The Manchester United Thread

I keep reading Utd on course for their lowest league goal haul for 26 years so I guess that 100 thing can be framed however anyone wants to. Shrugs.

We've already outscored our league tally last season, with 3 games left?

Perennial issue with the braindead mongs at UEFA, but with all the massive capacity stadiums around Europe, why there's not a rolling list every year of the biggest ones they can turn to for a final I'll never get. They'd doubtless argue if Lyon and Vigo had made it Stockholm's more than adequate. But a stadium with a capacity under 50K with just 10K officially going to either club is criminally unacceptable. Utd, for once, can't win on that however they chose to distribute the tickets. It's all down to the dimwits at UEFA. Which then leads to so-called 'neutral sections' being mixed, defeating that whole objective, as people snap them up any way they can.

'For the Fans' my pasty white ****!

Then there's some very ill-informed journalists out there.

Which is no real surprise today.

*Edit* Seriously, is fact checking hard when they put something out? A quick look just now and if you don't score 7 the last 3 it will be your second lowest in that time frame. Only last years 49 and '04/'05's 58 are the other two times you've tallied under 60 the last quarter of a century. WAY too much of a reliance on the Swedish dude. The misses most clubs could cite at various points through the year.

*Double Edit* Maybe I'd read that last before the Burnley game the other week? But regardless, the point still stands that most journalists today are ill-informed beauts!

Blue to me just now .....

'Watched Utd last night lad. They were f-ing grim. ***** way to hobble into a final that. Stockholm be ***** too and will cost the twats an arm and a leg.'

There speaketh a man who has no comprehension of a European away or getting to a European final. Because he's never been on either! Like your arsed how yers get there? Final whistle goes last night you're ecstatic then either in town celebrating or racing home getting a jump on flights and rooms.

Everton. Like City down the road. Small club in a big City. Idiot.

He's probably jealous that his team aren't going to a final of any sort ;)

I hope the finals are going to be a great game. There's some Ajax history in the ManU squad with Zlatan, Blind and Fosu Mensah.

I believe a year or 2 ago Ajax and United played against eachother aswell in a KO-round of the Europacup? Not sure, but I thought United won it over 2 legs.

And this year in the group stages United played against Feyenoord and didn't have it easy. Should be a tight game!

If I'm honest, I'm most scared of Jose's tactics (from an Ajax POV). He has so much experience with winning trophies. But by looking at the squad and the form ManU is in atm, they aren't as terrifying as they used to be.

feeling much more optimistic about the final after watching ajax last night

I'm sure they are if they've been watching Utd limp through the knock-outs. First leg away at Vigo aside you've been pretty darn **** poor. But again, results are all that ultimately matter in straight knock-out footie.

You definitely need to play De Gea. It'll be a ***** trick on Romero after he's played 10 straight in Europe or whatever it is but when everything's on the line, as he's made this game, then you have to play your strongest side. Could do with getting a couple early too like the League Cup Final. You know he's just gonna' bunker in and you'd think Ajax would be much stronger second half. Much easier to hang on with a 2 goal cushion then panicking with one.

A lot on the line for both clubs in that final, it's going to be nervy!

Would prefer De Gea to be honest, but you can't really do that now, would be horrible on Romero.

There's an interesting debate on de Gea the latest UWS pod (Don't judge. It's always entertaining and good to hear the views of match going Utd fans. Plus most are normal Manchester lads who grew up and got their footie education through the times I did so it's easy to identify) I'm listening to my dinner right now from straight after the game last night.

DEFO NSFW!

Not saying I see Romero being dropped, but if I were the manager, I'd give Romero the remaining league games and play DDG in the final. Not much difference in playing youth & squad players in early EFL Cup rounds only to drop them at the business end with and replace with a full strength XI.

It's doing right by the club, not sentiment for individuals.

If De Gea future wasn't up in the air there might of been a small chance. But I can't see Mourinho dropping Romero for the final after being fantastic in the EL. Also 8-10k allocation for Utd fans is a fecking joke!

That's put an end to that then. As I thought Mourinho confirms that Romero will start final.

I seriously don't understand why he'd put not just himself but the club at risk there? Or why he's played him through the knock-outs to this stage to put himself in this position?

de Gea F-s up the final, well, it is what it is and that's on de Gea. Utd went their best team regardless.

Romero F-s up the final, and the spotlight and serious questions immeadiately (and rightly) goes on the manager for not playing arguably the best and safest goalie the World in a game he's putting EVERYTHING on. I don't get why Mourinho would chance that nor why he's backed himself into a bad corner with how he's played the keeper situation this run when he has that World class option and theres no need?

Risky gamble that wouldn't sit comfortable with me if both those guys were at my club. With so much at stake, play your strongest side regardless.

Sevilla managed to do it last season playing the back up keeper and wining it. If Romero is taken out for just the final and De Gea makes an error then everyone would be asking why did Mourinho drop Romero for De Gea when Romero had made no errors and got the side to the final. Also I would say the reason for playing Romero earlier is to keep him sharp in case De Gea got injured. Given that he has played in 2 copa america finals and one world cup final with all of them going to extra time and only let one goal in I think he can handle the big matches well enough to start

Don't See the problem he's been great when played. Made crucial saves to keep us in it. And think he has 11-16 clean sheets.
