Today was another Premier League game in charge and it was funnily enough against a team I had already faced, Bolton. However, when we played them last time it was in the Carling Cup not the Premier League. The last match was close and I was suprised we beat them, I was hoping that today it would be an easy win. Bolton are only 18th in the Premier League and have played one more game than us. I decided to stick with the team that played Liverpool because they played very well in that game...

Man of the Match

David Silva

This was quite a good result, it put's us fifth but however fourth place West Ham have a game in hand. As you can guess by the man of the match status David Silva got the only goal in this match in the 83rd minute, we deserved to win this match by about 5-0. The performance the lads put on out there deserves congratulations, even though it was only against Bolton they knew that I had been unhappy with the previous results and proved to me that they care for this club.

Well Done Lads!!

Marcel give us an outlook of the game?

I think we were very good and controlling. We dominated the game from start to finish and we should have won comfortably, well we did but it should have been much more. David Silva was outstanding and in the end he made the difference but with a little better finishing and maybe a bit more luck we can win these games comfortably. The team is gelling and we are getting better and better. I am delighted with how Zizou has got the team going and he is doing a fantastic job.

Today was another Carling Cup game, it was against Bristol Rovers. The whole squad was fit and I was hoping that this would be an easier game than the last Carling Cup match against Bolton. Bristol Rovers beat Stoke on penalties in the last round, and that was something I seriously did not want to happen to my Manchester City squad. I went out the tunnel early with Marcel and gave the fans a wave and the appreciation we recieved was fantastic, we weren't even first in the League but the reception was fantastic. I don't know whether it was because I was guiding the squad to a higher and higher place in the League or just because I am a football legend.
I then went back into the dressing room and pinned the squad up on the wall, there was a few shocks because some regulars had been dropped to the bench to make way for some different players...

Manchester City 1-0 Bristol Rovers

Man of the Match

4746-no_franck_ribery_s_better.jpg

Franck Ribery

This was match that was completely dominated by the lads and even though it was a only the one goal that won that match for us, Bristol Rover didn't have one shot on target, and only had 3 shots in total. We took the lead after 10 minutes through Franck (Ribery), he broke through defence and smashed it into the top right corner, Steve Phillips had no chance in saving it!

Today I also gave out my congratulations to 3 players that are not regulars but played extremely well today, Jack Rodwell, Omer Toprak and Jo. Jo had the most shots in the match and all of them were on target, unfortunately none of them went in. Jack Rodwell and Omer Toprak were like a wonder partnership in defence, these will be two players who will easily be in the starting line up in a couple of seasons.

I made a few subs in the match also, at half time I brought off Adam Johnson for Luka Modric. Adam was playing well but didn't create much and had a chance that really he should of put away. I also brought off Robinho for Edin Dzeko in the 73rd minute, Robinho was playing well but seemed to be tiring. Edin (Dzeko) replaced him perfectly well, almost scoring two goals.

Today was also a very good match for Bristol Rovers keeper Steve Phillips who was easily their best player, if it wasn't for him they would of lost by a greater margin.

What do you guys think of the more descriptive match analysis??

I like the extended analysis, but i think you should switch to doing monthly, rather than game-by-game updates.. and think about making the preview neater, using screenshots of the lineups etc. Other than that, looking good - well done.

Nice stuff i'm following- have a look at mine and tell me how I can improve it! BTW SICK SIGNINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marcel's take, 4-4-2 magazine interview :

The game today was another promising performance. Jo was outstanding and it's an injustice that he didn't get a goal, but with that type of performance goals will surely come. Franck [Ribery] had a nice game as well and his goal decided it, he is becoming more and more valuable by the day. And of course the special mention, who went to our two young defenders who were simply out this world at the back. Jack [Rodwell] showed the type of performance that assures me that he'll be a star in only a couple of years. Zizou has created a winning mentality and defionetely knows how to win. He's created a great atmosphere in the dressing room and the players are now like family to each other. It's only a matter of time before the wins turn in to demolitions, the goals will come, they will come.

We went into todays game against Burnley 9th in the table, however, we had only played 5 games where as the majority of the other teams had played 7 games. I was thinking this morning that maybe I haven't done enough to this team and that I'm not the right guy for the job. I mean, we aren't first and that's where the board expect me to be, then I realised, it's only early days. There is still plenty of time to go first, also we are one of 3 teams that are unbeaten in the League. Us, West Ham and Chelsea.

Today was a game that the fan's expected a win from, and I agreed with them. Burnley at home, should be easy...

Manchester City 1-0 Burnley

Man of the Match

Chris-Eagles-001.jpg

Chris Eagles
This result was not as high scoring as I expected, but it is a win and a win's a win. Today was my first game in charge where the Man of the Match wasn't a player from my team and it was also my first game in charge where the Man of the Match wasn't on the winning side.

We scored the only goal of the game in the 4th minute when Burnley unluckily gave away a penalty through Wade Elliot by fouling Fernando (Torres) just as he was about to score a goal. Wesley (Sneijder) decided he wanted to take the penalty, and I bet he's glad he did because thankfully he scored it.

Today was yet another game that was dominated by the lads but yet again that was not shown in the score line. I believe that Chris Eagles did deserve Man of the Match as he was the only player out there that put his all into the match throughout.

Today I also gave Jo his first League game of the season after his top performance in the Carling Cup. He played well and had a couple of shot's on goal and was glad that I gave him a chance to play. However, he has been top notch but I don't think this will make me want to take him off the transfer list because we have Wayne (Rooney) on his way in and at the momment I have too many strikers.

I made two subs in the whole game and they were at half time I brought off Jo for Robinho and in the 63rd minute brought off Mesut (Ozil) for Luka (Modric).

Robinho played well and infact had the most shots on target out off everyone in the game, considering he only came on at half time I'm sure he'll be proud of that and will look forward to being in the starting line-up (instead of Jo) once again.

Marcel's view

As I start my column I'd first like to congratulate West Ham on their fantastic start and wish them well as it is good to see a smaller team do well. But now of course the main part of my column, the ongoings of Manchester City, where I am assisstant to the legendary Zinidine Zidane. We are winning, however there is critisism that we are not scoring enough, those comments were magnified today when we only managed to score one past a disoriantated Burnley side. However, when Jose Mourinho won the league in 2005 he rarely demoished teams, he edged past them, game after game and they won the title. A few years later, the great Sir Alex Ferguson's Man utd won the title, while going on a run of ten or so games without conceding, and the majority of them being 1-0 victories. Therefor let's not bash Manchester City. They are beating teams with ease, maybe not demolishing, but the three points are all that matter. And in regards to today' game and to the people who say only a penalty seperated the sides, I am certain Torres would have buried the goden oppertunity.

The lads are gelling, they enjoy themselves at training. Zizou and myself have some banter with them as well. The players both love and respect Zizou, a good achievment considering the miniscule time they have been together, and Zizou's tactical knowledge and man management skills continue to astound me. Players are playing very well, and we definetely have the strongest squad in the league. Kolarov has impressed, Chiellini has been a rock, and Jerome Beoting has settled in well too. Wesley Snjeider has been fantastic and has continued his godlike performances from the world cup. I assure you everything is looking bright, in the light blue half of Manchester.

October was what I would say a dispointing month, however, at the end of October we were 3rd which I found extremely suprising after some not very good results. We played 6 matches, we won three, lost two and drew one. The month was quite a difficult one though, we had to play three top four teams and one contender for the top four.

We started the month by beating Stoke City 1-0, with a goal from Edin Dzeko. It was unfortunately scored in the 85th minute which lead us no time to progress on the lead. Thomas Sorensen finished as Man of the Match that day.

Thomas-Sorensen.jpg

We then faced a visit to Villa Park to play Aston Villa who are currently a team who are contending for the top four. The match ended goal less sadly, but it should of ended 1-0 to us because we had a goal disallowed which in my mind was a perfectly fine goal. Robinho was given a brilliant pass by Wesley (Sneijder) and scored but apparently Robinho was offside. The ref thought it was a goal untill he noticed the linesmans flag up. Flippin' lineos! Igor Akinfeev finished that match as Man of the Match.
6_316_FULL_akinfeev-b.jpg

We then had to host Tottenham, our newly created rivals and the team we were planning to knock off the top four spot. This match was an embaressment and I heard faint booing from some of the City fans. Whether it was directed at me or the players I am unsure but the match finished 3-1 to Tottenham. Tottenham took the lead after 25 minutes through Christian Grindheim and then we equalised through Luis Suarez. Giovani Dos Santos then made it 2-1 to Spurs in the 76th minute and then as a kind of, let's say, 'Up Yours City!' approach by Spurs, Robbie Keane dived in the penalty area in the 83rd minute and got them a penalty, and yep you guessed it, Robbie Keane scored it to finish the match off 3-1. Roman Pavlyuchenko finished as Man of the Match.
13871.jpg

Then after that game we had another difficult team to host, Chelsea. This match we lost, but I was proud because they only won by one goal, and it was a free kick. Deco scored in the 36th minute but throughout the match we were having shots after shots and if it wasn't for Petr Cech we would have probably won that match. Due to the amount of great saves he made Petr Cech was named Man of the Match.

Petr-Cech-the-Chelsea-goa-001.jpg

We then had to play Sunderland away and this match we thankfully won. Luis Suarez opened the scoring after 38 minutes and Darren Bent then made it 1-1 in the 48th minute. Franck Ribery then snatched the win in the 71st minute after a brilliant free kick. Igor Akinfeev finished Man of the Match.
igor-akinfeev_1499427c.jpg

Then the last game of October we had to play Arsenal at home. This game was brilliant. The match was exactly equal throughout untill the 61st minute. William Gallas makes a two footed tackle on Wesley Sneijder in the penalty area. Penalty to Manchester City given. Carlos Tevez stepped up and cooly put it into the bottom left corner and gave us the lead. I was over the moon, although I knew we would have trouble holding onto this lead, and we didn't, we continued piling pressure on them and kept shooting and shooting. Arsenal's new goalkeeper Steve Mandana was very lucky not to let in just one goal. The Man of the Match in this game was Carlos Tevez.
477853-dtstory-carlos-tevez.jpg

So, we finished this month in 3rd place. This was great taking into consideration the teams we faced this month. This month also added loads of pressure onto the lads as the transfer rumours started to real in. This month also struck us with injuries unfortunately. Fernando Torres suffered a groin strain at the begining of the month and will be out for around another 10 days still, Jerome Boateng suffered a groin strain mid way through the month and will be out for another 3 weeks still and Luis Suarez injured himself just before the Arsenal game through a damaged shoulder and he will be out for another month still.

We caught up with Marcel desailly during his appearance at the Unicef fundraising event in Paris and asked him a few questions on Man City.

First of all Marcel, how do feel to be asked to appear at this charity event?

It's an honour, to help the less fortunate is a special feeling.

And it seems that you are always somewhere around the world?

Yes my schedule has been busy lately.

Perhaps checking out a few possible additions to Man City?

Perhaps, you will just have to see.

Rumours are already circulating of Brazilian Neymar and Luke Young, any truth to them?

I can definetely rule out the Neymar move, in regards to Luke Young, no comment.

Ok, so how do you think City performed this month?

I think we were very good. We again stormed past Stoke with a convincing performance, again a testiment to our defence. Ehh, the game against Villa was incredibly frustrating, we deserved to win but the linesman felt the need to disallow a perfectly good goal, I won't say any more on that matter as I fancy keeping my money in my pocket right now. The next game was just one of those games. Tottenham played well. The Robbie Keane dive did sting though, but it happened and we can only move on. Again unfortunate against a good Chelsea side. But we then bounced back with a win against Sunderland and then a fantastic performance and three points against Arsenal.

There have been a lot of rumours circulaing, will your boss be delving into the transfer market?

Injuries have dampened our team so maybe a couple of new faces could appear to strengthen the squad.

Thanks Marcel.

And to you.

Wayne Rooney was boo'd off the pitch at Old Trafford today after it was publicly announced that he would be leaving the club in January to sign for fierce rivals Manchester City. Fans have declared Rooney as Judas and campaigns are being created to enforce that he never plays for Manchester United again. Darren Beasely, head of the campaign, relseased this statement.
"If he does not want to play for us, then he won't. To move to croos-town rivals Man City is just unforgivable. He is no longer a Manchester United player in the fan's eyes."
Rooney has refused to comment but Marcel Desailly revealed that a deal was struck a few months ago.

Can we keep the comments coming guys :) All those who say they're following could you please still comment :)

Today I recieved a phone call from Sheikh and he was giving me an update on how he and the board think the squad is currently doing he told me 'The board are currently satisfied with your management of the team. However, they are monitoring the mood amongst the players in the squad.' I thought this was kinda funny because the squad were entirely happy and weren't annoyed at all! Infact, I was quite annoyed with Sheikh because he gave me the money and talks to me, fine, but he didn't have any interaction with the players or the fans. He hadn't even been to one match live yet!

I made sure he knew of my feelings when I spoke to him on the phone; he understood and said that he was booking the first flight to Manchester and will be here to watch our next game against Ipswich in the Carling Cup. He wasn't the only member of the Manchester City backroom staff that I asked to watch this game, I also made sure my top scout was there to keep an eye on Connor Wickham as I was definately interested in signing him.
