The Manchester United Thread

Could be managers instructions for all we know. Could easily swing it that Matic hasn't been the same since the Pogba injury too.

Personally think he has as much mileage as anyone in the entire division, and needs a deserved rest but we don't really have that luxury. Although we could give Carrick a 90 at DM, maybe away to Palace and freshen him up for the Liverpool/Sevilla double header. Feels silly saying this off the back of a top performance, as I don't think he's in bad form. It's just he was never going to keep up the levels of his first month or so, otherwise he'd be a contender for Balon dor!

Consistent 7/10, with the odd 8 in between.
Agree with all of that. Mourihno telling him to hold his position more, looks absolutely knackered come the end of games. And it’s been reported a few times he’s playing with a minor injury.

Matic is absolutely knackered and needs a rest. Hasnt helped that Carrick has had his heart trouble and can't cover him.

..... That's all you want from your DM. It's the 2nd CM of the 3, which today was McTominay, that needs to the one controlling the tempo and breaking lines. Hence why we're looking at Kroos, Weigl, Jorginho etc.

He not a DM? Know nottin' about him bar a quick mooch around after Joyce's link to L'pool last night.

Most things seemed to suggest he was. Or I presume a DLP with license to go forward as we view the Klopp 6.

Yeah he’s defo more a DLP than DM mate who ain’t bad at getting forward and creating also.

He's an intelligent passing all rounder. Would be a brilliant addition to any side

For all the criticism aimed at Mourinho about not promoting youth, he's well and truly established McTominay in your squad so deserves credit for that, especially as based on pure talent, he's hardly your biggest prospect.

What he does do is follow Mourinho's instructions to a tee, and that makes you wonder why he doesn't promote from within more often - surely younger, impressionable players are more determined to follow orders?

Good point on younger players likely being more easier to get to follow instructions. Guess it sometimes a mixture of pressure to succeed when managing a huge club. And depends on the mentality of the younger player. Think Mourinho is showing here though that if your good enough and thinks your mentality is strong enough you will get chances McTominey, Tuanzebe, TFM, Periera, Joel, Gomes, Mitchell.

Strange to think how many academy players we could have in the squad next year. Add to that the likes of Rashford, Lingard technically Pogba is still from our academy. Who would of thought that under Mourinho!

Atletico battered Sevilla 5-2, at Sevilla's home turf. They were 5-0 up too.

Confident we will win fairly comfortable at our place. Got the right formation now. Confidence will be high plus Bailly back. And there GS record is shocking on the road.

Just been watching the second half replay and MOTD and Matic and McTominey were absolutely fantastic that second half. Harassing making interceptions great pressing up the pitch. McTominey with some very good forward passes too.

We definitely should of showed more ambition, lets hope it doesn't cost us. if it does we only have ourselves to blame.

Seen quite a lot of Utd and other fans as well saying McTominey could well develop into a Dier from Spurs type player. Thoughts? For me he has more to his game than Dier going forward.

As when you were all over him going Utd, I've seen nothing a season on to suggest Dier isn't still a bang average footballer who works hard so he's favourably looked upon. Too many of them making major money this league.

Not someone I'd want to be compared to personally.

If he develops into a Dier type of player, I would be happy. I mean, Diers nothing special but its a 40m that can be invested somewhere else.

That the price on Dier? Man alive this crazy game.

No wonder Leicester are demanding an exorbitant fee for a lad they paid less than £500k for and the likes of Coutinho and Mbape go for mind-blowingly ridiculous fees with mediocrity costing you so much.

The markets bat S crazy mad and there's absolutely no current gauge to any players worth so F knows where it all stops?

He'll make a decent squad player so that's 20-30m we wont have to spend.

Outside of that I don't expect much of him.
