The Manchester United Thread

Pretty much. hence the reason for some of rants in the past. He will not care about the clubs, he will not care about the fans. It's a simple equation for him. EPL>TV deals>piles of cash. The fans won't even make the list.

For me it's club survivability above everything else. Even if it means stalling a while on progression financially. It's sickening to see what the fans of portsmouth, darlington, plymouth et al go through and the FA not giving a dam. I sense there's going to be a long overdue kick in the balls for Scudamore and his cronies before long. And it's looooong overdue and it's going to hit where it hurts most. And I look forward to seeing it

Well on the brightside, you weren't beaten 2-1 by Oldham Athletic. Unlike Man City lol. had some of their first teamers playing aswell

Sir Alex Ferguson has today released a statement about Manchester United planned share issue.

"Being aware of the media coverage that is currently ongoing I felt, on this occasion, that I should make my position clear to the Manchester United fans.

"In regards to suggestions that I have praised the Glazer Family because I stand to financially benefit from the proposed IPO, there is not a single grain of truth in this allegation. I do not receive any payments, directly or indirectly, from the IPO.

"Ultimately, I run the football side of this club and in order to do this, you need backing from above.

"The Glazer family have let me get on with my job, there is no interference or obstruction, only support.

"My decisions and beliefs are not based around what is best for my personal financial gain. That is an accusation that insults me. If that was the case, I would have left Old Trafford a long time ago.

"I am speaking out because I do not want a situation to develop whereby the media and other parties create a rift, however small, between myself and any Manchester United fan. I've spent 25 years of my life pushing this club forward and not only could I not have done it without those fans, I do it for them."

I personally think he is bit overrated ( current ability ) and should stay in Brazil until 2014 at least.

Thier vice president denied it.

However, the Brazilian outfit have now dismissed these reports, with Paulo de Jesus Lopes claiming that they have held official talks only with Manchester United.
"I'm not aware of this information," he told Lancenet. "I was with (Sao Paulo president) Juvenal Juvenicio yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday).

"We sat only to negotiate with Manchester United, but their offer was not good enough."

I still think we're going to get him. It's pretty obvious we're not going to sign a midfielder, so I have no qualms with us splashing out on this sexy little *******.

Oh good an unready and semi overhyped player, who wont fill our weakness. Europe will be trembling.

This probably wont come to pass, and that will make me happy.

Not sure how its obvious. The only reason we know about RVP is that Arsenal leaked, and Moura because they needed the hype before the IPO. If you notice, the club has once again fallen dead silent.

Just got to hope the IPO fails, which it would appear like it will. Glazers being massively greedy and overvaluing the club, and offering little return on investment. They're desperate for cash now, a failed IPO will hopefully force them into a full sale.

Brazil are still in the Olympics, for all we know, a deal could be in place for Lucas already and they're not going to announce it until the Olympics are over.
And I really doubt that interest before the IPO was nonsense, I remember Fergie confirming we were interested in De Gea last year and we ended up signing him a few months later.

I am hoping this as well. It has to, surely potential investors will see that there is no benefit to buying any shares.

Comparing apples and oranges here... De Gea filled a need since Man Utd needed a GK as Van Der Sar was retiring. Lucas Moura is a over-hyped, inconsistent player who does not fill a need and will be very expensive to boot. Also the fact that he was being linked before the IPO makes it seem like the club is trying to convince everyone that they can rival the sugar daddies and spend big because of the way the Glazers have been potrayed as blood-sucking, money-minded vampires to attract investment

Also when you consider the trend of Fergie's signings, I doubt he will ever spend 32m+ pounds for a player who has plied his trade in the Brazilian League, cant even get into the Brazilian U-23 Team and has never been all that consistent. Talented Player but never worth over 30m pounds
