The Manchester United Thread

Ronaldo likely will start now. But if I was ETH I would go with

DDD
Dalot-Maguire-Martinez-Malacia

Eriksen-Fred

Sancho-Bruno-Garnacho
Rashford

That's why it would be non-sensical to me to let Ronaldo leave mate. (Which still wouldn't be a surprise come Sep. 1 the way Utd roll.).

First game of the season and friendly wonder boy is missing again.

Talking of .....

Erik ten Hag himself isn’t as happy as he could be, and not just due to the fact he is short and sharp with the players. He also feels that #mufc could have brought in more of his targets by now. [@MiguelDelaney]

No ****! 🤣🤣🤣 van Gaal did try and warn you mate.

If you were in his shoes, would you be happy?

Unless you honestly believe ten Hag is some kind of miracle worker, I don't know how anyone of a Utd persuasion can be when you're pretty much starting this season with last season's shambles of a team? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Even the most ardent Utd fan must be seriously worried about the lack of depth (that isn't going to miraculously appear over the next month) in this squad going into his first season. Just looking from the outside you're going back to Ferguson's early years pre-PL for a Utd squad as poor as this going into a season. That has to be concerning from the inside surely?

Brighton don't have any serious goal threat still but would it be any kind of surprise to anyone to see them get a result Sunday?

The anti-Glazer protests need to be ramped up every game from this weekend.

Brighton didn’t have any goal threats last season yet we got walloped 4-0.

See, I know some ardent united fans that believe this has been a good transfer window. When I rebuff that ludicrous stance, I get accused of having high expectations. Fans do forget this is Manchestet United sometimes but even with this window, I never had what I’d consider high expectations. We let go of 5 first team players, my expectation was that we replace 4 out of 5 of those players and we failed to do that. That’s just a bare minimum and we’re not even meeting that. That’s apparently “high expectations”.

On a side note, Divvy Ornastein mentioned Chelsea were in for FDJ. If they pull that off, Murtough, Arnold and co just need to resign

Because they refused to pay what Barca own to FdJ? Just like with Haaland, they can **** off with with that kind of a bs. Like you said, this is Manchester United, end of the line, not some stepping stone club or a middle school nerd getting bullied for their cash. If anything, kudos for them for not giving in.

And in the end, if FdJ joins Chelsea and if he joins them because they are willing to pay off Barcas debt to him so be it. Get player B from that 'list' and if you dont have one, well then you deserve sacking.

He’s likely not happy but he’s also an intelligent guy and has admitted himself that it was gonna be tough take time and a lot of work.

He’s also the one choosing players this time around as we have binned off nearly all the top guys on the recruitment side in all departments which haven’t even been replaced yet full time. The only ones so far far I’d literally Arnold replacing Woodward. And Arnold and Boyle are new in the roles and not been in them that long. And we have had to higher a temp contract negotiator for the summer till we replace Chief contract negotiator Matt Judge permantly.

Can’t blame the club for wanting to try to get his first choice targets in which some haven’t worked out and others proving difficult for one reason or another. After so many changes in the last few months from manager, CEO, DOF, DDOF, chief contract negotiator, Head of global scouting, chief scouts which most haven’t been replaced yet is it any wonder.

Yes things maybe could of gone better but I honestly think fans had far to higher expectations (not you btw) for the summer after high of the ETH appointment after said changes and coming off our worst season. Only small things so far but I’m seeing enough encouraging signs so far on and off the field. We really do need to get the replacements spot on off the field. Hopefully after that things start falling into place. We have a summer next like this and then serious questions should be answered.

What 5 first team regulars did we let go or did you mean squad? Ben Jacobs who is Chelsea chief reporter has said the club are interested but likely won’t bid due to other priorities. After signing the FB from Brighton they will have spent about 170m and Jacobs says they want Fofana valued at 70-80m and a top STR replacement. That’s gonna take there summer spend to around 300m plus before getting to FDJ in which that’s an era they already have a wealth of options.

The annoying thing is we should of just agreed to pay Barca the extra cash to covered the def wages and got the deal done. But then you would of had fans complaining about being rinsed and what not.

Ah, but you see the difference? We ****** off when we realized how unfeasible the deal would be for Haaland. Even Solskjaer flying to Austria to convince Haaland didn’t budge much. No drawn out saga, nothing of the sort (besides lazy clickbait articles from daily mail)

From the moment details of the wages deferred by Barcelona was made public, I knew the deal wasn’t feasible.Even beforehand, I had a lot of question marks about his desire to join united. The Erik Ten Hag factor aside, we don’t offer anything beyond money. He’s on insane wages at Barca so we’d practically offer him Ronaldo like wages to join but I digress…

I’m fairly certain United officials knew of this deferred wages before it got made public yet we still pursued him. In the end, we’re stuck between Barcelona’s refusal to compensate for the deferred wages and FDJ’s unwillingness to leave until he’s paid and he’s on a 4 year contract. If we had a backup, we would’ve gone for the backup already.

But no, we’ve practically wasted 2+ months and made virtually no progress to sign him.

I don’t blame them for not budging but I however do blame them for not moving on quickly. In the end, you know we’ll end up Panic buying youri tielemans and call it a day

First of all, its only frustrating if you let it be. Papers will write every single day every fact and nonsense they can for the clicks. Its on you if you chose to read/believe them.

You know a lot of stuff, good for you. In the end, it really does not matter what you feel, what you question and what you think might happen. You might be right, you may not.

When it comes to him leaving, United did everything feesable they could. There's nothing more to be done. Everything else is on Barca and FdJ. They need to find a solution, not United. Why is this affecting you United fans so much is mind boggling.

Call me stupid, but EtH seems bent on on FdJ and as long as there are chance of signing him, he probably wont say yes to another midfielder. Now, if United do not sign a midfielder that would be even more stupid. But who am I to argue against someone like ten Hag?

Most of the leakers are gone, we dont know half the **** we knew last year.

It’s the hedy days of aummer and pre-season. When they aren’t in the side but are still having to work their backsides off in training, with the weather turning, then you’ll know if the leaks have been sealed. Even more so if it hasn’t been a good start.

Got to agree with LI. Arnold and Murtough have made their own bed here by both saying the money is there for all the managers targets. And then being pictured in Barcelona.

This has already been one of the most cringe worthy pursuits of a man who doesn’t want to come to begin with.If he then went to Chelsea ….. I don’t know how they recover from that. Wasting a whole summer and completely failing to land any of ten Hag’s top targets after claiming money was no object would be a failure of epic proportion's.

To be starting the season, in all likelihood with Fred and McTominnay is base incompetence and disgraceful on a new manager. It shouldn’t be a case of scrambling for midfielders over the last few weeks if FdJ goes elsewhere. Those players were needed along with him and should have been boxed already.

It’s alright sayng Utd aren’t some amateur corner shop operation down to the name. But absolutely everyone on a senior management level continues to act that way.

BTW mate, you aren’t a ‘finishing/ final destination’ club any more. That’s ten Hags job. To reestablish Utd as that and ultimately challenge. But right here, right now, that’s how far you’ve fallen to being that stepping stone club or a club players just come to for money.

Been there, done that with my own club and I understand how hard it is to come to that realisation and acceptance.
