For me, when you have that much of the ball and don't use it well enough, and then are careless in defence, you can have no excuses in defeat. That's my personal standard. We should have killed them off 3 times over, regardless of whether Lloris stays on or not.

There was some statistical analysis done on throw-ins near the corner flag vs corners and the resulting outcomes, and the result showed that the team was more likely to score from throw-ins than corners. I presume due to the time you get to get the defence in place versus taking a throw in and forcing the opposing team to un-balance or re-adjust. The same idea with a short corner, you're allowing yourself a bit of control whilst forcing them back into the box. A lot of the time it seems sides like Barca want to take a short corner then whip in a low cross from the byline to try and force something to happen as the defense pushes out.
You are right about the team being full of midgets unable to win a header, but there is a reason for this preference where the trend was looked at across multiple leagues and nations.
Well, I'm not sure if looking at league wide statistical data would be very reliable in this case. Anybody, even me, can send a baloon in general direction of the box, but players who can actually do a long cross properly from the corner with necessary precision and power are about as common as honest politician riding on a unicorn.
Short corner may be more effective but mostly it takes less skill to perform. Put Terry, Vidic and Caroll in one team and have Beckham unretire to hit some corners and they would set defenses on fire.
