The Manchester United Thread

That's why I have so much respect for someone like Neville over Keane. Doesn't just sit in a studio ranting his mouth off. He is willing to dive in and put his money where his mouth is. I have a feeling he is going to do very well at Valencia. Approaching the job with the right attitude and at the right time

Another point of interest for Utd fans the Europa.

Dependent on tomorrow nights results, Valencia and the Neville's may well be dropping down into the competition.

Also personally from experience, I was mad as well when we dropped into Europa under RDM. But Benitez took it seriously and at the end of the day, it was another trophy and we saw some good games against good sides especially in the knockouts. Fans should take it seriously

Benitez won it with a completely unbalanced and small Chelsea squad which he took over mid-season alongside getting us to a respectable third with a punishing schedule. Absolutely no excuse for LVG not to at least give it a proper go considering how much he has spent

I really hope Neville succeeds. Would be very pleasing to see an English manager succeed abroad. And a decent bloke at that!

Can't speak for anyone else, but my view of whether he should stay or not, will partly rest on out he views this comp

You can't help feeling sorry for LVG sometimes. He lays the foundation for these fantastic teams at Bayern, Barcelona and perhaps even United but he is packed off before the team truly hits their peak allowing the next manager to collect the subsequent trophies

sometimes he doesn't help himself though. Foundations will undoubtedly be stronger, but he should let the team play.

The very same Roy 'bursting with passion' Keane who jumped ship from Aston Villa at the first sign of trouble. Better off sticking to punditry. Talk is cheap but proper work isn't

****** **** do you have a Keane alert.

Same problem that afflicts Mourinho. When results go bad, both of them retreat into a shell and try and sort out the defense first. Which is sound logic as a clean sheet guarentee's you a point every time but it simply doesn't work for every squad. They need to move in the other direction now and let the handbrake off

Sure we might see the odd 5-3 result here and there but in the long run with the way the squad at Chelsea and United is built, we will see good results and some **** entertaining matches to boot

Honestly never personally felt the hatred toward him he naturally received from us. I always appreciated the fact that he was honest enough to openly say 'I'm a Manchester lad, staunch United fan and I hate Liverpool more than anyone.' Which is fair enough as it's reciprocated and just is what it is up here. I know players have to have a responsibility and all to what they can and can't say, but you can really respect someone that doesn't B/S and just tells it like it is.

Aye and he seems like a good bloke as well when you see his banter with Carragher. Sharp tactical brain and an ability to distill ideas in a simplified manner that players can understand. Hope he does well genuinely. Perhaps it might provoke a few more of the armchair punits to try out management before shouting their head off

I have a real good friend who was a staunch defender of Rodgers right through, but even he lost it with him out in Bordeaux the first game this year when yet again there were kids coming off the bench we'd never even heard of. And that's after the ***** he put out to start the game. He just never learned.

Some people just don't understand/ appreciate how important Europe is to L'pool and United and how both clubs have been built on it.

Aye, though in fairness to LVG, the kids by and large have been very good. Varela excellent tonight tbf

It's not like he never wins trophies though, and it's not like his ego needs feeding by the subsequent trophies. :P

As I said, I feel history will look very kindly on him.

Makes you wonder if it wasn't a better idea to give him a job as Director of Football or something than being headcoach. He has great ideas for youth development and does see real talent in (youth) players etc.

Stolen and make of it what you will.

Played 21 league games.
Scored 23 league goals.
Juan Mata top scorer with 5 goals, no one else has scored more than 3.

The lowest amount is 22 goals. Shared by Newcastle, West Brom and Swansea City.

23 is same number of goals scored by Aston Villa and Sunderland (lel)

Van gaal is clueless

Lies. Everybody hated Gary Neville when he was a player. Dude was a gigantic ****. His whining at the refs would make Busquets go "dude, that's too far".

As if we can hurt any team even if we take seriously :P

I agree though, Europa is a good platform to give players few chances. Confidence is very important in football, so playing who are off form might be useful. It's a good competition to mix young players with few senior players and still have a go at winning it.

Saying that I'm 100% sure Van Gaal will throw it away.
