The Manchester United Thread

Last season? Not really. You forget we kept only 3 clean sheets for the first half of last season?
As a season in a while we still had one of the best defensive records as a whole joint second I think it was so yeah it was working.

Why are the trolls leaving their lairs?

Ok. First goal, what the F, both Maguire and De Gea. You can't play high line with Maguire, DCL isn't the quickest player yet he left Maguire behind in dust with ease. And De Gea with that soft parry. You need to box the F those out of penalty area.
Second goal, after some comical defending, really nice goal from James.
And third goal...spineless defenders. And Maguire yet again at it. Like get him out of defense or defend DEEPER. He's a Titanic, colossal in his appearance yet sinks so easily. Buy a freaking defender and put Maguire as a DM as a replacement for Matic.

I was reading somewhere this morning that both Maguire and Linderlof started off as DMs in there academy days.

I would put Maguire on the bench honestly. For a such 'exquisite' ball playing defender, his passes are way to heavy. He puts so much pressure on his teammates. Like he only has one gear when deciding how strong he should pass the ball. But he's 80m or whatever defender and there's no chance in **** he'll end up on the bench. He's a liability unless you're playing Liverpool or City and you sit in your box for most of the time. Lindelof is OK as a defender, he's good at reading the game and decent enough in everything else. Same as Bailly who has freakish athleticism but lacks brain from time to time, and the worst thing is - he's so, so injury prone. They both need another defender to hold their hand.

Or you could build a system that masks those weaknesses while amplifying their strengths...

I guess it's worth pointing out this key fact: The defence is good enough if all we're targeting is a top 4 finish. Conceding 36 in 38 games isn't really a title winning defence.

I thought you hate Mourinhoball?

Topical as we played them Wednesday, but Brighton's a great example of a really well organised team out of possession, who always play a very attacking, expansive game with the ball.

Even with your obvious deficiencies personnel-wise, a better coached/ organised side wouldn't be throwing away the game like Utd did last night.

You need to go back to your lair.

But in case you're not trolling - Brighton sat deep in their box when Liverpool had the ball, and then counter-attacked when Liverpool's crosses hit the first man. Similar to United game where Liverpool lost as well with their "amazing football" and "better coached side".

Who says I'm suggesting we park the bus?
Because sitting deep against 90% of the teams is what you get if you want to reduce ( not eliminate!) Maguire's weakness. It's such a glaring weakness, it's so hindering.

Oh, we're back to being petty and anything not remotely positive on Utd being perceived trolling. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Sound. I'll leave you to your playground games. Enjoy your afternoon mate.

Brighton created more chances with 4 shots on target compared to liverpool's one

Brighron didn’t come and sit at all. They never do under Potter. Well organised no question. But they played an expansive, attacking, passing game. The goal they scored was a superb team move reminiscent of this current L’pool side in its pomp. All they lack is money to buy better quality or else they’d be pushing top 10.

Out of the last 6 at Anfield (Wolves. Tottenham. West Brom. United. Burnley. Brighton.) , Brighton were by far the most adventurous who came to play football.

But I can’t concentrate on the game and type as well so I’’m dipping out HT at least haha.

All this talk and IMO one CB to cover Maguires obviously huge weakness solves all this. Well not sure about the GK problem!

This is true. I'm still not fogiving OGS for choosing such cowardly tactics.

So, how would you fix Maguire's inability to play the high line?

We have a league winning attack.
This is also wrong view. Our and SOU game inflated your goals a lot. You are scoring goals and Bruno is class with the ball, never will deny these things.

But remove him and the Jenga tower will fall. This is where you need some system from bottom to top and have everyone contributing. Ole relies so much on player brilliants. Cavani is 33, beast of a player but might give one good season more if he extends. Martial seems like soulless player who is lost or just found out. Rashford is class but overplayed and stressing a lot definetly with making UK better place by helping out(amazing man, but things take toll on best of us). Donny needs more game time, lad is intelligent player but saying all the time that needs to get use to PL footy and tactics...

Btw that last goals. It seems firstly they did not try to play offside trap, so Harry moving is does not sound that brainddead, even though he might assister onside. But bigger issue was guys in front of him who did not went after theyr guys, they played so static and stayed in line. IT IS THE LAST SECOND, play until the whistle. Also last 2-3 minutes mind boggeling seeing De Gea and AWB bulleting ball forward just to lose the ball.

Team has foundation, sell some and upgrade them. But Ole will not make it happen unless you go nuts and hitjack pot with some big name/price players.

Simple play him with a pacy CB like Baily. We played a higher line with those 2 together I remember it being pointed out on motd. It’s about the partnership not the individual with the cbs. You can go through utds history. We have had great partnership going back to palister and Bruce but both had floors same with Ferdinand and vidic. The best complete all round cb we had was Stam who could do it all.
