After the collapse of my attempt at the Champions League Challenge, I've decided to start a save with Porto as I really enjoyed the one I had in FM11. I believe they have a much weakened team from the one that Mourinho won the Champions League with back in 2004, so I'm going to attempt to bring European glory back to Estadio do Dragao.

Overall I'm fairly pleased with the opening two months, I could be a little disappointed in the defeat against Benfica but I'm just glad we got them out of the way early on and that we wont have to play the return game at the end of the season. Rodriguez has been in superb form scoring 7 goals in 8 games, just hope he continues with it.

Although I don't like Porto (Benfica fan), I think that Portugal has one of the best leagues to play in FM. Competitive, good young players and good challenges to achieve. It's good to see stories about our league :)

Good luck!

Sounds interesting, though there's no way Mourinho's squad at Porto was significantly better than it is atm. They have got some of the best players in the world.

Not quite sure how we lost to Rio Ave and it might just cost us at the end of the season. Juventus scored the winner in the 94th minute which is really disappointing as we deserved at least a point. I didn't realise the game against Lousada was in the cup so I sent out a relatively strong side.

Another defeat in the league leaves us 4 points behind the leaders which at this stage isn't a disaster but I would rather be at the top. A win by 2 goals or more against Juventus will see us finish the group as winners and should give us an easier draw in the knock-out stages. As I was planning on offloading Lucho Gonzalez in January we have agreed a fee for a player from our main league rivals Benfica.

Hahaha. The game is a bit unrealistic in this aspect. But, apart from that, he's a great signing. Can make easily 25+ assists in one season.

good work you've been done there :)

A defensively solid month, 5 games played and 5 clean sheets. Varela's staking his claim to stay in the starting line up with the imminent arrival of Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica. We were unable to beat Juventus so we finished 2nd in the group and have been drawn against Real Madrid in the Knock-out stage.

A great month sends us top after Benfica slipped up countless times. We only need two wins from the remaining 3 games, simple. It was a great sight to see James Rodriguez back on the score sheet after being out for 2 months through an injury he picked up during the 1st leg against Real Madrid. A simple win over Academica sends us into the final against Nacional da Madeira.

A complete disaster, if we had drawn against Sporting we would have claimed the title, and we should have, John Guidetti missed a pen in the 85th minute.

Season Summary

We won our first trophy of the season in the Supertaca after beating Academica 2-1 after extra time thanks to goals from Lucho Gonzalez and the extra time winner from James Rodriguez.

We started the league campaign with the hardest possible start, away to Benfica in which we fell down to them and was beaten 1-0. As the season went on we couldn't outdo our rivals Benfica and Sporting, every time they slipped up, we would fail to clinch the 3 points that would see us go top. When we finally made it to the top we were within touching distance of the title when we became over confident after winning 7 on the bounce. Needing only 2 wins from the last 4 games 1 in which was against our title rivals Sporting, we decided to become impotent in front of goal and we blew it. Finishing 3rd means we have to go through the champions league play-offs.

We were cruising through the league cup until we met Benfica where we succumbed to defeat. We were completely destroyed by them with us having 9 shots to their 25.

Getting drawn against Real Madrid was a little unfortunate although if we had topped the group we would have faced Barcelona. I thought we had gained a well earned draw in the 1st leg when Lucho showed nerves of steel to slot home a penalty in the 89th minute, that was not to be though as Cristiano Ronaldo dribbled the full length of the pitch and smashed the winner past Helton in the 2nd minute of injury time. 2nd leg we were completely outclassed by Ronaldo and co and was beaten 3-1 in the Spanish capital. Chelsea went on to beat Man City 6-1 in the final.

Pre-Season

Quite a few changes made for the new season, I'm still going to be using the same tactics. I've brought in some new staff to hopefully improve my leaky defense from last season. There were also some big name players leaving this summer as I attempted to bring back a former Legend. More about the transfers later.

Transfer News

As I was only given a budget of £4.21m I had to sell before I buy. As I was looking through the transfer listed players I came across this chap
View attachment 306860
Falcao £27.5m

I made it clear to the press that I was interested in signing him and he responded by saying he would love to join Porto, so I made a bid for him worth £27.5m and it was accepted the only downfall is that he wanted £125k a week so I withdrew negotiations until I could free up some money.

Abdoulaye - £725k
Steven Defour - £4.2m
Jorge Fucile - £7.5m
Nicolas Gaitan - £13m
Leonard Kweuke - £8.5m
Total - £36m

I made a new bid for Falcao and a few days later i received news that it had been rejected and that they now wanted £39m due to Chelsea and Barcelona lodging bids for him. In the end he decided to join Chelsea, so that left me with a few holes to plug in my team.

Hmmm could be a tough group to progress from I think it will all depend on how we fare against Valencia home & away.

Juventus 0-1 Porto
Nani

We really need to start beating the likes of Sporting & Benfica if we are to win the league this season. I thought we were firing them in this season but look at Benfica 27 goals from 6 games, looks like they could be the ones to beat this season. Might see if I can poach Cardoza off them.

Tough group there mate but you have a chance. Need to pick up the league against the bigger teams.

A good solid month, especially in Europe the own goal from Valencia came from our former full back Jorge Fucile, bet he wasn't pleased to be back. It was an extremely tight game against Benfica, Nani looked to have sent us through in the 66th minute but then they equalized in the 91st min sending it to extra time. Thankfully we stayed strong enough to power on through to the next round.

*Just a quick mention about Falcao, he finally scored his 1st Chelsea goal after going an incredible 16 hours without doing so*

Another short but productive month in the league. 2 wins out of 2 and 10 goals scored, I cant complain. A little disappointed in the defeat against Juventus as we matched them throughout the game, every time they scored we equalized until Lukaku decides to fluff his spot kick to level the scoreline for the 4th time.

An unbeaten month sees us progress in 2 different competitions along with keeping the pressure on Benfica in the league. Lukaku keeps up his knack of scoring this season grabbing 7 goals in 5 games. We've been given another difficult draw in the champions league... Last years runners up Man City, it's becoming clear that nobody wants to see us lift the trophy.

Gutted about the defeat to Academica as they only had 1 shot on target to our 17, as we lost Benfica only managed a draw so yet again we couldn't take advantage. Lukaku now has 29 goals in 32 games. We put one foot in the final of the Taca de Portugal with a 4-1 win over rivals Sporting. We've also progressed in the League cup, the draw hasn't been made yet.
Nothing to report on the transfer front as only 1 player left on loan.
