The Manchester United Thread

Seconds into the game vs Watford, I know we would lose.

This is why Guardiola and Klopp are the best managers in the world. You don't think they'd win the league with Arsenal/United's squad?

Hold on, at the start of the season City were nailed on to win the title under Guardiola, how on earth do you suddenly come to a conclusion of Pep would defo win with United? The City squad most people preferred over United's at start of season. More pundits backed City than United at start of season.

If he could do it, United would be playing like a Guardiola side. Silva has done better in a week. I've provided evidence.

Your evidence in that was Hull setting solid banks of four, Mourinho could never do that, I mean ****, he didn't prevent Liverpool from winning the league with it a few seasons ago by parking the bus?

When you 'park the bus' that is a form of positional structure, just a loose term. Positional structure can literally mean anything in terms of what you relate it to.

Might be an offensive and triggering revelation but Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the right time. He left as he was becoming tactically outdated. The best example was when Marcelo Bielsa schooled him with his Bilbao side at home and at Old Trafford. He recognised when him time was up and left on a high. You'll be delusional to believe that any manager including Mourinho for that matter stay relevant forever. Every manager has a lifespan including Mourinho for that matter. I think it's clear that he's finished. He's creating politics at United to deflect from his shortcomings. First Martial and now Klopp.

Fergie retired for a number of reasons the main one family and serious illness to his wife and the death of her sister. Nothing to do with be tactically outdated whatsoever.

Yeah City have been great this season :))))

United easily have a better squad but City have been much better. They're doing it with a keeper who hasn't made a save for a month. The poor goalkeeping is a huge variable. Considering that, they're 1 point off second with a keeper who went a month without a save and 10 points behind the leaders. They will be much better next year. They need half a new squad. The Chelsea game was a match where the keeper cost City. Bravo was world class in his prime but I think nobody saw the decline.

Juego de Position is what I'm alluding to. The brainchild of Louis Van Gaal and Marcelo Bielsa. I was generally alluding the the EFL cup match when you were outplayed by Hull. Silva played the deep block today. I think he's proven he's better at coaching.

There are plenty of articles in the footballing world highlighting Mourinho's shortcomings. It's not agenda driven. Even if I was, it doesn't change the evidence.

Very good! Seriously though, I don't care about offending anybody. Not trying to win a popularity contest. Enjoying the meltdowns tbh.

Honestly had no idea. I guess it was the narrative of leaving on a high (league win).

By your logic Damola, Wenger would always of been more successful than Fergie. Because by your logic he plays more progressive football and building from the back.

That's another myth. We're a more direct side. We have the longest kicking length in the top 6. We can't cope with a basic press. We haven't played beautiful football since 2011. Wenger likes to have no set positional structure during build-up with high levels of creative freedom. It doesn't work unless you have a world 11 (Real Madrid). Even peak Barcelona used Juego de Posicion in the best side of all time. I never claimed that it was for the sake of being "progressive". It has practical implications. E.g. players in good areas to press in defensive transition. Watch Leverkusen or Leipzig. The truth is that Wenger is a decent squad builder. 1997-2006, he relied on individual quality. Individual quality got him from the second group game to the champions league final in 2006 without conceding. He's good at improving individual player's technique but he's not a great coach.

So tell me, LVG's positional training paid dividends right? It had us playing like a guardiola side right?

Did better than Mou so far at United. He also had inferior players. Smalling, Jones, Valencia etc. are a joke in the first phase. Sometimes, United were too structured in the third because Van Gaal was obsessed with man orientations in transition. Ultimately didn't have the players.

Whatever is said, it doesn't change the reality that this is the reason United are 6th. You can take pops at everybody else and attack a strawman without addressing the point but the reality is that United will be about mocking superior clubs unless you sort this out. Interesting how Liverpool have the opposite issue.

Pogba has been regressing lately in terms of performances. People don't realize that he is basically our system so if he plays badly, we struggle. Today, we weren't clinical but if he played better, we would've created just as much chances to win the game.

Damola, your structural lecture here is nonsense. How come guardiola and klopp, the 2 best managers in the world are 4th and 5th? Structure my ***. All klopp's teams do is chase the ball and counter. Liverpool have no defined structure. Only team that has a defined structure is Chelsea.

You only have to watch this to get the basic idea.

If Klopp's team only chased on the counter, how are they above Manchester United. How are they doing it with the 6th best side in the league. Is this what it's come to? Klopp's a miracle worker. This is an absolute joke. Why couldn't West Ham properly press Man City? I could produce a myriad of evidence to prove my point. To claim that Liverpool have no positional structure is absurd. They're the best coached team in the league!

Don't believe what the mediots would have you believe. If only one player isn't doing his role in the exceptionally intricate system Klopp employs it all falls down. A counter attacking team Klopp's L'pool most certainly aren't. But they work their collective arses off so the lazy 'analyst' line is all they do is press teams.
