The Manchester United Thread

If there is one thing that Van Gaal always do, it's having faith in young players. Very refreshing to see.

He could have used Young as RB but no. He used Varela. When Darmian was injured he could have subbed in Young. But no he subbed in Borthwick Jackson.

Before this, he used McNair against Chelsea at Bridge and also Wilson to lead the line in few games.

If there is one thing I'm happy with Van Gaal, it's his faith in young players. He also included Rashford in the match day squad which will give him lot of hope. Also Powell was back from injury and he got his chance.

Wait, I forgot Lingard. He is 22 or 23 but physically he didn't develop much. Now he is getting his chances.

Yeah ideally Mourinho would start RLC against Porto tonight in place of any one of the senior players who have let him down. But will he do so? I am not holding my breath

Pity that's the one thing that Jose never picked up from LVG

If Jose had taken that from LVG, you would be on course for the title.

Anyway, I think the last two games have answered an important question on whether the boring style is down to #philosophy not working. Given how defense went completely to **** the moment team tried to attack more openly, its obvious that cautious style is deliberate.

Which also means all the talk about replacing LVG at this moment is kind of pointless. There isn't THAT much of a quality gained from switching to, say, Ancelotti, that would make currently available squad play much better. More investment is needed in the front, its as simple as that.

Wolfsburg game is not something we should be judging Manutd defense though. Completely patched up defense and our main DM missed the game. For some reason Van Gaal thought Schweinsteiger alone is enough in midfield.

Paul Scholes slams Manchester United: 'When you have an average team, you get average results'
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has heavily criticised Louis van Gaal’s team after the 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League condemned them to the Europa League.

Anthony Martial’s first goal in over 11 hours of football and Josuha Guilavogui’s second-half own goal gave the English side hope but a Naldo double and Vieirinha's 29th minute strike settled the match.
Discussing the result with fellow members of the Old Trafford alumni - Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen - Scholes bemoaned the lack of urgency on show under the Dutch manager.

“The home game against PSV was the killer,” said the 41-year-old. “You go to Wolfsburg and you see how much there are trying to score goals. In the last half an hour of that PSV game there was no urgency, no threat.
“United just look an average team. With an average team you get average performances.”

Scholes, who won 11 Premier League titles and enjoyed two Champions League triumphs under Sir Alex Ferguson, later turned his attention on Van Gaal’s refusal to sign a striker with ‘killer instinct’.

“When you're relying on a 20-year-old kid to scoring a goal, it's just not right,” he added.
“There should be proven goalscorers there. As we seen at the start of the season, proven goalscorers have left the club. That's where they've failed, there's no real killer instinct.
“I'm sure Martial will be a brilliant player, the only thing he lacks is that killer instinct. I'm sure that will come over years to come but United should not be relying on a 20-year-old kid - especially when you've spent £250m.”

I don't see why Martial's age is important. Who cares if he is 20 or 40. As long as he sticks the ball in the net, which he is more capable of doing that most strikers out there, he is good enough. Funny that Scholes out of all people complains about age

Don't judge our defence with the wolfsburg game tho...

We were without rojo, shaw, valencia, and darmian(at a point)

To top it all off, we had our only real DM out....

If schniederlin played, he would have given bastian enough support

Whatever one thinks of LVG now, he always left a club in a better place than when he got there.
Yes you are right on that, I certainly hope he does. Not sure about the two of jobs before hand AZ Alkmaar & Dutch national team.
Anyway does anyone know how youth teams are doing, has he had any influence on the style they are playing.

One of you guys mentioned already that the rest between Thursdays' Europa League games and the weekends' PL games is only 2 days, which can backfire horribly.

Well, well.

Bastian with 3 match ban apparently.

This means Fellaini-Carrick pivot. With Valera-McNair-Blind-Young backline.

Looks like Schneiderlin is back. So Carrick Schneiderlin midfield.

Just seen a post on facebook that wolfsburg made an error in registering a player so could be kicked out of the competition?

I am ridiculously overtired due to work and uni and 3 hours sleep in 40ish hours this is a fake bullshit story right?

Thought best to ask here to my mental state right now
