The Manchester United Thread

Rafael is the one I regret.

Hernandez was always going to leave to be a first choice striker elsewhere.

Fletcher wasn't good enough, though very happy he's still playing football.

Evans was utter pony.

Nani I'm still undecided on frankly.

Dont get me wrong, I HATED Nani. He's the most frustrating player ive ever seen, but maybe LVG could have sorted him out. Basically we have sold Nani (for peanuts) and bought another Nani for 3 times the price (Memphis). Im just hoping Memphis can fulfill the potential we all know he has.

Selling Rafael was idiotic. He wasnt the best defender, but again, LVG could have sorted him out in that department. He always gave 100% and could run all day.

Fletcher was/is certainly good enough to be a squad player (if he wanted to continue like that. I think he would have stayed). Calm head. Been at the club for years and knows what its all about being at the top.

Hernandez would have stayed if he would have got game time. He knew he was never going to be 1st choice. He knew that under Fergie so that doesnt really change anything. LVG just didnt like him. But if your going to sell RVP then Hernandez should have been given another year. If he bought an edequate replacement then fair enough but he didnt. He sold RVP and Hernandez, bought Martial, and plays him as a left winger. So we have our 1 and 2 both on the pitch every game. Where is the backup?

Evans - see my other post. Could have filled in at full back aswell if need be.

Obviously is great to know all this info now, and none of us could have predicted another **** storm of injuries, but facts are facts. He sold solid squad players, didnt adequately replace them, and his big masterplan was to resort to playing wingers as full backs, midfielders as defenders and strikers as wingers/midfielders.

LVG would have broken Nani I feel tbh.

Rafael, dont think anyone was happy about that. Always though he was going to get another actual RB along side Darmian, but never did which is bizarre. Rafael been pony at Lyon though. Should bring him back.

Hernandez gave a really long in depth interview. He was going either way. He really needed to play week in and wee out to "find his game" as he put it. Even rotation wasn't enough, and I dont blame him at all.

Evans, was awful all round. No regrets.

Fletcher had the know how, but no longer the ability. We miss his off field presence though.

But as you say, real issue is not filling the holes left.

You're making it sound as if LVG offloaded all those players purely on the basis that he didn't like their FM attributes.

He gave Evans a lot of chances and he was utter ***** every time.
Rafael was injured or booked all the time. He's not exactly setting the world on fire in Lyon either.
Hernandez had plenty of chances and done ******* nothing.
Fletcher was an amazing player in his day, but nobody gets back to his old level after such a long break from competitive play.

I could go on and on. He gave chances to most of the "deadwood" and they just didn't take them. It's up to the player to take his chance and convince the manager he's worth keeping.

Even if LVG performs a miracle and wins the Europa league, which I really can't see, that shouldn't save his job.

The entire first team can't even take their chances playing week in week out. We have all seen the football over the last few years and how he's tried to make us play. If the first 11 can't even get their head round it playing every week, how is somebody playing 30 or 60 minutes every now and then supposed to make any impression in the team?

Evans had far more chances than he deserved. Rafael in fairness couldnt stay fit enough to take any. Hernandez was leaving anyway, once you hear his interview.

Am I the only who thinks mourinho will get the best out of memphis?

(see answers in bold)

We had all them covered until the ******* decide to get rid of them all and leave us with a bare bones squad. Every single one of those players are still good enough to get into this team at the moment and do a job.

Exactly. Even though I wasn't fully satisfied with Evans or Fletcher in the starting LU but still better than relying on U18 players to save our arses and get the top four.

And don't even mention Chicharito's name, who scored 22 this season so far, 'cos I go mad.

The only reason the job would be avaliable would be United out of C, thats kinda the point

If we scraped 4th would you seriously want LVG still then, for another season of his philosophy?

Gut feeling. By some miraculous turn of events, you make the Champions League. Be it through the league or by virtue of winning the Europa.

Ya' think they'd let him see out the contract a third season?

Probably replace him with Jose now, but wouldn't have before. Might not if he wins EL convincingly

Ta. Be interesting to watch it all play out.

He was definitely safe, then we had our worst run, and now its all up in the air. United havent denied talking to Jose either. United aware they handled sacking Moyes badly so will aim to get it right, fair play.

He definitely needs to win something to have any hope of staying for the 3rd season.

It's not about what I want, but what the club is interested in.

But you're forgetting that the aim for last season was 4th, this season it was admitted by LVG and Woodward to being 3rd and a small title push. So it's way below their expectations they had at the start of the season regardless.

The biggest mistake in all this is the boards indecisiveness just like under Moyes, it has cost us another season. If they had of acted at the right time and sacked LVG after the Norwich or Stoke game this season may of still of been salvageable.

He's not super physical, and we don't need him to be, he starts our attacks, has excellent positioning and reading, very good against intelligent forwards. Unless you're going to replace him with a ball playing centre back, it's not an upgrade. City have this exact issue with Mangala and Otamendi, they don't compliment each other. Smalling and Blind do. Only way we currently do better is a fully fit Rojo.

All true - which is why I dont understand why you cant see we need to buy a proper cb (at least)
