The Manchester United Thread

He got the taste of the first team, and proved he can take the challenge. IF, I repeat, IF Zlatan would somehow end up with you, he (Rashford) will warm the bench for sure, or end up being loaned somewhere. Just take a look at Chelsea's prospects: lots of promise, no chance to impress. You might say that United's philosophy is different, and I agree, but Mourinho's is also different. If the board pressures him to get back into the CL, youth don't stand a chance.

This text is based on minimal football knowledge and speculation, and it should be treated likewise.
I should make this my signature.

Getting the taste doesn't mean anything though. at that age you will dip in and out of the first team at a side like United. If anyone is currently under threat it's going to be Rooney.

There is a massive difference between Chelsea's youth and United's. That's not a managerial thing, they are treated like a commodity. They are never integrated into the side. With ours, even with new signings they are all a necessity.

Mourinho is no fool, United isn't Chelsea, you can't survive without trying to bring youth through. Even Moyes with all his folly knew that.

May be on my own here but I would question why the **** we would want a near 35 year old player if we signed him? Very short-term vision and in my opinion utterly pointless, it will cause more harm than good. Player like him strolls in with his ego and the ABSURD amount of money he will be on, straight into the starting line up. No thanks.

We need to have a bit more of a longevity with our signings and last thing I want is team spirit broken up, we've built some good foundations here and that will be ruined if you don't bring the right players in.

Well well well, it turns out that when you play players in their proper positions and give them some freedom you play decently. Fancy that!

And he's claiming credit for Southampton beating L'pool too! Mans a genius!

Ferguson did it with Larsson. He was brilliant cover. Zlatan has hardly broken team spirit. And we haven't had too much to break anyway. Is there nothing that doesn't upset you?

Besides it's largely moot. Mourinho wants Kane by all accounts anyway.

Siging Zlatan would be ridiculous though. For what purpose? Helping us get one good season with him as an automatic starter negating the likes of Rashford, Rooney or whoever else he will be at the expense of.

There is no real sense to this signing whatsoever and for me it just shouts out "LOOK AT US WE CAN SIGN A BIG WORLD CLASS PLAYER FOR THE SAKE OF IT" move by Woodward.

Harry Kane, again not a striker I'm particularly sold on (especially for the fee we would pay) but I would definitely choose him over Zlatan, better mentality, would only expect to play if performing well and respects the club enough to not whinge if things are not going his way.

He wouldnt be an automatic starter, but like Larsson would be a brilliant one season finsher, as we have lots of youth, and buys another year to sort out what we do with Rooney. You've been moaning all season we are short a forward, so when we are linked with one, you get annoyed. He'd be on a free, he can finish from just about anywhere, bring people in from anywhere, and has a confidence and arrogance this team lacks and needs. You can't have it both ways, you either in increase competition and quality, or you dont. Make up your mind, because any forward coming is going to battle with Rashford/Rooney etc.

We don't need people being nice and cosy, we need an edge back.

You're not sold on Zlatan, or Kane, despite the fact he is a mobile hard working link forward who scores hatfuls, and is young. I suspect you're not going to be happy for a long time as a United fan, no matter what we do.

Who exactly do you want up front?

But he's free. Geez, never seen a guy get worked up on free stuff before.

Zlatan leads from the front, he would force others to up their game out of worrying he will berate them haha. Agree completely with what you said.

I'd love him back at Milan but would also like to see him in the premier league.

How anyone could moan about a 20+ goal per season, 10+ assist per season player on a free baffles me.

He's a leader, he's a winner, you would only be paying wages and he's better than any other striker at the club

I said not sold on him for the price we would pay, which would be £50m... give or take, maybe even more in this market. You can't tell me that you think he's the real deal after two seasons for that price either.

When you say 'he is free' there is a reason for this, he is past it, he is in a French league which can be deceiving as to whether they actually are good or the opponent is utter *****. (Obviously we got Martial from the French league so you know, but we also got Falcao).

Also I'm sorry but a striker like him coming in with have a definite mental effect on everyone in that squad, he has the ego size of an ocean and he will have wages which will be absurd. Him and Rooney's wages in the same squad together would be sickening alone.

I just don't get this signing and wonder why we would ever consider bringing him in at this age unless we are abandoning any of the things we have seen this season to go back in the hunt for instant success.

Reus, Aubemayang, Griezzmann, list goes on and on. These are signings that would not only come in and make an instant impact, but would also have longevity in them as well. Also they offer something totally different to the likes of Rooney for example.

If you think we'll get back to anywhere of old with players like Zlatan and Jose working together you're wrong, it will only work when things are going well, hit a patch like we have had this season and watch things implode. Zlatan won't give a **** if things don't go well, huge money and knows people don't expect him to be at his best at that age.

Who are you kidding? If Zlatan comes in he is an instant starter with them wages and his reputation (he won't join any club without them assurances). Or else why the **** have him for one season? Or two at the very maximum.

Also how the **** do him and Rooney even fit in a side together.

Past it?? 36 goals and 14 assists in 39 games.

But you will say that's easy in that league yet the next closest is Lacazzette on 14 goals...

Ibra in champions league, 8 apps, 4 goals, 3 assists.

For Sweden in 2015 he scored 11 in 10.

How the **** is he past it?

A crocked Falcao is irrelevant.

"he is in a French league which can be deceiving as to whether they actually are good" - hes been a beast for over 10 years in every league.....

You just quoted 3 forwards who will go for the same price as Kane, and only one of the is an outright CF. Reus operates from Martials position, and Griezmann between the two.

Falcao had good stats in the French league, even after the ACL, like 6 goals in 8 games I'm sure it was in the last few months at the end of that season before he joined us.

But anyway, everything about this signing I just don't like, stats may be great in a team which is far superior to anything else in a mediocre French league but for me I just don't understand this signing.

Like I say, PL will be a whole new challenge for Zlatan, physically nothing else compares and if things don't go well he will start moaning. His ego in that dressing room scares me, when you have such composed and level headed young players it could have a detrimental effect.

Having players with an edge to them and that fight to win is one thing, but Zlatan is another.

Hope for your sake if Ibrahimovic is signed he doesn't go the same way as your last 'experienced' signing .....

Presume your, uhmmm, 'tubby' German has discovered the delights of Manchester chop houses his time out? Man has he been eating well haha.

We talk about egos. Anyone remember the players of 2006-2009? Our front three was ego city in Rooney/Ronaldo/Tevez

No it's what happens when you are a high running player and you can't work out for weeks. Will disappear after a few weeks of being back in training
