The Manchester United Thread

I'm really liking Chong so far! Strong, fast and wants the ball all the time!

edit: As I wrote it this Chong whips in a great cross to Herreras diving head who hits the post and the rebounds goes to Mata who scores!

Get in there! Great play by Chong. Herrera header hits the post Mata strokes home the rebound. That run by Chong :)

Lol I think a McTominey injured himself with the attempted bicycle kick. Yeah Red gonna be some player. Tuanzebe and Gomes on for Mata and McTominey.

Ah well, good overall performance with the players available. Big plus for Chong, very exciting player!

Chong looked really good when he came on, couldn’t have done much better.

Also never seen sponsors on the side of the socks like America were rocking Mexican clubs certainly don’t waste any shirt space

Pretty good first friendly. 1st half looked good nice 1/2 touch good movement and pace in our play. Second half they took over and looked a lot fitter! Then the subs came Chong, Greenwood and we started to take over again and equalised. Shaw, Periera, Chong all impressed.

Tfm did well but needs to work on his composure and not hoof it unnecessarily when he has more time than he realises. Bailly got worse as the match went on. Herrera worse player on the pitch imo. Grant with a couple of good saves. Result means nothing will only get sharper from here.

Mourinho has said after the game that Sanchez will defo play on Sunday. McTominey and Martial are fine after there knocks. And was impressed with Periera playing deep. And had huge praise for Chong.

Shaw in today's match was playing like how Shaw plays on FM. Overall, pretty good. Rather excited for Chong and Gomes, it's always good to have youth coming through the ranks.

Tosin Kehinde looks set to leave after failing to get guarantees about first team football. And rejected the latest contract offer. Going on trial next week at Brann in Norway.

And Utd play today at 5 against Celtic in the SuperCup:NI will be available on the BBC app. A mixture of u16/18s

What is it with some of these youngsters, they seem unable to wait for a chance especially once they start training with the first team! Not everyone is as lucky as Rashford or as skilled as Giggs, Scoles etc. Lingard has proven recently that patience gets rewarded, but some players expect it to happen straight away it doesn't happen like that you need to either be an outstanding talent or lucky. That said fair play to Kehinde if he thinks Norwegian football is the right level for him to get games at this point in his career, however, I suspect a little word from his agent maybe what has really brought about this wish to leave.

Dont get what’s gone on with Kehinde. I’m sure it’s his agent. Lots of talk since the end of season going to Barca, other clubs in Spain and Italy. Lol now he is off to Norway. Well played his agent trying to get him a better contract failing miserably. Shame the lad was rated and club wanted to keep him. Was a regular for the u23s last season and played pretty well tbh. But he or his agent are in no way in a position to demand things I read about.

He he is a decent player atm and sure he will get better. But he’s no stand out talent.

Just watching Utd in tour. Great to see the u12s been invited out there with the first team and Jose chatting with them. While the out there playing in an indoor tournament. Must be great experience for them.

Andreas Periera interview was good! Saying he wanted to go out last season to get valuable playing time and experience but more importantly improve his maturity. Said Mourinho wanted him to stay and be a part of the squad and was a little disappointed. But gave him the loan move and had no hard feelings and kept in constant contact throughout his loan spell giving him advice.

Also said he had a meeting with Jose as soon as he got back. Jose asked him where he would like to play. And Periera said anywhere you need me this season. Mourinho said he thinks he could be a great ball playing No6. He’s had Carrick helping him a lot every training session even after training.

Herrera: “I am also very surprised about Garner. Angel also has a lot of quality and the striker (Greenwood), I didn’t know he was 16 years old and he was fighting against men, so I am very confident and I hope one day that they kick our *** out of the club.” #mufc [Guardian]

Bill Rice who I think works for the BBC is reporting that Utd are still in talks for a CB, hard working RW and a marquee signing

Pretty good first half under the new manager. 0-0 atm but the style of play is pretty much same as Mckenna. Playing out from the back, pressing high and nice quick transition to attack. Players very rusty especially the passing. Celtic well on top first 15 mins where they hit the bar. But despite that Mengzi, Laird, Williams and especially Dishon were great limiting there chance. And all good at playing out from the back. Both FBs offering width getting forward. Laird been fantastic still can’t believe he’s just 16. Absolute pace to burn great at dribbling also fantastic in defence.

After Celtic period of dominance Levitt and Traore started to dominate CM. Traore like Pogba just has stardom written all over him. Physically imposing, technique, passing has it all. More defensive minded than Pogba. Barlow been quite. Ramanzani been lively but poor end product so far. Burkart the same. Mellor upfront been pressing great and doing well holding the ball up.

Closest we we can to scoring was from Levitt hitting the post from a curling effort from the left wing. And Laird drawing a fantastic fingertip save from a guided effort from the resulting corner.

So close Laird bursting from the right gets threaded through by Burkart then keeper denies him with another great save. 1-0 Utd Laird gets his goal great play from the corner cross gets whipped in Laird gets it on the left. Beats 2 defenders and slots it into the bottom right corner :)

Subs- McGhee in for Mellor, Burkart now up top. GKs swap Cairny for Thompson.
Sub- Williams off injured Ollie Denham comes on for his u18s debut 65mins.

GOAL!@ManUtd take the lead against @CelticFC thanks to Ethan Laird's solo effort

Sub- Levitt off for talented attacking player Elanga 71min. Wow Celtic miss 2 great chances 1 from a quick corner and a free header from a cross. **** 1-1 goal was coming bit of pinball in our box ball falls to there new sub. **** it. 2-1 to Celtic GK kicks it straight to there player who scores from a deflection from Bernard who tried to get back. Subs have killed our momentum.

Subs- Debuts for Hockhenhall and McCann on for Mengi and Ramanzani. Can’t believe Puigmal hasn’t featured. Elanga misses a great headed chance. Celtic got us straight on the counter and get a 3rd. Really poor last 18 mins from us! :(

Finished 1-3 Celtic. Good first 70 mins. Terrible last 20 mins. Really disappointed with how we fell to pieces late on after the subs. Good experience for a very young team.

Might be his agent, can we stop with vilifying players who barely have few years of schooling for enlisting legal help when negotiating with a multi-billion corporation? They're kids, if it wasn't for agents, clubs would pay them in bicycles and KFC coupons.

Great news. Just watching Utd in Tour and Martial and McTominey are both in full training and Sanchez there to. Confirmed that Rojo, Matic, Lindelöf, Fred, DDG will all be there from early this week.
