The Manchester United Thread

You can judge him next week ;)

If he plays that is, which I doubt, he'll probably be on the bench.

Ha Ha. Yeah, almost in Utd week. (Or L'pool depending on which side of that divide you sit.).

I can imagine things can get quite heated around these here parts around that game lol. Still can't believe GMP have sanctioned a tea-time kick-off. Still not sure how I'm gonna' play that.

Not gonna' predict a thing because it's L'pool-Utd. ANYTHING could happen.

Looking at our spending over the past 3 seasons, we haven't shied away from spending and putting quality on the pitch nor is there a squabbling over transfer fees. There's nothing cheap about a maximum budget of 50 million for a world class striker.

Indeed I thought Wenger had finally reverted his ways but he was back to his old tricks again this summer. You are literally 2-3 players away from being front-runners for the title. I went ballistic on the Chelsea thread a couple of months ago when I saw how we were letting Cech land into your lap. I thought '****, now Wenger will spend big and get a world-class striker and challenge for the title' but you guys didn't

So we played Germany yesterday, thought you all wanna see some Bastian ****:

Passes attempted : 118 with 91% accuracy, and the most tackles and interceptions out of both teams.

Funny how stats skew an overall picture you get from watching a game.

Not surprised his accuracy was so high being as everything was short and simple. The tackles and ints do surprise me as he looked the one German on the pitch where Father time was catching up to him. Particularly when Poland really went for it late first/ early second.

Just didn't seem to have the legs out there. Shrugs.

Your LB still playing in Poland impressed me. As did the German's.

No surprise, but Casillas starting and captaining Spain yet again.

Be a real gamble if Van Gaal does indeed bring De Gea back a week today with nothing under his belt the last few months. Let alone bringing him back in that game of all games.

Still covered more ground than almost anyone again

Did he really? There you go. Funny how you get a certain perception from watching a TV game.

Always amuses me when you get home from a live game and someone has a completely different account of what they've watched via the TV. Difference in seeing the whole pitch and not.

There is a perception that he cant cover as much ground. Not quite true, he cant cover as much ground as HE used to. He still covers more ground than most other players

To be fair, he's shown great national fitness. I was first to say that I didn't think his legs were up to it due to age and injury, however he's proved this to be wrong. He will be a bargain for United if He remains injury free because his injury record over the past 4 seasons is atrocious.

Because Giroud is a class lower. There's no point of buying them then finding out we need another striker later. Barcelona played a season or 2 without a recognised striker before Suarez came along. They could have signed Soldado.

Thats still the wrong mentality/approach. You also need competition and/or cover. Burnout and injuries do happen. Kane this season is an obvious example of the former. As for the latter Arsenal are ALWAYS the example.

Its was his 100 app as captain, which is absolutely insane achievement in itself. He was already a captain when De Gea was 13. No wonder he is undroppable even when his form isn't what it used to be.

Fun fact, he only became LB this year, at 26, after playing whole career as winger......

Wow. Really? That explains a LOT as he looked so comfortable bombing up and down that left hand side.

Much more of this and this will be his last season at home before some foreign club snaps him up.

1. If the Sunday Times isn't enough, there's always
2. the **** that Duncan Castles is to
3. Stop reading the article immediately and
4. Bring holy water to wash up your screen. If it smokes, that's OK, it should. Everything evil will smoke.

The Satan has gone into you. I suggest you ask help from Ron Feyl.

Its a joke, it can be good article, but I refuse to read anything from the **** that Duncan Castles is.

UNITED WEEK! (Or LIVERPOOL WEEK in here I guess.).

With absolutely no disrespect intended to the boys in Belgrade, Buenos Aires, Glasgow, Istanbul, Milan, Rome et all, there's NO more bitter (and let's be honest completely hate filled) rivalry than the two English giants either end of the East Lancs Road. By far and away the biggest game in English football at least and always will be. The football is often secondary to everything else that surrounds this game when you have not only the two most successful clubs in England and two of the biggest in the World going at each other; but two of the biggest City's in the Country that I'd argue are on a par now with London for everything you could possibly wish from a great City. Except these two are a mere 35 miles apart, and as culturally different in most everything as they are traditionally alike. As much as we don't like to acknowledge that. And it all manifests itself, sadly often in the worst possible sense from both sets of supporters, when L'pool and Utd meet.

Honestly not going to temp fate by offering up a prediction. In this game of all games, ANYTHING can happen.

All I hope for is a great game in amongst the madness, with no injury's. And as little trouble as possible (for me to get in and out in one piece ha ha) after the absolutely non-sensical decision to schedule it for half 5 on a Sat'day tea-time, after all day drinking and the subsequent disruption to the average Saturday night in Manchester.

So I wish you good luck, and let the banter and posturing begin! :P.

The rivalry between United and Liverpool is a shadow of what it used to be. That's because of the gap between the teams as Liverpool has fallen away. It still is a great rivalry, however I don't think that it can lay claim to the best anymore.

I don't think that Liverpool can be considered a giant anymore. They are nothing special in terms of resources or popularity around the world anymore.

Liverpool and Manchester aren't comparable to London in terms of culture, history or development. Liverpool is horrible underdeveloped. It still is a very good rivalry however it's more locational that divisional. In the 21st Century United had arguably had a bigger rivalry with Arsenal (Until 2008) and City until Fergie left. It's the same with the North London Derby which was much bigger 5 years ago, when the teams were much closer.
