I would still rather have Dithering Dave then The Mental One at United.
Rooney didn't blow it because he isn't quick enough to reach that ball. This isn't lightning 2010 Rooney. He didn't actually stop martial though. Martial made the best chance of the entire game. Which Rooney blew
Because Rooney is so slow these days. I know he played most games on the left. That is a gilt edged chance. If it's out by inches then you Thor your body at it. Once the keeper is off line even the smallest deviations puts it past himRooney didn't blow it because he isn't quick enough to reach that ball. This isn't lightning 2010 Rooney.
BTW: Martial is a natural striker, however he played most of his first team games on the left wing for Monaco. That's why Van Gaal called him a winger. The ball to Rooney was over hit by mere inches.

Watch the chance again, Rooney was busting a gut to get to the ball. It's harsh to be hyper critical to the point at which he's criticised for not being quick!
Rooney could have easily made the first touch to take it around the keeper.
Firstly, he's got to time his run to stay onside, meaning that he has to adjust his stride to achieve this. Watch the timing of the run. When the ball gets hit, he's busting a gut to get onto that ball. Strikers can't be running at 100% speed all of the time. Why do you think he scored so many goals? If he doesn't adjust his strike there, he's offside. You don't think he decided '**** it I don't wanna score today'. Are things so dire that we're criticising an out of form striker who barely gets any chances for not being quick enough to get to the ball?Rooney messed up the chance, he slowed down to adjust his stride instead of running at full speed.

He's got to watch Martial make the pass to ensure that he's onside. As a result of that, he doesnt know that the keeper has come out that far. The ball from Martial comes in so quickly that there's no way that he knows where the keeper is. It's excellent anticipation from the keeper than anything else. Martial hits the ball a fraction of a second too late and over hits it by inches. There's no way that Rooney accelerates earlier without being offside.![]()

It's not like Rooney has been missing chance after chance. What else do you expect when you have an out of form striker who hardly gets any chances to score? I get that an out of form Wayne Rooney's first touch and passing has been poor, but this seems to be a fundamental issue of a lack of creativity. It's a bit worrying when two players from a title rival creates the same amount of chances as your whole team, of a higher quality.

That near chance there is created by Rooney's movement more than Martial's pass. Rooney's movement and timing of the run is excellent there. When Martial hits the ball, Rooney doesn't know the keeper has come out to intercept. If he touches the ball, that early, he takes the ball too wide and the chance is gone. It's just a great bit up goalkeeping and Rooney being unlucky that the pass was inches away.He slowed down after he made the run, when the ball was just passing him.
He scored many goals because he was excellent player, now he is on decline and his confidence is shot.
Dude you need to watch games than just going by some numbers or some imaginations. No one is blaming Rooney for not scoring, just watch his game for once before making any post.
Rooney is one of the big reason why chances are not created. Every one two played with him is a waste of possession, players never get passes back from Rooney, his first touch is horrendous and doesn't help him to pose any threat at all. His reflexes are **** slow, he is just few seconds late for every pass. It's near impossible to create anything for this Rooney.
When your striker can't run or create space, it's not possible to create chances.
