The Manchester United Thread

The Mirror is reporting that Manchester United have agreed a £26M deal for Lucas Moura. Last week Sao Paolo's owner confirmed he had rejected a £29M bid for Lucas Moura.

Non-story. Not to mention that Wagner Ribeiro (Lucas' agent) and Sao Paolo's owner have denied any deal exists.
Well I'm not surprised, I don't know much about the Moura saga because it's just crazy stupid now. Any advice on the Schurrle thing I mentioned?

Young is very good on the game from my memories, never used Schurrle so can't compare but I wouldn't sell Young.

The only paper who have been running this is the Mirror, and they made **** up the first time.

Yeah, also he never said anything against Glazers even when in 09-10 when they was a green and gold campaign. It will only create mess and unrest from top level to the playing squad. They will deal internally, which is good enough for us.

Also any updates on IPO?

They've revised the estimated winfdall down from £500m to £300 million, all i know for sure.

I followed him and read the article that he had retweeted.. Some interesting points in it including how Rio Ferdinand's agent was handed 5m British Pounds according to the article anyways

I wish the Red Knights consortium would take over these mugs who are utterly overpricing the valuation of the club and the shares, no wonder the IPO is not doing well.

Red Knights consortium the club would be in the good hands, as it is fans of the club running the club. Glazers just interested mainly in themselves, so what if they have spent "30m" on a training ground, how much are we in debt because of them....

Red Knights couldnt organise a **** up in a brewery. They havent accepted the simple point that Glazers hold all the cards, if they want to get the club, they will have to overpay significantly.

Glazers ridiculous over-pricing is not going to get us new owners, sadly. I see no light at the end of the tunnel with them in charge and sadly people wearing green and gold scarf's is not going to solve anything, fans need to stop buying tickets and make the Glazers out of pocket, they sure as **** would take notice then.

As long as the TV money continues roll in and we keep selling other merchandise, it doesnt actually hurt them all that much. The club isnt that massively dependent on tickets.

I never turned my back on England - it was Fabio Capello who froze me out, says Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick has spoken for the first time about his decision to retire from international football under Fabio Capello, with the Manchester United midfielder admitting he will consider a return to the England squad under Roy Hodgson after missing out on Euro 2012.

Carrick, who will be 31 on Saturday, was overlooked by Hodgson forEngland's campaign in Poland and Ukraine following the revelation that he had informed the Football Association last January of his desire not to be considered for future games under Capello.

Despite injuries to Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard which saw the experienced pair ruled out of Euro 2012, Carrick was overlooked by Hodgson in favour of the Liverpool youngster Jordan Henderson – a move which appeared to have ended any prospect of the United player adding to his 22 caps.

But while insisting that he has no regrets about calling time on his England career due to frustrations with Capello’s management, Carrick, as revealed in The Daily Telegraph last month, is open to playing again for his country if Hodgson is ready to consider him.

“I’ve had no contact from Roy Hodgson, so it would be wrong of me at this stage to make a decision either way,” Carrick said. “But yes, I would consider returning. Definitely.

“It wasn’t a case of me turning my back on my country or quitting. It is a game about opinions and Capello wanted to play a certain way.

“If that was the road he wanted to go down, then it wasn’t for me to argue with that. I just didn’t play, that’s all. I didn’t really speak to Capello about it. I just let him know my decision. In many ways the decision was made for me.”
Despite winning four Premier League titles and playing in threeChampions League finals – winning one of them – since arriving at United from Tottenham in Aug 2006, Carrick failed to convince Capello of his ability to oust the likes of Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker from the England midfield.
He was capped just seven times by Capello during the Italian’s four-year reign as manager and was an unused squad member in England’s failed World Cup campaign in South Africa two years ago.
Carrick, who arrived in Shanghai with United last night on the second leg of the club’s summer tour following two games in South Africa, admits that his exasperation at travelling the world to sit on the substitutes’ bench led to his decision to quit the Capello regime.
“I haven’t said this before, but during the last World Cup I never featured and I was never really close to playing,” Carrick said. “I hadn’t played for two years when I made the decision to quit, so it was getting to the stage where I wasn’t really playing anyway.
“I didn’t kick the door down and say, ‘You’ve got to play me or I’ll leave’. It wasn’t a case of that at all. It was more a case of, if I wasn’t going to play, then I’d rather not go with England. The World Cup was a hard time. I just didn’t feel part of it.
“If you’re not playing at my age, especially under Capello, then it’s not worth it. That was my decision.
“Some people have said it was more ‘play me or I’ll quit’ but it was nothing at all like that.
“It was just a case of ‘fair enough’ if that’s your opinion, then I’d rather not go. It was a big decision, a huge decision, but I hadn’t been part of things for two years. So I thought if it was going to be the same scenario, I’d rather let someone else go in my place.”
Carrick has been described by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the “key” to the club’s hopes of success this season and he believes he will reap the benefits of not playing at Euro 2012.
“I’ve had the biggest break of my career this summer, seven weeks and I feel really good, really fresh,” Carrick said. “My mind is refreshed too, so I feel really good.
“I watched bits of the Euros and I thought England were up and down really. I didn’t watch every game, but from what I did see, there were some positives and negatives.
“It was always going to be tough, having a new manager in, and I’m sure they’ll benefit more in the next campaign.”
United ended their two-game tour of South Africa on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Ajax Cape Town. Bebe scored United’s equaliser in the 90th minute.
Meanwhile, Hodgson said on Sunday evening it was difficult to enjoy the attention that came with his role. “I don’t know how much I enjoy it,” he said during BBC Radio’s Test Match Special broadcast from the Oval, where he was watching England’s cricketers toil. “I certainly don’t seek out the cameras but I know they’re going to follow me and I have to learn to live with it.”

Carrick should never have been left out imo. Does what he has to with minimum to no fuss superbly. Bring him back into the fold Roy!

If true then I want to have a word with Mike and Joel :p

Why? It still means nothing about a deal, his agent has now come out and denied that there was any deal/bid.

I said at best we had a scout (turns out we did). Everything else is still a non story. We havent bid 30m, and Lawlor didnt go to set up deal.
:P

Lol, you said it was just twitter nonsense, for which I said it has legs has few sources are reporting it.

We made a bid or not is not an issue, we are interested and when Fergie says "We haven't reached agreement yet" means we have enquired and made initial bids?

Anyways we have done enough of this Mike. Yeah PM me the apology :P (will save others from reading same tripe again and again :D )

Wrong, I said it was mostly fuelled by twitter, and hashed by two papers, neither story has stood up to scrutiny (as Lawlor didnt go to make a deal, and we havent made any bids or deals, two pretty key points that go hugely against them) I have said that here, on IRC and on facebook.

The bid is exactly the issue, since the papers reported we made it (we didnt make a bid, ergo nonsense)

Papers reported Lawlor went to make a deal (he didnt, he went to scout, ergo nonsense).

So we have scouted him (never denied that would happen) we have shown some interest (obvious, as we sent a scout)

EVERYTHING else was nonsene, largely fuelled by twitter.

So in truth, the majority of the story about Moura, was in fact bullshit. This is a non story, he is simply among a number of players we have scouted this year and shown interest in.

Boss confirmed we are negotiating the deal for Lucas, that is good enough to say this is not just twitter nonsense. I never said about bid (which i said was surprising at that time) and all, I said about our interest.

We are linked with number of players but we are negotiating a deal for Lucas. There is a difference, otherwise Fergie wouldn't have even talked about it imo.

You are massively cherry picking.

The Stories running were that we had sent a scout to do a deal, that we had made two bids, that were rejected. Most of the talk of the bids was on twitter, fuelled by stuff from brazilian papers, and the words of Sao Paolo (who later denied this) presumably. All of that turned out to be (twitter fired) nonsense.

The point you missed was that it was never about what you said. It was about the stories. Virtually none of what has been written has stood up to scrutiny = non story. SAF interested =/= we have made bids and all the other nonsense.

This is what Joel and I disputed. There was no accuracy with anything reported. All nonsense

The link I posted has none of that Lawlor ****, it was just posted by Mirror and other **** sites. Never said those are believable, I only said about Brazilian paper which said about bid being rejected.

SAF Interest doesn mean we have made bid. Yes. But when he says we haven't reached agreement and we can't say the player is ours till we do that they it implies that we are negotiating and may have bids turned down.
