The Manchester United Thread

It's not just the games it's the training. They'll be starting a good ways behind everyone else.

I'm LOVING reading that if I'm Bournemouth.
thing is its not like you or me having a hol where its all you can eat and drink these lot will be looking after themselfs a lot better unless its roo

Naturally. But it's still the most important time of the year where you lay the ground work and build everything up for the long 9 months ahead. And not least when you've a new manager trying to lay his ideas down.

Honestly never heard of a two and a bit week pre-season.

Not that it matters to anyone in here, but it sure give's me a nice boost to see a competitor adopting that approach.

You'd think, but somehow half of Chelsea squad turned up overweight last year.

Not when they are already match fit. Pre season is about regaining fitness, or recovery. Over training is just as bad as under training, they will be back in after China

You're not 'match fit' with a 3/4 week or more break.

But hey, that's the way Jose wants to do it and he has the CV so it obviously works for him.

You're not fit for the season if you go straight in without taking a break either. Taking 3 weeks, will actually keep their bodies in far better shape. Pre season doesnt get you match ready, it just gets you back to a state of fitness, you dont get match sharpness from that

Never said you did. You mentioned them being already match fit. Just answering that.

I don't agree with the approach but it's not my club so good luck to you.

Anyway, pre-season related, I wanted to say, as my minds just been jogged by a mention of Zouma in the Chelsea thread, it's great to see Luke Shaw back in action. We were in a Premier Inn at East Midlands before an early morning flight to Bordeaux when that happened and everyone was wincing watching it on the screen. Hate to see any player injured and that one was a horror injury. It's great to see him back doing his job.

Look at the breaks your own players have had. It's exactly what Klopp does.

Players physically need the time off or you suffer muscle fatigue and damage.

Oh, there's a Dutch fella that would love yer.

He's slammed Klopp and Conte's approach just this week. I'll dig out his twitter rant.

Not sure where this has developed into not needing a break like. It was the duration of the break but it's just a differing opinion.

*Edit* Likes a bit of controversy this guy. The Welsh just love him!

He's slammed everyone's approach, Pep, LVG, Mou, Moyes. Most mangers will give players about 3/4 weeks off. Becomes more important after longer seasons like euros

Never get any argument from me about a 3/4 week break. That's about exactly what players should have.

Which is what the extended holidays are for, hence certain players missing tour

Sweden went out the 22nd of June. Tomorrow that's 4 weeks to the day since Ibrahimovic last trained/ played. He's back after you return home that'll be what. 6 weeks? Starting on the back foot.

Wenger has Arenal's Welsh and French players returning a WEEK before the season starts. The same what was posted in here about Poigba. That's a month and mores break. Which to me is crazy with the season starting a week later. I'd give them 3 weeks.

And it's not just the fitness side. You're trying to assimilate new players with not much training ground time. And a new manager with new ideas in your case. Crazy situation to me but we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Zlatan is an obvious exception because he is 35. You'll be amazed how many veteran players don't do pre season. He's back in for Gala and the Charity Shield

Pogba is off for another week, and wouldnt have made our tour anyway, or Juve's for that matter

Zlatan the only new signing not on tour.

Wenger has given his players 3 weeks off as usual.
