Semi Final

Porto 1-1 Maritimo

After the defeat against Olhanense our title dream is all but over for the 3rd season in a row. Pato played the full 90 minutes for the 1st time this season due to injuries, i'm thinking of off loading him in the summer due to his poor fitness.

Is was always going to be a tough game against Spurs. We had an early goal disallowed in both legs that might have swung things the other way.

Into our 3rd final in a row to face Benfica.

Premier League

Porto 3-0 Feirense

Danilo, Kolarov, Demir

Porto 2-0 Vit. Setubal
Markovic, Demir

Nacional da Madeira 2-0 Porto

Taca de Portugal

Final

Benfica 0-1 Porto
Rolando

We couldn't even finish the season with a win. Big changes are needed for next season, I can't see my contract being renewed unless we win the league.

Winning the Taca de Portugal is becoming a formality as its the 3rd season in a row.

Pre-Season

The Transfers

View attachment 309783

Peralta & Acosta were arranged a couple of seasons back and will hopefully challenge for a first team place in the next season or two. Camporese & Sakho were brought in to bulk up and give my defense more depth. Florenzi will give Rodriguez a fight for his first team place. Nasri was a strange one really as I don't need anymore AMC but I thought if I don't play him then i'll just sell him on and make a nice profit. Keane & De Silvestri were brought in just as back up players really.

We sent out a few youth players to gain first team experience and to hopefully fulfill their potential.

A good solid pre-season as some of my younger players even managed to get on the score sheet.

*August update is on the way*

Going to try a different layout

We got off to a good start in the 9th minute as Ramires connected with a volley from a headed clearance by Insua. We were not in front for long though as Nicolas Otamendi brought down Mak inside the penalty area, up stepped Van Wolfswinkel to slot in the equalizer. Thats the way it stayed for the rest of the 90 mins and then the 30 minutes of extra time that followed. Missed penalties from Demir & Rodriguez ensured Sporting walked away with the trophy.

Rodriguez gave us the lead in the 22nd minute after Galatto parried a powerful shot from Pato straight into his path. Our defenders gave away another penalty when Sakho upended Soudani, Ascues was there to score from the spot to make it 1-1. Markovic picked the ball up inside our own half and powered his way through to put us back in front. We extended the lead further when Rodriguez whipped in a corner to be matched by a bullet header from the on loan Will Keane. 7 minutes before time Addy pushed Markovic in the box and for the second time in the game the referee pointed to the spot, up stepped Lukas Podolski to make it 4-1. Ascues scored a second in the 86th minute but there was no way back for Guimaraes at this stage.

View attachment 3098124-0View attachment 309833

It was a dull first half with nothing happening apart from Fernando getting booked in the 31st minute. The real game started in the second half, Pato gave us the lead in the 54th minute after he got free of the last defender and coolly slotted it past the keeper. Demir doubled our lead from the spot after Keane was brought down in the 74th minute. Ramires made it 3-0 with just under 10 minutes left and there was no way back for Beira-Mar. Sakho completed the scoreline with a powerful header from a Demir corner.

View attachment 3098491-4View attachment 309812

Another great performance from us. Pato opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a great header from a pin point cross from Podolski. Pato doubled his tally 10 minutes later to make it 2-0. Otamendi made it 3-0 when he found himself in the right place at the right time. Pato wasn't to get his hat-trick as he limped off just after the break, Nasri grabbed his first goal since signing on a free to make it 4-0 with just short of half an hour left to play. Jorge Goncalves scored to prevent us keeping a clean sheet.

Considering how important this game was, it was one of the most dullest games I've ever managed. Podolski scored the only goal of the game as he ran onto a through ball by Aleksandar Kolarov and rounded the keeper. Hopefully the second leg will be more entertaining.

View attachment 3098125-2View attachment 309870

A much more entertaining game than the first leg. Dembele gave us an early lead before Podolski made it 3-0 on aggregate, Lachaud scored for Brugge to give his side a glimmer of a chance of progressing. Goals in the second half from Markovic & Rodriguez put the tie beyond doubt before Mununga scored to make it 4-2 on the night. Podolski scored his second to complete the rout in the 85th minute. Onto the best placed playoff round now where we face tough Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv.

Best Placed Playoff

View attachment 3098850-2View attachment 309812

The Card happy referee was the main talking point after the game as he produced no fewer than 12 yellow cards during the game, including 2 to our German winger Lukas Podolski meaning he will miss the return leg. Pato opened the scoring with a well placed shot just past the half hour mark. After going down to 10 men Florenzi doubled our lead with just seconds left on the clock to all but book our place in the champions league group stages.

View attachment 3098122-3View attachment 309885

The scoreline really doesn't do us justice as we controlled the opposition from start to finish. Man Utd loanee Will Keane gave us the lead inside 20 minutes but that only lasted less than a minute as Kyiv soon equalized through Vida to make it 3-1 on aggregate. Varela made it 4-1 just past the 30 minute mark and by now it was more than a mountain to climb for the Ukrainian side. Despite their best efforts in the second half Dynamo Kyiv were unable to score the amount they needed to progress.

*This is our group for the champions league*

A very lackluster performance from the lads, we still seem to be having problems finishing are chances. We had several chances in the first half with the best falling to Markovic who somehow fired wide from 6 yards out.
Pato picked up another knock 10 minutes into the second half but he was able to shake it off. Pato showed his recent fitness change and raced away from the defense to score his 5th league goal of the season.

View attachment 3100686-0 View attachment 310071

We had no problems with our finishing today. Markovic had three chances inside the first 22 minutes in which the third was converting to make it 1-0, Pato double the lead 10 minutes later. Ramires was stretchered off a minute before half time with a potentially serious injury. We started the second half much the same as the first, chances after chances. Pato struck the post with a long range effort and Podolski was there to knock in the rebound. Markovic grabbed his second of the game after he was found by a great from Nasri. Markovic sealed his hat-trick with a volley from a tight angle. The win was completed when Florenzi tucked away our 6th of the game.
*Ramires out for 2 weeks*

View attachment 3100741-1 View attachment 310068

Another game in which we failed to convert our many chances. James Rodriguez scored his third goal of the season in what was a very boring first half. Just past the hour mark Nicolas Otamendi thought we were looking too comfortable so he decided to put the ball in the back of his own net. This gives Sporting the upper hand at this early stage in the season.

For 81 minutes we defended really well and we looked set for a point in the opening group game, that was until Michael Bradley had different ideas as he made it 1-0 to the Italian side. 3 minutes later it was 2-0 as Howedes powered in a header from a Marchisio corner. Marchisio then rounded of the victory for Juventus as he scored a curling effort from 30 yards out.
* Sevilla beat Stuttgart 6-0 in their game*

View attachment 3100682-2 View attachment 310091

Not a bad result considering their opening game scoreline, we fell behind after Hernandez nodded home a Reyes corner in the 10th minute. Will Keane started his first game since the second leg against Dynamo Kyiv and repaid me as he equalized on 33 minutes. We fell behind again on the stroke of half time as Negrado scored from the spot after Otamendi clattered into Perotti. It was left to 22 year old Keane again to get back into the game as he beat Diego Lopez in the air to bury his header past the helpless keeper.

Things didn't start well for us as Kolarov had to go off after picking up a knock in the 1st minute. We did however take the lead in the 23rd minute as Dembele flicked on a clearence by our keeper Renan Ribeiro, onto Pato who finished sublimely he's showing me why we're paying him £97k a week. Danilo picked up a knock late in the first half but was able to carry on. 10 minutes into the second half, Viola broke free into our box before being pulled down by Danilo, the right back was shown his second yellow card then the red. Up stepped Wolfswinkel to covert the penalty just as he had in the Supertaca at the beginning of the season. Least its not a defeat.

View attachment 3102234-0View attachment 310227

We had 5 great chances inside the first 10 minutes and it looked like it was going to be another one of those frustrating games. Until Podolski seized upon a lapse in concentration by the Setubal defense and tucked away his 6th of the season. Keane made it 2-0 6 minutes later after smashing it into the top right corner after a superb ball by Florenzi. Otamendi made it 3-0 after a further 6 minutes with a fine header from an Acosta corner. Acosta himself got his name on the score sheet when he picked up a loose ball on the edge of the opposition box and drilled it into the bottom corner to complete the big win.

View attachment 310241 1-4 View attachment 310223

We fell behind to a Mihelic goal on the half hour mark before Pato had his shirt pulled inside the box to win us a penalty, Demir dispatched the spot kick to make it 1-1. with 20 minutes to go Markovic picked up the ball from a Rodriguez pass and ran past 2-3 Madeira players before drilling a cross towards the back post where Podolski was there to nod home our second. 5 minutes later Pato was tripped yet again inside the box, Demir once again placed the ball on the spot... but missed as the keeper guessed the right way, luckily enough he was only able to parry it into Demir's path and so he buried the rebound. The last goal of the game came from Serbian Lazar Markovic as struck a sweet half volley from a tight angle to make it 4-1 and to extend our unbeaten league run to 9 games.

This should have been a much greater scoreline as we had 11 shots on target to their 3 but once again our forwards inability to finish when it matters let us down. Nothing really to report on as Podolski left it late to score the winner in the 90th minute.

Taca de Portugal

View attachment 3102540-6View attachment 310223

FC Famalicao from the second division north never really put up any sort of fight. I sent out a sort of second string team as I had the Stuttgart game just a few days later. Florenzi quickly opened the scoring in the 4th minute, Arda Demir doubled are lead 20 minutes later as he seized upon a mistake by the keeper. Keane made it 3-0 just before the break. Demir made it 4-0 after playing a one-two with Florenzi, Solomun made it 5 with a well timed header from a Florenzi corner. Florenzi grabbed his second tapping into an open goal in the 83rd minute to finish the game off. Florenzi had been outstanding as he grabbed 2 goals and 3 assists during the game.

*Any comments welcomed*

Our first defeat in the league, we had no excuses of we had to rest certain players as our next game wasn't for 14 days. Perez Garcia gave the away side the lead as he pounced on a rebound after Salomonsson's effort was parried. Podolski equalized with a half volley after Rolando nodded it down to him. The winner came from Danilo Dias as he intercepted Fernando's pass and drilled the ball home.

We were never really in the game and it really puts us in danger of falling out of Europe all together. Kuzmanovic opened the scoring before Ibisevic completed the scoring in the 60th minute. A lot of work to do now to qualify.

View attachment 3105341-1View attachment 310535

A solid performance from the lads, a much better performance than the first game. Marchisio gave the away side the lead with a well executed finish just before half time. Will Keane grabbed the all important equalizer as it still keeps us on course to qualify for the next round. We need a win from our final game and Juventus to beat Stuttgart.

It might not have been this straight forward had Saleiro scored his spot kick but as it was he missed, Will Keane fired us into the lead from a trademark Florenzi cross. 3 minutes later Matij Solomun doubled our lead after pouncing on a rebound, Rodriguez made it 3-0 in first half injury time. Keane bagged his second as he ran onto a through ball from Demir and tucked neatly into the corner, he was there again with 15 minutes left to go to head home his hat-trick.

View attachment 3105345-1 View attachment 310549

Another great performance in the cup, Podolski fired the ball into the 6 yard box where Pato was there to apply the finish. Caraglio equalized for Vicente on the 19th minute mark. Otamendi put us back in front with a volley from a tight angle, Rodriguez made it 3-1 just before the break, Pato scored his second and our 4th. Rodriguez also scored his second just a few minutes later. We are now 18 games unbeaten in this competition.

We overcame what could be seen as a tricky opponent as we haven't had the best of results against them in the past.
Pato gave us the lead after 19 minutes with a great volley, Solomun made it 2 when he tapped into an empty net 10 minutes before the break. Solomun wasn't finished there as he doubled his tally 2 minutes before the half time whistle. Pato was brought off after picking up a knock on the hour mark, a few minutes later Braga pulled one back through Van Der Velden. Michel pulled another one back for the home side as we looked like we were falling apart.

View attachment 3106275-0 View attachment 310632

The newcomers never stood a chance as we bombarded their goalmouth with no less than 36 shots at goal. Solomun got us off to a good start opening the scoring in the 4th minute. Demir made it 2-0 straight after the break, Solomun grabbed his second consecutive brace as he smashed it high and hard into the roof of the net. Demir also grabbed his brace in the 56th minute before Florenzi completed the game just after the hour mark.

View attachment 3106274-1 View attachment 310637

Our winning streak continues after we gave out another drubbing. Otamendi scored his fourth of the season early in the 5th minute. Nasri quickly doubled our lead 3 minutes later, Caraglio brought Vicente back into the game in the 10th minute. Podolski extended our lead further before slotting home a penalty in the 81st minute.

* I think i'm going to go back to my original layout*

3rd Phase

Maritimo 0-2 Porto
Pato, Demir

Porto 6-1 Boavista
Florenzi, Dembele, Sakho, Keane (2), Solomun

So we go out of the champions League at the group stage for the 2nd season in a row, We will be playing in the Europa league though. We've been handed probably the toughest tie of the round against Barcelona.
* I've also signed a contract with Romania*

Yeah the new layout was great with good detail but i bet you got fed up of all that typing. Unlucky draw in the Europa mate!! You sign a contract to manage Romania?

So.... played 4 won 4 conceded 0. The win over Benfica has given us a real boost with our target of winning the title this season, and hopefully becoming the main force in Portugal once again.

Unless my team succumb to the plague or something, we should have reached our 4th Taca de Portugal Cup final after a very one sided result in the first leg.

Unlike last season we progress into the semi finals of the League cup where we face Sporting.

We were having another great month in the league up until the Sporting game. That game was epic, we went 2-0 up then it went 4-2 to them then 4-4 then they scored the winner in injury time.

I actually thought we were going to knock Barcelona out of Europe, Oh How wrong could I be? We should have put the tie to bed in the 1st leg as Pato missed a simple chance with only a couple of minutes to go, but instead his shot was saved then pumped up field for Dede to score the away goal. Messi smashed us all over in the 2nd leg.

Back to unbeaten ways in the league, and lots of goals scored too. My trio of 18 year old midfielders are really becoming something special.

We've disposed of Sporting in another cup on our way to the final so we're still on for the treble.

I forgot to take the screenshot of the table at the end of February so it does include the Vit. Setubal result.

Since the Vit Setubal game in March Sporting have dropped points and we are now 1 point clear at the top with 1 game left..... away to Benfica (Ouch) We would have won the title at Vicente as we needed 2 wins from the last 3 games but we only drew.

The league cup was once again ours after the sham performance we put into it last season. With this I have taken my trophy tally to 6 now, shame its only domestic glory and not European.

As we battered Moreirense in the 1st leg, I knew we would progress into the final anyway so no real shock here. We shall play Rio Ave in the final.

These 3 players are going to be the backbone of this team for the next 10-15 years hopefully

*Any opinions of the regens?*

you have some great regen players there, Loving the story so far mate

Acosta is very good, with a physical training to increase his pace and acceleration he will be a monster. Too bad he has 14 heading with 2 jumping, that's wasted points, but still.

Solomun is awesome.

Not a great fan of Demir (very physical, but average teamwork and determination, two key stats, and I hate long shots), I think you should make him play a season to increase his value and sell him for 30-40M

The only signings that were made were for the future as no matter how many times I improve the youth facilities we still cant produce our own stars and our finances are not good. We released a lot of people that were no where near good enough to challenge for a first team place. Ramires was sold as he was injured for a lot of last season and is stats rapidly declined.

A solid pre-season with plenty of goals scored. Hopefully the team are ready to defend our league title.

As I've mentioned before about being manager of Romania, I did resign due to being offered a job with a different nation after the Euro's.

August - October should be up soon
