The Manchester United Thread

pool game is going to be fun lol

L’pool- Utd mate. Mad things happen.

You only have to look as recent as last season mate when L’pool battered Utd three times, with something like 80 shots across all three games, and unbelievably failed to beat Utd once.

I’d be disappointed if we don’t beat you. This season has started little different to last with the most poorly coached, poor quality Utd side anyone can remember. You could quite conceivably be sat on no points right now. There should be no contest next Sunday. But its L’pool- Utd. Mad things happen. And when one side is SO far behind the other, with absolutely no hope of major silverware, the game takes on even greater significance as its all yiu have. ******* up the other team becomes all encompassing. Been there through the 90’s and most the 00’’s. Just as Utd were the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. And are once more.

When its Utd’s Cup Final, its a real dangerous game. I’m taking nothing for granted next Sunday.

L’pool- Utd mate. Literally anything can. and often does, happen no matter how poor or how dominant one side is.

Scouse clearly ain’t watching full games if he can’t see anything different to last season from pre season and our opening games. But that’s to be expected.

Ah yes, I was hoping to read up your doom and gloom post about United. You don’t consider the FA cup to be major silverware now? You say we have no hope for silverware but I kinda disagree. Wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up winning the Europa league for example…maybe with a slightly different gaffe on the touchline but that’s neither here nor there

Not in depth against Fulham as I was in and out of different boozers it was on in down Ipswich. But Fulham had enough to have drawn from when I was watching the sceeen. By your assesment of yesterday, which I did watch in full. you watched a completely different game as Brighton got exactly what their play deserved. Bar a flurry after you undeservedly equalised, Utd showed little and looked as disorganised as ever. F knows what Fernandez was supposed to be doing but he was all over the place and neither use nor ornament as there was no fical point up front:

Please play the same way next Sunday witg no control or serious threat: It would be appreciated.

Is next weeks game, which you responded to a post on, an FA Cup tie mate? Exactlty. You’ve just reiterated the whole post for me. Unless you think Utr are contenders for the league which is a whole other mad discussion.

You did use the term “major silverware”. The league title isn’t the only piece of major silverware available

Small sample size only. But our heat maps and average player positions show us starting higher up and with a more compact shape. Our front press with the 4 attacking players has been very good and a huge improvement on last season when we was pressing as individuals or as headless chickens.

We don’t look like conceding from every single set piece which was a huge problem last season as was conceding 20 + attempts which we haven’t come remotely close to that in the games so far.

Things are not perfect but to say things are the same as last season are just wrong.

Even some of our passing and build up play and beating the press is an improvement on anything we watched last season.

All I see is United missing easy chances like last season, giving up easy goals like last season, and same players getting rewarded for mediocrity, you guess it - just like last season.

There's no midfield. Ugarte is 1) not good enough 2) not the profile United needs

About this, I have been quite critical of the potential signings however, watching yesterday’s game, I know we lost that through some diabolical marking in the end but Brighton played us off the park for the last 15 mins or so due to Casemiro legs leaving. He basically gave Joao Pedro free rein on the left half space which did nothing but put the defence under pressure. Imagine if we could just sub in a Ugarte…while he would not improve our ability to properly dictate the tempo of the game, we wouldn’t get physically dominated as we did in the final minutes of the game.

He’s not a profile that will get us challenging for the league but he is one that will not only improve our counter pressing game but also good added depth that will allow us to rely on Casemiro much less

Game was over when McTominay came in. While Casemiro isn't what he used to be, having Mainoo, McTominay and Casemiro together on field is just madness. There's next to 0 creativity and only Mainoo is capable of holding onto the ball.

It's not even a kamikaze tactic by ten Hag, it's straight suicide.

On Ugarte.
He's a defensive midfielder who's best when defending high, which is fair enough, but United does not control games. It's going to be the same, once attackers get bypassed, midfielders are going to be high up the pitch and then it's attackers running at defenders.
And while some teams like Liverpool do have some success with no defensive midfielder and extremely high pressing, all of their attackers/midfielders have great workrate, and they have togetherness in everything they do. They defend together, press together and attack together. They are all athletic as well, and United lacks that athleticism, like they did in last 10 or so years.
