimistic, but we play typical Polish NT brand of football that I've been watching for last 25 years. Strong spine with solid backline and goalkeeper, trying to play agressive counterattacking style, without anyone who can actually launch counterattacking pass.

Our attacks are pure chaos factor, it looks more scary than it really is. Lewandowski is making the only difference.

If we could find a passer we would be really scary, but like in England, there's something ****** up with player development here. Passers is just not something we produce.

Last world class playmayker we had was Deyna in the 1970s. Ever since, we had nada.

You wouldn't put Boniek up there?

Boniek was more of an flashy inside forward, in today's terms.

Deyna was classic midfield general with almost Zidanish elegance. He dribbled with balance and clever movement, not pace and tricks.

(sorry for offtopic guys, but PL is on break anyway :) )

Yeah, not a 'play maker' in the classic midfield sense, but what a technically gifted player. His dribbling and creativity was special. The speed just topped it off.

If he'd of been more consistent .....

Np man, spamming in United thread shows that United is by far the biggest club in the world. SMH

English media is just pathetic. Telegraph has gone down so much from their high standards, they have gone down faster than cheap hooker. Only BBC has any credibility now.

Their click bait articles are nonsense and also it's so obvious the clowns like Ogden are so butthurt that they are not getting any leaks from the club.

He spoke to Madrid and felt their version is believable. lol.

It's cute to see their desperation though.

It's like 'STFU already will you please!'

It didn't happen. It won't happen this season. Nobody gives a flying f whomever was at fault. (Which everything points to it being your f-up but whatever.). Dragging everyone you can out to try save face is nauseating. Just let it go already!

STFU until the end of the season and concentrate on what you do have. Geez.

Exactly. If they kept their trap shut no one would have talked about it after a day or 2. Every week we are seeing new interviews from Madrid or La Liga.

They do think they have god given right for any player.

Januzaj just scored a goal for Dortmund in a friendly. He is playing well.

ED WOODWARD ELECTED TO ECA BOARD

Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has been elected to the new Executive Board of the European Club Association (ECA).

The ECA, an independent body which represents and promotes the interests of 220 European football clubs, made the announcement on Tuesday at its general assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been re-appointed as ECA chairman, while Woodward joins former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, now a director at Ajax, among the 11 men elected as members of the board.

Rummenigge said: "ECA's achievements since its inception in 2008 are remarkable and make all of us very proud. We are a well-respected association and are taken seriously at all levels.

"With the support of all member clubs, the newly elected Executive Board will face the upcoming challenges with a lot of commitment to ensure that the clubs’ voice continues to be heard.”
