My biggest gripe is not results, it's his mentality and how he gets away with it because he packs it up in the word philosophy to come across better than if he were like Moyes who was too honest for his own good and admit things are in a bad state.
The football is so defensive. Moyes was clueless in trying to execute attacking football. He wanted to preserve the United tradition of wing play but his own style was based on being compact and tenacious through the middle. The mix of the two was horribly disjointed.
Van Gaal has openly criticised the balance yet his signings made it more top heavy. The keeper has saved us many points this season but he is only human. Eventually our luck went. His idea to rectify the defence was to stick another player at the back, which nullified our attacking threat because we've turned into a risk-averse, safety first side. And he is so stubborn in game to change. I think he has been caught out on how up and down the English game is. It's not like in the continent when both teams may be following a game plan, and it becomes a patient, tactical game. He spoke about 4-4-2 diamond making his "*** twitch!!". You can change systems in game. You can get a message across to individuals but he lets it happen in front of him.
