The Manchester United Thread

Lukaku has undoubtedly been good overall so far, however I think he has been overlooked in the big games. Without him against Spurs we wouldn't of won, to setup Martial's goal and get us a vital 3 points. He can't be judged against Liverpool really despite his one chance in that game, he had very little or next to no service. Lukaku has exceeded my expectations. He just has to keep it going and keep improving. He himself rightly said that he isn't the finished article and it's good when a player themselves acknowledges that. It shows they have the right mentality.

Particularly enjoy the way he starts deep, lays off the ball and then moves forward. Or drifts our wide to isolate a player. Even when he's not scoring, he's helping the side. He's never going to be a great passer, but he has excellent movement and good link up play.

Opposing fans love a bit of doom and gloom when it comes to United.
This paragraph says it all, and is the main reason why they are clutching at straws.

United have scored more goals -- 23 -- in the Premier League than Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal and conceded fewer -- four -- than anyone else. They have not conceded a league goal at Old Trafford since April and the win over Benfica was their 37th consecutive home game without defeat, a run stretching back to September 2016. Only once have United enjoyed a longer run in the Premier League era.

My favourite is his little half turn and insane burst into space. Nobody can touch him when he does this (should look to do it more often). He can single-handedly advance us 30-40 yards up the pitch. His pace is so underrated.

But as you shared a while back, it'll rarely get described as "lightening quick" or "electric pace", the buzzwords tend to be "powerful strides" or something along those lines from our friendly Match of The Day 'experts' or journalists.

That or Jones in a man-marking role (Hazard) like the FA Cup last season

Looks like we need to win this just to keep on the coat tails of City. Definitely don't lose.

Forget City z. Nobody's playing to catch them.

Calm down we're only 10/11 games in. I remember City starting last PL season 10 games winning on the bounce.

They have looked very suspect when Arsenal have actually attacked them and they do leak goals, which hasn't been enough and have been unfortunate in a sense with 2 of City's goals. One being offside and the other a very soft penalty.

Sure that's clutching a bit, but I'm still yet to be convinced you can win a title by scoring your way to it, maybe this season is the one but for me they are shaky at the back. No one attacks them to ever really test, so I guess it doesn't matter much at the moment.

But City players can't keep this intensity up for the whole season in all the major comps, so the defence will inevitably be tested more as season goes on.

This City side is a **** of a lot stronger than last year.

Nobody else is to that degree. Right from the summer I always thought 5 clubs where realistically been playing for 2 through 4.

Personally seen nottin' to change that.

Yeh but that defence isn't imo, the fullbacks are more effective especially attacking sense. But if you get at them they are suspect, Walker and Delph as fullbacks are good going one way, not so good the other. Luckily for them it doesn't matter much at the moment as no one can attack them much anyway.

Agreed they seem a different animal this season, but Zz's point about games eventually catching up on that questionable backline are fair.

Every team hits a bad patch, it's about how much room for error they stretch between ourselves & them before they hit it.

Yeh even 7/8 points seems quite a lot at this stage, would be great if we won today but I'm not seeing it unfortunately.

We won the 1st 6 on the bounce, got leathered by Spurs in game 7, and then won 3 of the next 8, last PL season.

We had 24 points at this stage. (Christ checking this info, we only kept 4 clean sheets before new year...gash)
