The Manchester United Thread

Only July 26, 2012, consistent with our strategy to grow our global sponsorship revenue, we entered into an agreement with General Motors for Chevrolet to become our exclusive shirt sponsor, beginning in our 2014/15 season. The term of the agreement runs through the end of the 2020/21 season. Annual revenue from our new shirt sponsorship agreement will be $70.0 million in the first season, and will increase by an additional 2.1% in each season thereafter through the term of the agreement. We will also receive approximately $18.6 million in fees in each of the 2012/13 season and 2013/14 season under the terms of our new shirt sponsorship agreement. Total revenue payable through the end of the 2020/21 season under our new shirt sponsorship agreement is approximately $559 million.

357 Million pounds in 7 years, around 51million pounds sponsorship deal. Great deal, but you never know what the sponsorship rate in 7 years time, but going by today's market it is a great deal. Barcelona are getting €30 million a season for their deal. This one with Chevrolet starts off at €64 million and finishes at €74 million per season.

If they can clear the debt, Glazers will be the best owners but they have already sucked so much money out of the club it is hard to like them.

But our commercial growth since their take over is just superb. Someone on redcafe compared the last 5 years before the take over and 5 years after the take over, commercial growth was stagnated before the take over at around 40Million, now it has reached over 100Million.

With increased TV rights, new sponsors we will be up there with the best, that too without individual TV rights.

(all this counts for nothing if they don't provide funds to improve team and facilities)

Not worth praising the Glazers over the commercial growth, they've done well, but it's only what you expect from multi millionaire businessmen, whoever they are.

10 Million for the logo on training kit is worth praising any business man. I dont like them but credit where it is due, commercial growth has been very good since the take over.

Anyone has the records for the commercial growth of Liverpool after G&H takeover?

Lets be honest... With Manchester United's readymade global fan base, club infrastructure, success every year and presence around the globe you don't really have to be a amazing businessman to rake in those sort of sponsorship deals.

You shouldn't compare yourselves to Liverpool. You should compare yourselves with the only other clubs of your stature Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Commercial growth doesn't mean anything, unless your winning trophies (look at Arsenal).

and our commercial growth was around 40M for 5 years. There was no growth at all.

Not saying they are great owners but they have got good ability to improve the revenue and that 10M for training kit was just very good example.

Your going off on a different tangent tbh

Its unfair to compare Manchester United with Real Madrid or Barcelona. Reason being that those Spanish Clubs are allowed to negotiate their own tv deals which causes a huge discrepancy between the revenues of Man Utd and Real Madrid/Barcelona. For arguments sake if you want to compare them minus those TV Deals then Man Utd are the biggest club in the world without a doubt

As for winning trophies, I think a good example is Chelsea. We win trophies every season but we experience nowhere near the amount of commercial growth Manchester United and Liverpool do simply because we do not have a huge globa fan-base like they do. In the EPL, Liverpool are the only club who can claim they match Man Utd in terms of global fan-base around the world with Arsenal being a close third. Therefore, it is fair to compare them although its evident Liverpool's lack of success the last 4-5 seasons has hurt them in the commercial market. Still they are better off than most including Chelsea

Its a fair deal especially since 'one in ten people' ;) in every country you visit are going to come and watch Man Utd when they have open training

Meh that's for another debate, I said only about commercial growth.

And commercial growth doesn't mean anything when it isn't being translated to profit, and interest is eating away everything we make.

Not comparing the way you are thinking, Liverpool are a (big) global brand and a big business man took over them, so was curious to know how their commercial growth was before and after take over. Nothing else other than that.

That's what I said in my first post

Lol, it was ridiculous deal. 10 Million for training tops. Will have to agree to disagree if you think that is fair deal. At max we go preseason tour for one month and have 5-6 open training sessions.

I was being sarcastic haha... It is over-valued but meh

No, they won't be the best owners. If they were such Gods of the business world they wouldn't be a billion in the red, they wouldn't need to be bleeding the club dry and they wouldn't be in a desperate, overvalued IPO offering little ROI to gain cash. There are businesses all over the world achieving growth commercially AND in profit, they're nothing special, they have one of the best brands in the world under their control. It'd be like them taking over Apple and being shocked when they suddenly bring in a **** ton of money when they release an iPhone 5.

I clearly said IF they clear the debt.

They are barely attempting, which is why half the IPO proceeds would to go to them rather than against the debt. Also Uniteds transfer budget from next year onwards is being set at 25m net spend per year. So we are not even benefitting.
