The Manchester United Thread

Just watched the match again. God 3-2 really did flatter us they could have easily had about 5-6 against us.
We literally created 2 chances and scored from them.

The first goals came out of no where...with a bit of individual brilliance from mata. 2nd one was individual brilliance from martial(although I thought it was a cross)

Yeah lol. Our goals scored this season is woeful and chances created. I think West Ham had about 30 against us, we have just about created that all season.

Report after an interview with Mourinho yesterday after he managed a legends game-

[h=3]Maradona10Hopes United lose every game till LVG is sacked[/h]

    Full quotes -
has reiterated he will be in a new job next season, with Louis van Gaal's role as Manchester Unitedmanager under serious threat after Tuesday night's Premier League defeat at West Ham.

United must beat Bournemouth and hope City lose at Swansea on Sunday if they are to finish in the top four and secure a Champions League qualifying spot, which Van Gaal's future is understood to depend on.

The 3-2 defeat at the Boleyn Ground was good news for Mourinho, who is desperate to become United manager, and the Portuguese briefly spoke about his situation in Mexico, where he was managing a Fifa legends team.

According to the Mail , Mourinho discovered the United result when he checked into his hotel and was asked whether it would affect his own future.

"There is plenty of time," Mourinho told reporters.

Mourinho then gave a coyer response to AP.

"I don't know. I know nothing about it really," Mourinho added. "I don't have a club and I was waiting for these guys (the FIFA Legends) to win the match to give me a hand but because I lost the match it's even more difficult to get the club."

Mourinho also said 'in July I will be back' but admitted his start date at whichever club he takes over will be 'difficult', since the pre-season schedule will not be tailored to his preferences.
It's difficult because when you get a new club in this period normally the clubs they did already their work," Mourinho admitted. "I give you an example. I'm not the Chelsea manager but I organized the Chelsea pre-season in many aspects because I did that 10 months ago.

"Clubs have their commercial, marketing departments always involved in everything. When a new manager arrives in May, June it's very difficult to touch in some points but we know that."

United face Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22 and then take on Pep Guardiola's City on July 25 in Beijing during an eight-day tour of China and are expected to host an Old Trafford friendly in August.
Should Van Gaal guide United to an FA Cup win over Crystal Palace next week, they would also face Leicester in the annual Community Shield curtain-raiser.

"Scouting is done during the year," Mourinho said. "It's not even a competition like the Euros where you are going to find by miracle some new talents. We know everybody, so it's just a question of trying to choose the players that your team needs because the scouting, with our structures, we do it for many, many players."
Things that come out of it-
    • Reports that LVG would stay as he was heavily involved in united's pre season planning are not correct.
    • Scouting is done even if he is out of job.

Its doin the rounds up in Manchester, not sure if the papers are on it, nationally yet, but they will be

The strong rumour down the road here is either he or Rafa. Which would be beyond hilarious.

I'd pay GOOD money to see the full blown, epic meltdown from Blues if Benitez got the job.

I'll never get the obsession English football has about managers going to rival clubs.

The biggest rivalries in Polish top league is between Legia, Wisła and Lech. Two of currently active managers managed all three clubs, and one active manager managed two of them. No one gives a ****.

Or look at Italy. Capello managed Roma, Milan and Juventus. No one gives a ****. Trappatoni managed Inter, Milan and Juve. No one gives a ****. Goran-Erikson actually managed both Roma and Lazio, for god's sake.

Seriously. Managers aren't players, there aren't that many hot positions available. They have to go where the jobs are. ****, since we're talking about Rafa. Madrid have been chasing him ever sincse his Liverpool days, but things only alligned for him to join last summer.

Agree. Funny story about Italy, my mate was on the stands when Capello took over Juventus from Roma in 2004. Fans were so mad they were waving with crucifixes - with Capello's name written on them. :D

A job is a job mate. I'd work at United if they gave better money(+ travel costs) than I currently get.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton admits the club has been delighted with the loan spell of Manchester United's James Wilson.

The 20-year-old striker arrived at the Amex Stadium from Old Trafford in November and has since scored five goals in 25 Championship appearances for the Premier League promotion hopefuls.

Making the move from simply training with the United first team to being more heavily involved at Brighton has helped bring out the best in Wilson and according to Hughton, the experience will only benefit the talented forward.

"Yes, we've been delighted with him," Hughton told Tribalfootball.com.

"I think the transition from being at Manchester United and predominantly on the fringes of the first team, training with the first team most days, then to come into the Championship which is completely different.

"It's about the intensity day-to-day and certainly the games and I think he's adapted well.

"It's never easy and it's not been over-easy in his period here but he has adapted well.

"We are very confident that he would have gained great experience from his time here and he will go back to United a better player."

Wilson scored his first Seagulls goal in a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Charlton Athletic in December, and has subsequently netted in two draws with play-off counterparts Derby County(who meet Hull City), as well as providing winners against Huddersfield Town and Reading.

That's 14 points his goals have helped Brighton amass and there is no hesitation in Hughton's mind that his time on the south coast has been a success despite the fact he has started on only 11 occasions.

"It's his goals as well as his contribution," he added of the England U21 international who will remain with Albion until the end of May.

"What we have had here at times, we've had a settled two in (Tomer) Hemed and (Sam) Baldock from earlier in the season, hence the reason why James hasn't played or started as consistently as he would have liked.

"When you look at the five goals he has scored, and important goals, I think his contribution has been excellent.

"Certainly I think if he would have started more games, the fact he is a natural goalscorer, there's no doubt he is a talent and I think he would have got us more goals.

"But I think we've got that nice balance with him between starting and coming off the bench and having an impact.

"Overall, we have been delighted with his impact."

Brighton, Wilson and Hughton are preparing for Friday night's play-off semi-final first leg against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough having missed out on automatic promotion to the top flight by drawing 1-1 with second-placed Middlesbrough on the weekend.

The second leg takes place at the Amex on Monday night.

Daily mail reporting that we've advertised for a "scouting auditor" as part of our academy / scouting revamp. Odd part of it all is the person won't actually watch any footage of the players being scouted, but more act as an auditor and come to a decision based on reports.

I can see the theory behind this - if you recall we recently signed Bebe based on a video. However surely there must be some form of watching the player in order to make a full assessment of someone.

Full article as follows:

  • Manchester United have advertised for a 'scouting auditor'
  • Despite the scout title, the position would not involve watching any football
  • The auditor would collate scouting reports and act as quality control
  • It is part of a behind-the-scenes shake-up led by vice-chairman Ed Woodward
  • Up to 40 appointments could be made to boost United's scouting department

Manchester United’s root-and-branch recruitment review will see one of their top jobs go to a scout who doesn’t physically watch football.

The unusual post - advertised as a ‘scouting auditor’ - is hoped to offer a fresh perspective to their floundering system.

Thinking behind the role is that it will evolve into one of the senior positions at Old Trafford and act as a form of quality control when identifying transfer targets.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is looking to expand the department to arrest problems United have endured since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

It is understood the new scouting auditor will not be expected to watch any matches themselves, not taking in any players personally.

They will, however, have the final scouting decision on who United should splash the cash on by collating various reports filed by other scouts.

Scores and notes from those in the field will be traded off against each other before the auditor - who must resist the temptation to watch any footage - takes an informed decision in discussions with Woodward and the manager.

Woodward is set to make up to 40 fresh appointments across the department in a bid to strengthen their hand in picking up talent.

There are advertisements out for senior scouts across Europe and in Asia as United continue the huge revamp.

Manchester United look set to miss out on Champions League football after a disappointing campaign

Dutchman Henny de Regt has already been brought in to work with head of youth recruitment Derek Langley, while chief scout Jim Lawlor has been given admin support so he can concentrate fully on finding players.

United want to keep a greatly expanded scouting system in place whoever replaces current manager Louis van Gaal, so avoiding David Moyes' predicament of finding there was no accessible database of potential players when he took over from Ferguson.
