The Manchester United Thread

Well, if the most valuable team in the world can't buy at least 3 top players to raise the squad to the next level, we can throw the towel right now. We won't be able to compete against the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool for some time. Not even to mention UCL.

We don't need any more rotation player/promising youth. That we got plenty. We need starters. We need to raise our level.

If we paid £75 mi for Lukaku, why the **** can't we spend that money in a actual world class player?
75m won’t get you WC these days. People want Koulibaly there’s 100m+ straightaway. People talk about Neves well your looking at Lukaku money right there most definitely more. Add a top class FB and RW what people think we need. Well your looking at 50m+ for a FB not even WC! Then for a top draw attacker your looking at shelling out 100-140m plus again. That’s not even inc agents fees, signing on fees, bonuses, wages. I’m sure fans are getting more deluded each summer!

Look at the likes of Pool, Barca, Juve, Bayern. There going the way of signing to potential as of late to start there rebuilds. It’s simply not possible for clubs to go out and buy 4 WC players in one window anymore. If the coaching is right the age doesn’t matter!

You mention Lukaku. If he had stayed banging in goals at Everton. There’s absolutely no chance we would get him close to 75m in today’s market especially not with there new owners. And he’s not even deemed WC!

Like Scouse said there good players out there just need to be smart in the market hence the restructuring being key for me in recruitment.

I don’t think they’ll be nearly as many £100 million plus transfers as people seem to think going forward.

They still remain the absolute exception even with the bigger influx of TV money.

Im not so sure mate. Hope your right but when you got clubs like Ajax charging 70+ for the likes of De Jong and De Ligt it’s ****** mental!

It is but that’s more the norm the top end as it’s levelled out.

Lot of top quality to be had £30/40/50 million or so. Even less if your evaluation is right to get exactly the right player that fits everything you do/ require.

The next bracket of £60/70/80/90 million is your top end.

How many £100 plus million transfers has there been? 2/3? And 2 of those were to a club not playing within FFP rules and backed by a whole state.

You’ll still get clubs that will go super nuts for exceptional talents. Not least attackers. But its just not viable, or indeed workable under FFP for that to become the norm.

If we have any sniff of Pochettino then that's surely the way we have got to go right now, the guy is a ****** genius with that squad and no investment look what they're doing. Not only developing, winning but he has a winning mentality instilled in them so much so that even with injuries they keep on churning out results. It's like a machine.

Ed Woodward: "The appointment of Ole + Mike as caretaker manager + assistant manager, working with Kieran, Michael + Emilio, has had positive impact throughout club. We're delighted with improvement in the performances since Dec + look forward to strong finish to the season"

In @ManUtd results small print. "Exceptional items for the quarter were £19.6 million, relating to compensation to the former manager and certain members of the coaching staff for loss office”

.@ManUtd managing director Richard Arnold says club has "number one downloaded football app". Says he is "excited about the roadmap for the app".

Richard Arnold reveals @ManUtd will play three games in International Champions Cup this summer after the two matches already confirmed in Perth, inc Leeds Utd.

Ed Woodward: "OGS fantastic start reviving performance of team. Tuesday wasn’t result we wanted. As OGS said we want to be competing at the highest level."

Richard Arnold says @ManUtd limited edition Newton Heath shoe sold out.

Dignified words from Ed Woodward: "Passing of Eric Harrison is especially poignant. He was the embodiment of the club’s commitment to youth. His legacy lives on."

Ed Woodward: "It’s going to be an eventful few months"

Revenue went up 17/% and wages went up 12% and will go up further with more contract renewals coming. 37.3% on wages proportional to turnover.

Tax ax bill has dropped from 57.5m to 10.9m due to Donald Trumps tax reform on the stock exchange.

Ed Woodward, asked about new manager: "Not going to get into the manager. Communicated in December Ole was coming in and what was happening. We won’t give updates part way through."

Woodward was just asked in the conference call about the DoF and he seemed to do his very best not to give a straight answer. Makes me think we won’t get an announcement anytime soon. He said that the club have been making continual changes over the last 5 or so years and that the fruits of this labour have been and will be showing over the coming years as these changes aren’t easy to see from the outside. He pointed to the academy now churning out better players as a reward on the increased investment into it over the last few years.

Also said he’s very confident the rest of the renewals will be done before may.

Sanchez was preparing to come on for Lingard, who had strained his left hamstring towards the end of the first half in the 2-0 Champions League defeat. However, the United substitute became distracted by the match action as he jogged along the touchline and ran straight into Italian linesman Fabiano Preti.
The collision floored Sanchez who recovered sufficiently to replace Lingard moments before half-time, but he informed United's coaching staff that he had suffered a leg injury above the knee.

Woodward can spout whatever he likes but at the end of the day if we don't have that DoF in the summer then serious questions need to be answered.

I agree with you that we have to be smart in the market. Our transfer windows have been bad since before Fergie retired. But some signings are essential. We´re talking about a experienced CB since Ferdinand and Vidic left, and that was 4 years ago. We haven't had a reliable FB since Evra left. Since then, we signed Bailly, Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Darmian, Rojo. We don't need a top CB every transfer window. If we buy the right one, we don't sign another in the following seasons.

Also, Van Dijk cost £75 million. Milan bought Bonucci for €42 million. Inter will sign Godín on a free.Inter had already signed de Vrij on a free. Inter signed Miranda in 2016 for €9 million. Hummels went to Bayern on a free. All of that while we were still pairing Smalling and Jones in the back.

Its ****** weird lol how Italian clubs trade so cheap with each other. In other news a few of our new signings have gone on training camp with the u16s.

Paul Pogba thumped his locker repeatedly before saying sorry to team-mates after his Champions League red card.

Awww... Diddums??
Gobshite.

Even if he did good on him I say, showing a bit of passion what on earth wrong with that. He didn't have a good game but that wasn't his fault really because the whole team was not very good.

Anyone hear that story about Sanchez getting injured by running into the linesman in his warm up before second half when he came on? You couldn't make it up.

First time Pogba disappeared after Mou sack. And in a big game. When United needed him the most. And the got himself sent off. Hmm.
United needs plan B in case Pogba does this again (and he will).

Think this is bollocks tbh. Didn’t disappear at all. He was the only one trying to make anything happen and was man marked out the game by at least 2/3 players sometimes. And when Lingard and Martial went off injured he had absolutely no one to pass to or making runs for him. He’s been fantastic under Ole and easily our best player against Spurs and Arsenal I fact best player by a mile full stop. Very strange criticism!
