Last thing I'm adding to it. I'm not saying there aren't better players than Herrera out there that we can sign, it's just I don't see the need, as he's far from a weak link.

Ander Herrera: Tackles more, intercepts more, fouls less, and creates more than Saul (who is a very good player)

Talking about "elite" names is an utter fantasy.

At the end of the day, it's whether a player fits your side, and whether his presence lifts your side.

He does that United without doubt. And even the most hardened Liverpool fans like Scouse would rather he sat the next game out, much like I with Lallana
 
Eh, Herrera is good enough for Premier League. Sure, Premier League itself is kind of ****, but you still need to win it before you can hope to challenge in Europe. Baby steps.

Saul has created 0.7 chances per game this season, Herrera has created 1.3 chances per game.

Lots of overrated midfielders in the premier league. Kante, Matic, Herrera, Cazorla, Dier etc
 
Kante is correctly rated. Matic maybe slightly overrated. Herrera correctly rated, underrated by some. Cazorla correctly rated. Nobody really rates Dier apart from Spurs fans.
 
I'll give you one thing Damola, not many can start a debate like you :D

His positional sense is atrocious. I'd rather have Ander Herrera. Herrera is much better on the ball. Even then, I don't think he's good enough to start for United. Why do you think Chelsea are playing so much better?

Oh eye. Terrific lil' footballer. So intelligent to go along with his work ethic and tidy ability. Integral heartbeat of Mourinho's Utd in his new, deeper role this season.

That said, I'd rather he, or anyone else for that matter, played ANY day of the week than the yardog thug in boots from Belgium! I'll HAPPILY give you a loan of Messi for the day over him!
 
The premier league is tactically atrocious. 90% of premier league teams can't cope with compactness. That's why Leicester won the league last season. Premier league teams are poor at defensive transitions, slow to react to ball oriented shifts and can't cope with compactness. I'm glad Klopp, Guardiola and Conte have jointed the Premier League. Puel is a tactically competent manager who's flown under the radar. Look at analytics and statistics. Arsenal, City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Southampton are spanking the rest of the league. The scary thing is, we've had a manager that's tactically outdated.

I wholeheartedly agree. Fellaini is atrocious. Stealing a living. Herrera would be a quality squad player to keep. His starting position when United are high is excellent.
 
There's hope for the premier league though. Bayern are seeing their core (Lahm, Alonso, Ribery, Robben) decline and Luis Enrique seems **** bent on destroying Barcelona.
