The Manchester United Thread

Was the first thing I noticed. So composed on the ball. LVG would kill for Blind-Baily backline pairing, so much possibilities for endless passing.

Honestly not clear where Smalling comes in right now

Yeah, but it's a good problem to have.

Everyone needs to earn their spot. Same needs to happen to Rooney now.

I think he will be phased out,but carefully as he has such a presence in the squad.

Having players like Zlatan and Pogba make it easier, because no one doubts their global quality

To be fair, for a big man, Smalling distributes the ball pretty well too.

I think that Rooney will be buttered up as it were by also given a role to mentor the youngsters which will help his ego.

Yo defo think we will see Rooney phased out this season and getting subbed more and more often.
United have the same problem Liverpool had with Gerrard. Basically trying to shoehorn him into the side which ends up being detrimental to the team. The big question is will Mourinho drop him or not because when all your new signing are fit then surely Rooney has to be dropped.

I don't think Mou is stupid enough to drop him straight from the off. But if he plays bad he will defo have the balls to for sure. Will faze him out imo. Leave him out the cups and Europa. Think we will start seeing him subbed around the 70 min mark in games he does start.

Defiantly should of gone after '13/14. He was neither use nor ornament that last season.

He comes in the replace blind. I still maintain the opinion that blind isn't good enough for the first team BUT he's a more capable backup CB. I trust him a **** lot more than Jones and Rojo.

As smalling comes in, he's replacing blind.

im not sure tbh. Especially how good he's been playing. And after Mourinho said Blind is the perfect partner for Bailly to play and learn from. People keep saying Blind isn't good enough he was fantastic last season, barely had a bad game or made any mistakes. And has been fantastic this season. Smalling would have to sit it out for now.

I agree, but I always thought that Mourinho should have gone for a sleeker, less aggressive defender to complement Smalling, like a Rugani or Varane, but I trust him to do the right thing. We all should, it's the least we can do, stop doubting the manager and get behind the team

.... get behind the team

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, this always amuses me when it's said on an internet message board.

How do you do that unless you actually go the game? What's written here, good or bad, is just fans chewing the fat between themselves and won't register at any of their respective clubs or with any of the individuals they're talking about.

This is very true unfortunately.

I don't think it is, in the modern game there is plenty of ways to support a club other than simply going to a match.

Our global fanbase is the reason why we're one of the biggest clubs in the world and commercially making so much money.

You completely misunderstood the point I was responding to/ the point he was making.

He was on about fully trusting the manager and getting behind the team. Which in sentiment I'm 100% behind, but it matters little on a message board if people critic what a manager does./ say something negative about the team whatever. The only way you can 'get behind the team' in that sense is to be at the match surely? What's said on here, good or bad, has absolutely zero effect on them.

It was obvious that was the case, can't believe some mates of mine were convinced he'd just be thrown right in for 90 minutes saying "he does kickboxing, he keeps fit in his spare time" etc. Nothing matches being out there on the pitch, doesn't matter if you train from now to Christmas, you need to gradually regain your sharpness.

He'd have played 90, had he not been suspended, but he doesn't need to anyway. Use the depth

He wouldn't have played 90 against Bournemouth, even if he wasn't suspended. Regardless of when he makes his debut, undergoing a summer international tournament after a long season with Juve (little bit of fatigue) on top of a subsequent holiday with 0 pre-season minutes would always warrant time. As Mourinho said; "some people think that he arrives here now and, the first time he touches the ball, he scores", we'll be lucky to see him get an hour on Friday and we would've been lucky to see him get an hour against Bournemouth had he of been available, in a few weeks he'll be starting/completing games and returning to his best.
