The Manchester United Thread

I was encouraged by what I saw tbh. We still need a few more signings but even if half the city XI were academy lads (we didn’t have anywhere near our best XI either), we still played well and should’ve won in normal time

Side note but we do need to ship out Sancho. His mentality isn’t good enough to work here…at all so cut our losses and move him on (we probably should’ve done this regardless)

As far as our starting wingers for this upcoming season, Garnacho and Diallo no questions asked.

Rashford and the rest can warm the bench or get sold but them 2 are nailed on starters for sure

De Ligt and Mazroui medical tomorrow or Monday. Which means both should be registered for the Wednesday midnight deadline. And be available for Fulham 🤩🤩

Just read an interesting thread of Maz’s injuries. On average over the last 5 seasons he’s missed 17 games. Not ideal but not as bad as some make out. Considering we could potentially play up to around 60 games. If he’s available to give Dalot a rest in the cup fixtures and a few Europa league games that’s sound.

He’s still a top right back with excellent football ability going forward. Still good enough in defence not AWB levels one on one. And considering he’s costing less than what we are selling AWB. And his rumoured wage is to be around K70 pw that’s K30 pw shaved of the wage bill also.

🤩🤩 he loves Utd 😍😍

Didn’t he just renew?

After watching the match fully today after only seeing it briefly due to watching while working 😂 gotta say it’s definitely got me going into the season with a lot more optimism especially considering the additions we have made.

Tbh it’s not just today, pre season but also how last season ended. End of last season ETH showed he can adapt his tactics to the players available and the teams we have played. And that’s twice now in 2 finals in two different styles we have managed to carve City open and create the better match winning chances. Yesterday match especially we showed while not perfect at times with a few teething problems on show. And more of how ETH wants us to play. We can go toe to toe with the best. We played well around Cities high/mid press yesterday which led to us almost scoring some superb team goals with some exquisite build up play and one touch football in and around there box.

What was even more pleasing was our structure out of possession. We had great shape and pressed at the right times. Baring the first 20 mins and City hitting the post due to a Martinez miss pass were City hitting the post. They created practically nothing. We also looked fairly organised and comfortable at set pieces. Both things we were absolutely shocking at last season.

Not saying we are gonna win the league or anything or there won’t be the odd games we get dominated and obviously a few bad results will come. But things are definitely more optimistic going forward.

Just read an interesting tweet about Casemiro from Henry Winter. Apparently this is the first summer in 6 seasons that Casemiro has had off. I’m not surprised he looks more fit and leaner and has looked sharper in pre season.

This stat says a lot.

Shot from City yesterday 8. 1 shot on target.

Last time we concede less than 10 shots per match was all the way back to mid 22/23 season 😮

Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Ten Hag after the community shield

:"He is a good guy, top coach and had been doing his best but he was doing too much.

He was trying to sort out the squad deal with transfers and fix leaks in the roof at the same time." [@thetimes]

Matthijs de Ligt has missed only 27 matches through injury for club and country over the past four seasons, the same as Harry Maguire and fewer than Victor Lindelöf (31) and Lisandro Martínez (67). #MUFC [@TheAthleticFC]

Just looking at Ugarte stats compared to Rodri. Absolutely perfect foil for Mainoo in CM. Obviously Rodri has better passing stats in terms of short, long % and way more forward passes. But in terms of duels won and interceptions, ball recovered and tackles made Ugarte is ahead. Hopefully gets done some time this week. Ready for Brighton and Liverpool.
