The Manchester United Thread

The issue with Pogba and criticism is really very much the club's fault. He has always been touted as someone on the cusp of greatness with loads of potential. However his own personal image combined the sheer amount of noise that the club put out about him in their branding excercise left most people with the expectations of this being a wordclass, top 5 midfielder that was going to wreck the league. No one who watched him regularly at Juve is overly surprised by his good but slightly patchy run so far at United, but the majority of people only see huge amounts of buzz and a massive fee. He will no doubt be great in a year or two, but based on all the hype you guys put out, I would have thought he was a Neymar/Bale level player at least.
 
Says a lot about the modern age that people cant see the difference between marketing and sports.
 
It's not really a club's fault, it's Pogba's people fault, they were building that kind of brand while he was still at Juve. United didn't have much of a choice but to go with it, I'd imagine.

What are YOU on about. Inflation has square root of **** all to do with United's spending in relation to spending of other clubs in the same era.

I didn't say it was a dip, ignore the headline, the article is about branding. Fairly certain the writers don't actually write these headslines because they often don't reflect the article.

I haven't watched your games so I can't comment on how well or otherwise he's been playing but he was shocking against us. I expect he's played much better for most of the season
 
Manchester United have returned to the top of the Deloitte Football Money League for the first time in 11 years after recording the highest annual revenue for a football club in the history of the sport.

United's record revenue for the 2015/16 season of £515.3m sees them leapfrog Spanish giants Barcelona (£463.8m) and Real Madrid (£463.8m), who sit in second and third position.

The Deloitte Football Money League measures a club's earnings from matchday revenue, broadcast rights and commercial sources, and ranks them on that basis. The study does not include player transfer fees.

Dan Jones, partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte, said: "Manchester United have had to wait 11 years to regain their position as the world's leading revenue-generating club and it has taken phenomenal commercial revenue growth to help them achieve this.

"In recent years, their ability to secure commercial partnerships with value in excess of that achievable by their peers has been the crucial factor in enabling the club to regain their place at the top of the Money League.

Manchester United say they are the first sports club in England to appoint a full-time counter-terrorism manager.

The post has been filled by a former inspector from Greater Manchester Police's specialist search unit.

The appointment, revealed at a recent club forum, comes amid significant additional security measures introduced at Old Trafford on matchdays.

Vehicles are now routinely checked as they enter car parks, and supporters are searched at turnstiles.

United's Premier League game against Bournemouth in May was postponed when the stadium was evacuated after what turned out to be a fake bomb was found in a toilet.

It had been left behind in error following an exercise earlier in the week.

In November, two supporters on a stadium tour hid in an Old Trafford toilet in the hope of seeing United's Premier League game against Arsenal. They were eventually found and handed over to police.

Last year, security expert Baroness Ruth Henig called for licensing laws to be changed to force entertainment venues around the UK to undergo counter-terror training.

So what we're saying is, if you dare to be anything other than a quiet footballer, people are allowed to throw **** your way regardless of whether it's justified. Right...

Oh, at first I though it was about the video game Countre Strike. Because the Eredivisie is now gonna have the E-divisi where clubs will have an E-sporter playing for their team on FIFA I reckon. :P

Not so much 'allowed', as it is what actually does happen, whether you like it or not - I don't - and the reality is it's going to happen more for a player who embraces the attention than one who avoids the limelight
 
If a player stinks the place up and has a **** match, they get called out for having a **** match.
They don't suddenly become a **** player... But they also don't get a free pass because they played well in previous matches.

If they play fantastic in the next match? Brilliant, yay!!! We love you!!!
I don't understand why certain members seem to think a player should be immune to criticism because they played well previously?

Who the **** reviews a match performance and rates the player based on the previous 5 or 6 matches?

Lad doesn't help himself at all. Taking a frigging camera crew the barbers last week. Gegging in and being an *** on other players interviews. This is in the lead up to Utd's biggest game the year. Whether you don't mind the off-field antics or not, that's the very LAST game you want to be doing that and it's easy to see why it didn't go down well with a lot of Utd fans.

Then you're watching the game where he's stinking the joint up and there's his hashtag/ emoji flashing the hoardings all round the ground.

If you're going to put yourself out there constantly when there's no need you need to back it up in your biggest game of the season against your biggest rivals when you are your teams biggest player so people can't naturally come at you for all the non-football stuff. Most of it self inflicted.

That's the issue the media, and a lot of Utd fans, naturally have. It's not 'one' game. It's the last game and THE game.

No different to if Messi/ Ronaldo/ Bale et all did the same things and disappeared on the pitch when it counted.

That's top level football whether you like the situation or not.
