The Manchester United Thread

Totally get it, think we can all agree that the next manager has to be the right one or it could be another step into the wilderness. Pretty much all the decisions we make from here on out have to be right, starting in this transfer window. I'd rather us not strengthen than get in another mediocre player, we need proven quality. (Especially if we're trying to address the lack of goals problem with the limited chances we have, although while Rooney remains it's pointless because they will be on the bench majority of time).

100%. And I'm with you replacing LVG in the summer. But we need to get there in good shape first, by hook or by crook. Then step it up with someone else. This was the season I would judge him on, and he does not stand up for me.

Short-term vs. long-term is not even a debate right now. We're mid-season, so short-term is a priority. You can worry about long-term when the season is over.

In other words, even if you want LVG out, you better pray he steadies the ship and lands in top 4. All while the club can work behind the scenes to bring a replacement manager, who will have comfortable situation coming in.

The alternative is to bring Mourinho right now, who doesn't fit the club ethos at all, has about 50% chance to cause a massive disaster, and even if he does good, he's not some miracle worker who will fix obvious problems with the squad, using magic wand.

Speaking of magic, the massive injury crisis is over, everybody bar Valencia and Shaw is available, and suddenly you're collecting points again, delivering solid performances. Who woulda thought.
Err Rojo?...jones? Young? Lingard?...

Route C, wins enough to get to the end with United doing well. Then you bin him off.

That is exactly the route the club should take. But there is a power struggle going on. Suspect Woodward's own future is tied to it

That nonsense was reported by Ogden who after Moyes sack hasn't got a clue on what's going on at United. His report is full of logical failures.

Koeman was very angry with Mane and when asked if this is related to transfer he said "maybe".

Hopefully we get him. There isn't anyone better we can get in Jan than Mane.

Let me ask you then this. Play him for who? What is the point buying more players and pushing good players on the bench who should perform but cant somehow under LVG. And then your injury guys will come back and yet again you have too many players.
Only guy I could see you guys buying is a striker. Someone who can command and works hard.

Only mistake I see LVG made, was selling too many(and good) players and making holes into the team.

Also is there no one else available than Mou, Pep and Simone? Someone more unknown with potential?

Play him instead of who? This is the team that scored around 22 league goals in 19 games. Apart from Martial he can play instead of any of our attackers. He brings much needed directness to the team and pace. Him on one wing and Martial on other would be more threatening and improves us.

Wenger is that you?

Meh, rather not, average player in terms of who United should be looking at and a hefty price guaranteed.

But it is not the players fault. U are then saying that Mane is better than Mata, Herrera or Depay? I cant see him bringing something new to the team. If LVG truly is and will play Martial on the wing then u still need a striker not another winger. Rooney needs to be dropped from striker position. Or if u really want a winger then u need someone who is a game changer and can dominate.
Hording in players will make things even worse in team and also financially.

Mane is better than Mata(since he joined United) and Depay (his performance in PL). Martial and Mane as wingers would add pace and directness to the team that we are missing. Mata slows the game a lot and he just can't beat a player.

Not sure about hording in players, we have around 17 senior outfield players, which is among lowest in the league.

Check our history and see from where we signed most players. Also Mane is anything but average.

He is too hot and cold for me, I don't think he's worth the outlay we would have to pay at this point. Southampton will fleece us.

Any club will have to pay a lot if they want to buy from PL. With all the TV money it's even difficult to sign from PL clubs.

Not sure on too hot and cold stuff. Looks like you are just posting cliches about wingers.

May be cliche's but I think it is true in the case of Mane. I'd rather have a striker (but Rooney will be no.1 so...) and/or a CB. Both we could of done with in the summer and still need now.

And singing Mane would mean not signing striker and CB because_______?

While I would like Mane, lets face it, he has scored 3 goals this season and that is our issue. Goals. Why sign someone from 35+ mill (or 65 million if you believe some sources) when we need goals,a striker. I am not saying "don't sign him" because we should, but he should be second priority right now, and a striker who can score should be our first and foremost goal.

He is not a striker to judge him on goals. He plays as winger and attacking midfielder, this season in league alone he has 6 assists and 3 goals in 1473 mins, which is around 16 games. That's more than a good return.

His 9 goals + assists is more than anyone at United.

Again, why not sign Mane and striker also? It's not Van Gaal is told to pick either winger or striker.

I know that and that is my point, why sign a winger/attacking mid player when we need a striker, I mean look at our striking options, we have Rooney, Martial.... Will Keane? Not good enough.

And where did I say that we shouldn't sign more that one player? I didn't and i also said we should sign him, my point was that I think we should be signing a striker as our priority 1 for the window. We can add more if we need to (like Mane). I would rather us have a goal scorer who can get the goals for us. I mean we could have the best winger in the world to put in crosses or through balls ad create assists, but when we have a very out of form Rooney and Martial our only competent striker (who i also add is playing more on the wing than striker) no one is going to score from it. Just my opinion.

And what's our wing options? We need winger as much as striker if not more. Depay, Mata both completely out of form and Mata lack pace. Martial is our only good winger.

Again, why it should be in the order of Striker first and then Mane? We can do multiple deals at the same time right, why not just sign the player who is available first instead of risking the deal.

IMO we need winger more than striker. Martial can lead the line and anyways Rooney won't be dropped. If striker is signed Rooney will be moved to #10 position which means Herrera will be on the bench. At least if we have good wingers like Mane and Martial, they will create lot of chances.

Striker is the utmost priority, not just now, but for the future. Rooney may be looking shaper last few games, but he is only going to continue to decline. The sooner that gets sorted the better.

Martial, Mata, Memphis, Young - your best player yesterday?

We can do multiple deals at the same time right

Buying multiple first team players in January is never a good idea. People need time to gel and learn the tactics.

If Martial leads the line then you need 2 wingers, not one.
