The Manchester United Thread

Not sure where you got that. Reputed Chelsea sources all saying its £40m rising to £45m. Chelsea will never have sold him for less particulary with Juventus also very interested.
The breakdown of Matic to @ManUtd fee is £35m down + £5m in 'easily achievable' add ons. Club expect to pay full amount@SimonStoneBBC

Nemanja Matic completes move from #CFC to #MUFC. Three-year deal with option for another season. Initial £35m fee, could rise to £40m

Understand fee for Matic is actually £35m plus £5m add ons. #mufc #cfc

Fee for Matic is £35m down with an additional £5m in add-ons.

Exactly the sort of role where he has shown so much inconsistency over the past two seasons. Nowhere near the uproar among Chelsea fans as compared to when we sold Mata. Also he was your third or fourth choice target for a reason...

Frustration is more among Chelsea fans because we provided a rival with a solution without seemingly having signed a replacement of our own.

Second choice after Dier, I know which one I'd prefer.

And has he not mostly been playing in the heart of a 2 over the past few seasons? I think he'll be the anchorman of a 3

Reputed Chelsea journos all saying minimum £40m. In line with reports over the past month that Chelsea only willing to sell for £40m and above. Thats why the transfer dragged on for so long because Woody refused to cave in until now. You can choose what you want to believe. Even £35m represents an excellent deal for Chelsea as it effectively pays for Bakayoko.

5m is here nor there tbh. Delighted with the signing and will fill a key possition with quality we've been lacking.

Also, Jose is superb at second season tweaks. If he feels Matic was worth paying £40M for and that's the profile needed to improve us, that that only adds confidence on top of me being already happy with the signing in general.

This inevitable pointless conversation after a Chelsea player signs for United.

Chelsea fan: Great deal for us.

United fan: Great deal for us.

The end.

Third choice/Fourth choice after Dier, Fabinho and possibly Bakayoko. He has been inconsistent in both a 2 and a 3 over the past two seasons at Chelsea. Only has been expected to play a limited role especially with Kante alongside him. As I keep saying, good player but inconsistent and limited. Not fussed about losing him. More fussed that we solved a problem for United.

Matic is a lot more vital to Utd than he was at Chelsea; "One man's trash is another man's treasure". Chelsea have a solid defensive system and are very hard to break down, United are a little more open as a whole and could do with an intelligent, physical presence sitting at DM.

Sounds exactly like Bakayoko tbh. Only advantage is he's younger obviously so can get that sorted.

Plus. Matic has been the staple of your midfield for your last two league-winning campaigns. Say what you like about his consistency but he's an experienced winner. Something United dressing room will only benefit from after losing the likes of Rooney, Schweinsteiger and Ibrahimovic.

Dier was literally the only player we made a bid for. Fabinho was a crying out for United to come get, we didn't. I think it's strange how we didn't, but Mourinho obviously doesn't fancy something or there's something more to it. There was nothing in the Bakayoko thing, as TOD said at the time, more than likely Chelsea/his agent manufacturing that spin to make it look better when they signed him/push Chelsea into the deal, even though they were the only official horse in the race, trying to please the fans after United pulled their trousers down on Lukaku. Also I think Matic is a more suited to the deep role we're after, Bakayoko a CM who gets about.

if we have a great season and matic performs he will be hailed as a great signing,if not then it will be the opposite.we will have to wait and see

Wrong 2nd choice after Dier

The same could be said of any signing a team makes.

Never really understood this revision of Matic being limited, or inconsistent. Last season wasn't his best, but he was consistent throughout

He wins the ball, he tackles, he closes down and intercepts, he passes short accurately, and is tidy at long range passing, might not go as long as Carrick as often, but carries a long range threat that Carrick does. If that's limited, then what the **** is complete?

Maybe they are trying to cover their arses like when Mata left, their 'hero' went from awesome with a range of skills to ok with limited skills.
