He only acted like a nervous wreck for 6 months

He was weird at the end of Madrid, and there was something not entirely right about the way he came back to us. Falling away from the title in the first year was largely down to his stubbornness too,

Nah, it was due to the lack of a clinical striker

Man United must get Jose Mourinho given lack of alternatives - ESPN FC

This perfectly illustrates what happened. United never thought to start working on Guardiola from the start thinking their history and tradition would woo him in the end. They realized it too late when they got blindsided by the Petroboys from City who have suddenly formed a footballing empire right under the noses of Woodward and co

Now they are forced to turn to the man they never wanted to turn to. Next season should be amazing

Blindsided,??? City have been after Pep for years, they prob still had the contract on the table from the offer before he got to Bayern. They kept the relationship going knowning full well in 2 years, at renewal they'd get another stab at it, and it worked.

Blindsided, nah they've built this in front of Woods face, for once in a long long long time, they've stopped glancing over the fence and got on with building there own half of the city..

Even more sterile boredom under Mourinho? Lel, someone is listening to the pundits too much.
.

Isn't is obvious? Jose plays defensive against big teams but his team always scores goals. Don't expect any positive post from him. Always doom and gloom about ManUtd. If things actually goes as it goes in his team then ManUtd would have shut down long back.

If you want new manager to be someone who's been increasingly acting like a total nervous wreck for last couple of years, be my guest. It's your club.

Just don't be surprised if it ends in tears, because it probably will.

It will end in tears for sure but what we need is short term success to put us back in the mix. We are going down way too quickly. ManUtd should be in the mix for the league and win one before it's too long. Winning 1 at least gives some space for longer term planning.

Hard to blame Woody when something happened before his time. In the same way you can blame Roman and Arsenal also for not trying to sign Pep.

Boy are you in for a surprise on how he sets a team up if he doesn't change his MO datsy.

But it's not my concern so enjoy him if he's the man Utd choose. I personally hope he is as I think he's completely the wrong move for your club but that's another story. It's your club so so I hope you get the man you want.

For sure. With Jose, ManUtd fans will enjoy winning league title and cups, with Klopp you can celebrate drawing against WBA.

Roman actually tried his very best. You would be surprised at how close Chelsea were on a number of occassions. We definitely tried much much harder than United. Cant say anything for Arsenal

Yes blindsided. United always thought they were in the game right till the last minute. It just so happened that City were playing a completely different sport. By the time Woody realised, it was way too late. So yes it was blindsided

And what a half of a city they have built. They more or less completely dominate you in the youth arena and will probably dominate at first team level as well with their war chest and Pep. I am genuinely fearful that next 3-4 years will be City domination unless Mourinho 1.0 is the version that turns up at United

But didn't try hard enough because you didn't sign him. So Roman is an idiot.

First thing, you are replying to City fan (just FYI).

Second, it's your assumption and contradicts everything that is reported officially. City approached Pep when ManUtd had Fergie as their manager, it was done in 2012. They laid the foundation back in 2012 by appointing ex Barca staff who were on excellent terms with Pep.

Woody had no chance to compete when more or less everything was done before he was even appointed.

I'm the resident City fan fella, :)

Jesus can't we go at least one day without Sunil and Scouse having one of their squabbles? I'm guessing not.

More like 3 years. People in normal state of mind don't poke the other manager in the eye. His behavior has been increasingly erratic ever since his last year in Madrid. In those 3 years he managed to lose both Madrid and Chelsea backrooms, as well as large section of the fans, something that was previously unthinkable because the players and fans always loved him.

If you hire 2005 Mourinho, good for you. But if you hire 2015 Mourinho, I'd worry.

I have no idea what the first part even means. Chelsea tried hard and gave him a blank cheque 3 times ever since he left Barcelona. Read Balague's book on Pep. Meanwhile not a word of United attempting to get him to that extent

No assumptions. City started to lay the foundational work very early. United did not bother for whatever reason. Its very possible that they felt Pep would come running once they came calling with all their history and tradition. But once they actually attempted to get him this season when they knew LVG had to go, they realized they had no chance. If they knew that from earlier, they wouldn't have even attempted contacting him this season

This may not necessarily be Woody's fault although he as CEO has to take the blame. Lack of foresight and poor planning at the executive level at United. Thats why the Petroboys at City are catching up incredibly fast
