The Manchester United Thread

Must say i was far from impressed by Utd today but i do believe Liverpool will not drop many points at their pad this season so this shouldn't effect them too much in the long run. I do think they need a midfielder and if they don't get one by tomorrow then they will suffer in the bigger games.

We were sub par. No excuses. I have no complaints about the loss tbh.

Good for you. No one cares. The entire side was all awful. But sure, pick on the Englishman. Idiotic.

If he didn't show his technique, by repeatedly holding to the ball, beating two-three liverpool players around him, and then laying it off, then I doubt you actually watched the game.

It requires strength to hold up the ball and use your arms to not allow players to take the ball from you. There's little technique involved in that and your statement is idiotic. Despite that Liverpool did take it and he was just falling down for a penalty like a fool.

And Welbeck plays like this every time, so it doesn't matter if the entire side was awful. I am not picking on him because he's English but because he is not good enough. I am picking on you because you support him just for being English while not being good enough.

Did he play like that against swansea?

It wasn't strength, christ almighty. It was his footwork, he slipped the ball in and out of them. Your statment is wrong.

If you think i support him just because he is english, you yet again missed the point again, and I'm bored of having to reply to you.

He isn't even the finished product. There is a reason why Ferguson has put effort into Welbeck since he ws a kid, and he is slowly getting there.

Also Rafael is homegrown, but not an academy player like Welbeck. Do you know anything about the club you say you support? The English players are a core of our identity. If you don't like it, go support someone else.

I do know Rafael is not academy player like Welbeck. That is why I said he just has homegrown status. Please explain to me how exactly that makes me a person who knows nothing about the club he supports?

The more English players who are not good enough (such as Welbeck, Cleverley) United plays with the bigger the chance United will not be in top 4. And also the more English players who are good enough United plays with the bigger the chance United will be in top 4. Meaning it's not just about nationality but about how good a players actually is.

We're going back in for Herrera Baines and Fellaini. We MUST sign at least one of the two mids, ideally both. Especially with a tricky group stage.

The fact that our midfield is so poor and still hasn't been addressed doesn't help. I know Joel will hate me for saying it.

Show me the post where I said our midfield is fine and I'll show you a blue dog.

With manager David Moyes targeting at least two new midfielders before the window closes, a renewed bid for Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera is anticipated, with conflicting reports in Spain surrounding the 24-year-old’s intentions.

Manchester United's £10.75 million move for Roma captain Daniele De Rossi is understood to have made no progress, with neither the player nor his club encouraging a further move by the Premier Leaguechampions, but Moyes remains hopeful of securing additions to his squad on Monday.

“I couldn’t give you an answer on deals and whether I am confident, but there is time left,” Moyes said. “We will all know where we are by the end of Monday night.”

While Everton have rejected two offers of £28 million, rising to £30 million with add-ons, and £38 million for Fellaini and Baines, United were on Sunday night making renewed efforts to secure a breakthrough with Everton.

Belgium international Fellaini is expected to arrive at Old Trafford by close of business on Monday, with United likely to have to pay in excess of the player’s expired £23 million escape clause, but Moyes has yet to concede defeat in his attempts to sign England defender Baines.

Securing Herrera, an alternative target following failed bids for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, could prove the most problematic of United’s targeted deals. Reports in the Spanish media suggested both that Herrera had informed Bilbao that he wanted to stay at the club and also that he was keen to move to United should they trigger his €36 million (£30.7 million) escape clause.
Intriguingly, Herrera was left out of the Bilbao team for the 3-1 defeat at Real Madrid on Sunday, but coach Ernesto Valverde insisted that the decision was not related to United’s bid. Herrera had started both of Athletic’s league games this season – against Real Valladolid and Osasuna – but played no part in the game at the Bernabéu.
But Valverde said: “It had nothing to do with the bid from Manchester United, I left him out because I chose the players I thought were best suited to the game. I haven’t spoken with the player but what I’m going to repeat is that I don’t expect the club to make any moves in the transfer market tomorrow [today].
“I do not know what will happen. I want Ander to stay with us, and that is what I think, expect will happen.”
Despite United’s defeat at Anfield, Moyes claimed he would have no qualms about his squad should he fail to sign new players on Monday.
“We will continue with what’s left, but I was really impressed with how they played. I can see why they’re champions,” Moyes said. “We gave away a bad goal at the start and with the exception of that it’s the best we’ve played all season.
“I thought they dominated for long periods without having the final bit, the cross and pass. I was really pleased.”

You drunk to forget the loss i understand your pain.If you had been on cleverely bashing mood i would have said well done but you choose the wrong guy.He has already outscored from last season.Plus its not his position where he is asked to play.Lastly if you wanna hate a english player in our team go forward and bash the ahit out of young.I hate the guy and i still want to know why we signed him .

Wow. This is really wrong. Oliver Neuville is spinning in his retirement home.

Yeah i'd personally say both Herrera and Fellaini and you are 100% joint favourites for the league with Chelsea and City again. I think everywhere else on the field you match up with the two apart from midfield.

No you moaned at me cos I kept mentioning it (a while back), but it keeps being a problem!

And of course it's a problem, just moaning at the people (not just you, seriously some of the ***** I've seen going about today is unbelievable) who are slating Moyes and overreacting over everything because of ONE game when things have been like that at Anfield for years. And I'm quietly confident at least 1 mid will come in, hopefully too. For all of Moyes' words, he knows midfield is a problem, he's said it's a problem, he's just not going to come on tele and slate them publically. With exception of Di Canio, no one would.

Becoming a threat through the middle again takes the pressure and focus off the wide players. It's exactly what we need, bring back that variety.

So you're telling me he used his footwork to hold up the ball (and then pass it sideways as always)? By saying he didn't dribble well I mean when he didn't use his technical dribbling and technique abilities, his decisions and flair and also acceleration, agility and pace to go past his man. He did not do that effectively.

And yes, I do think you partly support him just because he is English, especially after your statement that English players are core of United's identity.

It just happens that Kagawa and Chicharito are more finished product. And there's a reason why Ferguson has relied more on them (especially Chicha) last season when we were behind and needed a comeback. Because in that cases you need to revert to your best players. Not to Welbeck.

Thankyou for destroying any prospect of a good night's sleep. Sigh....

It was Fergie's oldest trick in the book. It'd spin the headlines away from a poor performance and take the pressure off the squad. People would be busy slating Fergie for being on the wine too much rather than having a go at the team. The question is whether Moyes currently has the personality to pull that off.

And both will add something that we currently lack.
