He didn't get out coached. It's very hard to coach Juego De Posicion. The way Mourinho won the Champions league with Inter was a one off. Not a sustainable strategy. Even Ancelotti admits it's easier to use quick transitions on the counter attack than to coach positional play. Bayern were winning that final on another day. This is why Guardiola is the best manager in the world. Klopp, Silva, Puel, Guardiola, Pochettino, Sampaoli, Tuchel, Sarri, Allegri, Schmidt etc are all far better coaches. United can do better. I could actually point out big tactical deficiencies with United in relation to other sides.

I know United fans that are clued up and want Mourinho out. Don't think that everyone who isn't a Mourinho fan is a troll!

Hopefully he can become something decent. Who knows? Maybe he'll gain the intelligence to match his technical ability with regular minutes.
 
I don't mean to sound like a football dinosaur here Damola, but I'd much rather our attractive attacking football, even if you do think it's relying on individual talent, than to back to some philosophy that could only let us see a chance or two per game, and De Gea getting more touches than our #9.

We took that risk, wore the T-shirt. Much prefer the ride we're on now. :)

Your football is more aesthetic but it's hardly attractive. Juego de Posicion isn't a philosophy that grants 1 or 2 chances a game. Watch BVB, Napoli or Sevilla. United have bought well this summer but that's the main factor behind this season's performances. Van Gaal didn't do badly with more limited players. Marcelo Bielsa doesn't have a club and he'd take United to levels never seen before.

Outdated? You mean tactical concepts adopted and advanced by Bielsa, Guardiola, Klopp, Sampaoli, Tuchel, Sarri etc. Those coaches are hardly outdated. Van Gaal has been successful for his whole career barring his stint at United. He's the most relevant of that generation of coaches.
 
I don't think it's fair at all to say LVG was tactically outdated. The top teams are usually the most up to date with modern tactics, and LVG was not just beating them, but actually outplaying them pretty consistently. It's the outdated tactics - sit low, stay compact, counter with pace - where he struggled, ironically.

That said, he was definitely too old to take on a job like this. During his second season it was like he aged 10 years, he started out with confidence bursting out of his eyeballs, and looked like broken shell of a man those last 2-3 months. I think he overestimated his energy with respect to how many games he'll have to play in PL.

It's possible that he was fatigued. He's more modern than most modern coaches tactically. A principle of Juego de Posicion is that build-up is highly structured until the ball gets into the final third. It's the manager's job to get the players to the final third where thr players have creative freedom to break down the horizontal block. The downside is that its very hard to coach. Have no illusions, Guardiola, Klopp, Sampaoli, Sarri, Tuchel etc all have highly structured teams with little tactical freedom. They're so structured that the beautiful football looks improvised. This is why they're the best in the world.

In the position he plays he needs a consistent run in the team or at least the squad. Going from starting lineup to not even the bench from one match to the other not only is it not conducive to regaining confidence etc, its annoying!

Bielsa is a tactical innovator but he is deranged never sticks long enough in one place. And has won almost (?) nothing of note. Compare that to Mou's trophies and the result is: one ridiculous/deluded damola!

I agree it's annoying. But even when he was given a run at the star he wasn't performing and when he has in games it's not been consistent for 90 mins. He needs to sort his head out and not listen to people outside of the club.
 
To be fair, I see both points. I do get what you're saying T.O.D, but also what Manumad's saying. Martial has shown enough in the games he's played lately, to warrant a run in the team.

Bielsa's trophies are the generation of coaches he's inspired and his ideas. Nice strawman argument. I wasn't talking about Wenger although Bielsa is a far superior coach. When his Bilbao side spanked United at home and Old Trafford, it was a sign of Fergie becoming outdated. Mourinho, Wenger, Ancelotti etc can't and won't ever coach what Bielsa ever could. Guess who Guardiola calls the best manager in the world? Marcelo Bielsa. Sure he's eccentric and likes full reigns on a club, he's still one of the best of all time despite a lack of trophies. Never managed a superclub.

You surely can't trust Mourinho one bit on Martial. First Mourinho will say that the player doesn't track back, he's inconsistent etc. He'll create a field of delusion and paranoia to draw fans onto his side. Not saying that because I am not a huge fan. He's pulled this off his entire career.

Doesn't change anything I've said. He's still a limited coach. If Mourinho suddenly modernises and becomes a great coach tomorrow then maybe not so much.
