The Manchester United Thread

Anthony Martial's agent Philippe Lamboley has told RMC: "After thinking about all the possibilities... Anthony wants to leave Manchester United."#mufc

Sounds like something is in the pipe line. His agent also said he stoped talks with the club after Jan. obviously when Sanchez signed despite the club wanting him to stay.

C ya!

Very disappointing, kinda sums Martial up though for me. He's an incredible talent, but more than anything this to me shows he doesn't want to fight for his place in the side.

Kinda stating the obvious I know, but bit of a weak mentality if you ask me. There are a lot of good wide players out there, we wouldn't struggle to get one I imagine. I don't really think we necessarily need a household name, after all we already have Sanchez.

Played a full 90 mins, 6 times in the league. Jesus. 9 full games in the whole season.

still put up a goal or assist every 2 games though. Trying to find and be berated for your consistency when moved round 3 positions and hooked every 70 mins, no wonder he's had enough.

Agree with all that tbh!

Not having "weak mentality". You don't go as a record breaking teenage transfer to Manchester United, score vs. Liverpool on your debut and carry one of, if not the biggest club in the world on your shoulders in your first season in England (AS A TEENAGER) with a weak mentality.

All he's ever wanted was more minutes. Not more money; never wanted to milk the club, all he wanted were some guarantees.

He was playing so good in December/January, then we unnecessarily signed Sanchez, and once again stop-started him. Sums up his entire tenure under Jose. This is not on Martial's mentality, this is on Mourinho. He's at the stage of his career where he needs guaranteed starts to match his ability, to kick on to possible elite level.

He'll be another De Bruyne/Salah/Lukaku if Jose sells him. Personally hope he does come back to bite us if we sell him. Been nothing but patient & professional in his time here, top lad.

I said Zaha was lowkey a mistake, which has been vindicated with his development, but Martial will be a completely new level. He should be in the same bracket as Mbappe by now, not playing auxiliary wing back in support of Young (last season mainly), or warming the bench every second match (this season)

My blood is boiling tbh

There was literally no reason for Sanchez to be playing on the left, given he was supposed to replace Miki. Unless we sign Griezmann, I'll be furious

So he goes to another top club presumably, what's different? He'll be competing with at least one other good player if not two like here.

I don't ever really remember him carrying us either, bit of an overstatement that. he was good in his first season with some specific memorable moments like vs Liverpool.... but not carrying us.

Sanchez signing was questionable, but at the time most united fans wanted him. Mourinho perhaps went about it wrong, but as much as Sanchez didn't perform, nor did Martial either when he did get his chances (after Sanchez arrival).

All our attacking players second half of season bar Lukaku were mediocre.

He'll be a lot more appreciated. Lol he definitely carried us. Off the top of my head, important goals on the way to FA Cup victory (that 90th min finish vs Everton), nearly single handedly got us top 4 on the last day of the season with his brace, only for us to bottle it vs West Ham. All of these big moments whilst being our go-to player throughout the entire season. Beat men at will, created, scored, he was sensational. I remember thinking, we've got a player with Ronaldo levels of potential. Unfortunately, Jose hasn't developed him.... shocker.

He didn't perform because he was stuck out right wide for Sanchez, the poor performances were inevitable, and gave Jose the perfect excuse to scapegoat and drop him again. But you've got a bad memory if you don't remember the form he was in prior to signing Sanchez.

Aug- Jan.
10 goals and 11 assists
3 MOTM awards

Anyway, it's pointless debating about it. Whatever's going to happen will happen. He's making the right decision for him & his career, I just hope we have a buy-back clause for when Jose's meltdown comes.

Form early this season he was on fire, think he reached double digits in assists and goals before January, more than Hazard at the time. But I thought you were on about his first season anyway.

I agree with you anyway for the most part, Mourinho has kinda ****** him over and it has gone one step too far this time.

Remember when Ibrahimovic just strolled in and took his shirt number?

Still, I hope he stays regardless, Mourinho won't be here for much longer anyway. Woody should tell him that secretly.

We have a unilateral one year extension, we should use it. Unless we're getting Griezmann, or using him to get Sandro, I'm not sure if there is anyone else I want.

Signing Sanchez was the right call, playing him on the left was not, he's been ***** there and Martial hasnt played.

Where does Griezmann even fit in though Mike? He is pretty versatile, and would do a job across the front line, but to me he seems to specialize as a striker in a 4-4-2, or 10 in a 4-2-3-1, two systems I can't see us playing much or at all next season. He'd probably be decent as an inside right winger, but not sure if it's his best role.

For me, we should've just went for Bale or Mahrez instead of Sanchez.

Can't help but feel Sanchez was a bit of a panic buy. A chance to inject quality into your squad in the build up to CL knockouts, get one over on Pep, and think about where he fits/how he effects other players later. His (perceived) inability to operate on the right makes him look a bit of a silly purchase at this stage, as we needed a right winger, not left. We were sorted there with Tony.
