The Manchester United Thread

No worse than an other United player. They were all poor.

But take nottin' away from Feyenoord. (Who were far from great themselves.). Top the Dutch League with 5 wins out of 5. To think Utd just had to turn up to win was never going to be the case regardless. This is a tricky group. No question one they should come through, but it's no cakewalk. The only positive out the night was the other game ended in a draw so no real damage done save for pride and a few lost coefficient points.
Bailly was good.

Thats the thing right there. A lot of people would expect us just to turn up and win. But an away game to a team in form isnt going to be easy and we can accept and understand that. But to not even turn up and make a game is something else entirely. I dont think Feyenoord did anything special defensively to stop us playing. So we cant use parking the bus as an excuse. We was just absolute ***** when we had the ball and had no ideas whatsoever. Feyenoord could have camped out in their box for 90 minutes and I still dont think we would have had a decent shot on goal we was that poor going forward.

In all honestly, a team of our level, with the players on the pitch at the level they are at, against that level of opposition, should still be dominating a game and creating a few decent chances. Forget the changes, forget who was playing their first game/start. Its not like thats the first time they have kicked a ball since May. They are still training every day, keeping match fit. I dont buy the "its his first game" excuse. They are professional footballers. They do this week in week out for a living. If you go on holiday for 2 weeks you dont suddenly forget how to type on a keyboard at work, or stack shelves at Tesco, and need a few shifts to get back into the swing of things. Probably poor examples but you get the point im making. Theres not an excuse in the world that can justify that performance.

My predicted lineup for tomorrow, think we'll go back to the squad that won us the first games, De Gea, Romero and Johnstone also in the squad, Bailly seems to not be in the squad for some reason!

I think we will go

Ddg
Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw
Carrick, Pogba
Rashford, Rooney, Martial
Zlatan

think Mourinho will want to start getting the best and strongest CB pairing together. Also think Carrick will start to bring some control to the CM area and help Pogba out and settle him down for s few games. On other news CBJ was fantastic today against Newcastle with a MOTM performance, easily best player on the pitch and smashed it on all the stats sites averaging 8.3. And Periera on loan at Granada has also been doing very well in a really **** team. Looks to have matured and putting in some very disciplined displays defensively and also looking good going forward. Playing on the left mostly gutting in.

Yeah I'd love for Carrick and Rashford to start as well, but I still think he'll go with Fellaini and Mata as he did the first games.

I hope Rojo is out in January and CBJ takes his place haha, also saw Pereiras game with Granada, looking very mature indeed!

Promising signs for CBJ and Periera not seen to much of Wilson this season. Heard he's been ok but not scoring when he's played.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Schneiderlin play either, I thought he performed his role/job well the other night for a man that didn't kick a ball throughout the Euro's or at all this season.

Yeah, gonna be tough competition for that spot next to Pogba with Fellaini and Schneiderlin performing well and we know what we get from Carrick.

Hopefully be quite a few goals tomorrow dinner.

Watford are quite the entertaining watch thus far and should be buzzing coming off last weekend.

Pep: I'm not going to accept that it is easy because we worked hard to play this well. Bournemouth are the best team we have played in our five matches, so I am very pleased.

He was referring to the manner in which they played, suggesting his other opponents so far, United included, "just used the long ball" which a tad hypocritical considering his opening goal in the derby was as route one as you'd get.

So De Bruyne should have rejected the chance to score because it was a long ball?

No? When did I say anything like that? This has got nothing to do with De Bruyne or Kolarov (who launched the route one ball), the players have every right to do it and I don't see why some direct passes here & there should be frowned upon, I'm just saying how can Pep come out a week later and criticize that method when it was the very one that saw his side open the scoring in an ultra important game in which they only won by 1 goal a week prior? (not as if that goal didn't matter in the grand scheme of things, they only won by a single goal).

As good as a manager he is, he made a bit of a mug of himself there.

It wasn't even a criticism. It's media spin. He said that Bournemouth were the best team he's played against because all other teams played a higher proportion of balls long. United did play a higher proportion of long balls vs United therefore he was right. It's not even a dig. Guardiola highlighted that we played long balls into Giroud in order to beat the press when we beat Bayern 2-0 at home last year. Same with Jurgen Klopp who said the exact same thing after the 3-3 draw at Anfield. Opposition fans seem to see the words long ball being associated with their team as a pejorative. A good long ball is a quite legitimate way to beat a press.

General observation that's kind of related:

The majority of football fans, and pundits for that matter, need to learn the difference between a good long pass, and a hopeful long ball.

Carry on.

Right, Manchester City outplayed us in the first half last week and were overall the much better team, no shame in holding our hands up there, but we really need to bounce back with our full strength league team tomorrow. Watford are no mugs, they'll cause a lot of people trouble this season, especially the more time Mazzarri gets to work with them.

Come on lads!!! Stand up to be counted!

Exactly, and in my opinion, Kolarov's was rather hopeful, it's not like it was defence splitting (it needed Ihenacho to head it on). But it's part of the game, simple. If someone tried to dis Iceland's long throw to me, I'd tell them to **** off.

I think you've got it wrong. A long ball is the same as long pass. A clearance is different to a long ball. A clearance is when the ball is knocked away aimlessly therefore is doesn't count on passing statistics. A long ball is when a player had made a deliberate attempt to find another over a specific distance. Iheanacho was playing as a target man. Kolarov deliberately hit him and got it inch perfect. Iheanacho saw the runner and played De Britney in. It was a well worked goal to beat one of the few. United presses.
