The Manchester United Thread

As cover, but yes.

At this rate he will have to play loads of games, not exactly bursting with CM quality are we, Anderson (can he stay fit and injury free for a good spell, yet to be seen, nor has the quality been fully shown), Cleverley (injury-hit so far like Anderson, but no doubt has some ability, not sure whether we can rely on him this season either) and then we have Carrick..... if Carrick gets injured we are fully screwed if we do not invest in another CM. I truely hope we do not have to rely on Jones in a CM position, or even Rafael for that matter, Fletcher is out and still not sure if he is coming back.

This is how desperate we are for a CM and it seems for a fair few seasons Fergie is the one man who can't see this, which I do not understand why.

Am I the only person getting the feeling we were after him partly to make sure City didnt get him?

Wages were undoubtedly high (probably justifiably) but 6 million to an agent?! With him on that, thats nonsense. Right to pull out.

Get the same feeling with RVP too.

Ferguson defends the Glazers

Sir Alex Ferguson has launched a passionate defence of the Glazer family, insisting: ‘They have always backed me whenever I have asked them for anything.’

In a far-reaching interview here at the first phase of the team’s strenuous pre-season programme, the Manchester United manager rubbished suggestions that the mountainous debt incurred by the American owners of the club was hampering his buying plans.

‘I’m absolutely comfortable with the Glazers situation. They’ve been great,’ he said. ‘So if you’re asking me for my views, I don’t have any complaints.

‘I’ve never encountered opposition. They’ve always been as sensible as they can be in terms of financing the team, and they have to invest in the team to maintain the value of their asset.’

The fiercely strong anti-Glazer feeling among United’s rank and file following has grown with the recent revelation that the family are trying to float the club on the New York Stock Exchange in order to raise about £200million to help relieve the debt built up in buying United seven years ago.

That currently stands at £423m, with the club having spent more than £500m on interest, debt repayments and fees since 2005.

‘I think there are a whole lot of factions at United that think they own the club,’ said Ferguson. ‘They will always be contentious about whoever owns the club, and that’s the way it has always been.

‘When I came to the club, Martin Edwards was always getting pelted because he was going to sell to [Robert] Maxwell, then to [Rupert] Murdoch, Michael Knighton, and when they became a plc there was disaffection.

‘Then, when the Glazers took over, there was disaffection, so there have always been wee pockets of supporters who have their views… and there’s nothing wrong with that. But I think the majority of the real fans will look at it realistically and say it’s not affecting the team. We’ve won four championships since they’ve been there, one European Cup.

‘I think the problem is they [the Glazers] are not publicists. They don’t go out of their way to seek good publicity. They are quite happy to stay in the background. Roman Abramovich is the same.’

United are valued as the richest sports franchise in the world, at £1.5billion, mainly as a result of the efforts of Ferguson, whose haul of 48 trophies since he took over 25 years ago has made him the most successful football manager in British history. And now, giving little indication that his tenure is even close to ending, the 70-year-old Scot is as enthusiastic as ever about the future.

Citing the vast improvements to make the Carrington training complex one of the best in the world as evidence of the Glazers’ investment, he said: ‘Look at what they are spending on the training ground.

‘It’s going to be fantastic. At the moment it’s a bit of a bombsite, but it’s supposed to be completed by October and we just hope it’s ready on time. They’ll be spending about £30m and its all down to them.’

Ferguson responded to fans’ frustration at the lack of summer transfer activity by insisting he was not prepared to fork out inflated transfer fees. Responding to the fans’ clamour for a £30million-plus signing, he said: ‘Well they can wait!

‘We buy in the right way and that’s the difference between United and the rest — we can play 18-year-olds because it’s part of our history. It’s like a destiny for us that when a young player emerges we play him, and that has never failed us.

Not that I am doubting any of you but can someone post a source which says that Hazard's agent got 6m? Because I never remembered reading anything about it and mostly saw it on the epic rumour mill of Twitter

See BBC, Fergie is quoted as mentioning it in an interview. Curious to know how Fergie knows all about the ins and outs of Chelsea's contract dealings though lol.

Surely Fergie knows it? If Chelsea pays 6M, then surely agent will ask same or better that from Manchester clubs? Not just twitter, it was all over the papers that he got 6M.

That was the asking price put towards United, i'm guessing he assumes Chelsea ended up paying a similar amount (no reason why the agent would change it). Clubs will invariably know more about other clubs because of said agents.

He knows same way how Rodgers knows what Spurs offered sigurdsson?

Maybe, good thing is we went toe to toe with City to sign Hazard and if news are true then even for RVP (After missing out Nasri). So that's only good thing happened from these deals.

Yeah couldn't agree more. We were right to pull out, it would have sent wrong messages for other agents.

Got a feeling these RVP/MOURA rumours/stories will rumble on all summer.

He was spot on for major parts, they are sucking the blood out of the club but they won't interfere with the team/squad and all.

Also he can't/won't go against Glazers even if they don't provide the funds considering the IPO news and all and also it would only make the matter worse.

It's why he's been wheeled in, the IPO isnt going as well as expected, they need him to sell the Glazers as great guys, and not the blood sucking vampires they are.

Yeah, also he never said anything against Glazers even when in 09-10 when they was a green and gold campaign. It will only create mess and unrest from top level to the playing squad. They will deal internally, which is good enough for us.

Also any updates on IPO?

According to reports Manchester United have had a bid ACCEPTED for Moura which I hope to **** is not true. And on a side note, In my Man U save on FM12 I play 4-4-2 with the wingers as AML and AMR and I'm wondering if I sell Young and sign Andre Schurrle for the AML spot would it be a good deal? How does he turn out is he a world beater in game?

The Mirror is reporting that Manchester United have agreed a £26M deal for Lucas Moura. Last week Sao Paolo's owner confirmed he had rejected a £29M bid for Lucas Moura.

Non-story. Not to mention that Wagner Ribeiro (Lucas' agent) and Sao Paolo's owner have denied any deal exists.
