The Road to the Premiership - A Yeovil Town Story

looks like a good story. will be following.
post a screenie of the league table though.

Bristol+Rovers.gif

Yeovil Town 2 - 0 Bristol Rovers
Seck, Bowditch
A nice win over our closest rivals, however a rather out of character performance from Pericard who never really got into the game at all. Mamadou Seck poked home the opener in the first half after the Bristol keeper flapped at and fumbled a corner and we shut out Bristol after that restricting them to just 2 shots on target. Bowditch sealed the win with a freak goal after taking Pericard's place. He charged down a clearance from a Rover's defender, the ball cannoned back off of him and ended up in the back of the net. Not his most graceful of finishes but I am a firm believer in the phrase "It doesnt matter how they go in, just as long as they do".
MotM - Mamadou Seck

Wycombe.jpg

Yeovil Town 5 - 2 Wycombe Wanderers
Serhat, Way, Pericard (2), OG-Young - Pittman (2)
Wasnt really looking forward to this fixture considering how soundly they beat us last time me met up and with the scoreline at 2-2 at the interval, I though we were in for a rough ride. But Pericard tucked away his first and we never looked back. Serhat was in deadly form finishing with a goal and two assists. His goal was a stunner as well beating two defenders before absolutely rifling the ball home, definately the highlight of the match.
MotM - Vincent Pericard

JPT SOUTH FINAL 2nd LEG
Wycombe.jpg

Wycombe Wanderers 0 - 1 Yeovil Town
Seck
Yeovil win 3-4 on penaties
We needed to win! But by christ this was a much, much tighter affair than just 3 days ago. Seck scored a vital goal, heading home an indirect free kick early in the second half. I told the team to push on but we looked vulnerable on the break with Pittman going close and Phillips hitting the bar, so I shut up shop and went ultra defensive. The game went to penalties and Wycombe crumbled under the pressure missing their opening two penalties. Yeovil are through to the final!!! We play Leeds next month.
MotM - Mamadou Seck

Southend United 2 - 2 Yeovil Town
Standing, Little - Mensing-(pen)
, Serhat
Threw away 3 points! Standing scored the opener before Mensing leveled the game from the penalty spot. Serhat popped up in the 71st minute to put Yeovil in control and I thought we could see it home. Veteran midfielder Glen Little had other ideas however and levelled the game 4 minutes from time. I suppose any point away from home is a good point though...
MotM - Serhat

X-20071002150504296.jpg

Tranmere Rovers 1 - 1 Yeovil Town
Thomas-Moore - Pericard
Dispite being 22nd in the league, ever since appointing Ex-Yeovil captain Terry Skiverton as manager Tranmere have gone on a 5 match unbeaten streak including a shock 2-0 win over the near invincible Brighton! So a point is more than acceptable, anyway its only fitting that we should share the spoils. Good to see Pericard get back on the score sheet, hes been out of form recently. Craig Alcock also played very well getting an assist and being a rock at the back.
MotM - Craig Alcock

carlisle_united_logo.jpg

Carlisle United 3 - 3 Yeovil Town
Madine, Livesey, Dobie - Seck, Douala, Bowditch
Again let the three points slip through our fingers today. Dobie equalizing in the 91st minute to the delight of the Carlisle supporters. However we did come from 2-0 down to salvage a point and nearly steal the whole three, so all in all a good day at the office. Seck again showing that his height and heading ability from set pieces are very dangerous attributes, getting on the score sheet at the stroke of halftime to start the fight back. Douala thumped home the equalizer from a tight angle after Mensing's shot was parried into his path. His goal acutally came 3rd on the goal of the month competion. Not a bad way to score your first goal for a new club.
MotM - Rudolph Douala

Unfortunatly I went steaming off ahead on my game without the fore thought to screen shot the league standings. However this is the league 3 games after the Carlilse match.

Mk-dons-Logo.jpg2.jpg

Yeovil Town 3 - 1 MK Dons

Ritchie, Douala, Forbes - Wilbraham
Matty Ritchie contributing his first goal since his loan move from Portsmouth and Douala scoring his second in two games before halftime. Aaron Wilbraham poached a goal from a missed clearing header by Arrieta to give the Dons a glimmer of hope but Forbes sealed the win with what had to be the best goal line scramble Ive ever seen on football manager. Im not even going to try to explain it but it envolved 8 players and 3 clearances blocked by MK Dons own teamates.
MotM - Terrell Forbes

0,,10433%7E3313995,00.jpg

Brighton 3 - 3 Yeovil Town
Elphick, Feeney, Cotterill - Bowditch (2), Seck
A great result at the Withdean and we could have had all 3 point too after Bowditch scored his second to make it 3-2, I really thought we could see it out. However Cotterill unmarked at the far post, smashed home the equalizer 4 minutes from time. I was worried that with Pericard out with injury we would struggle for goals but Bowditch really stepped up, definately a performance worthy of some first team football.
MotM - Dean Bowditch

0,,10428%7E3283168,00.jpg

Walsall 2 - 2 Yeovil Town
Mattis, Nichols - Welsh, Forbes
Yeovil seem to have gotten into this annoying habit of deciding that 3 points isnt really all that and throw them away in the dying embers of game, especially when we are away from home. Alex Nichols levelled the game in the 88th minute for the hosts.
Welsh opened the scoring with the highlight of the match, a solo run from the halfway line, going one on one with the keeper before slotting the ball home, in off of the upright. A great goal.
MotM - Andy Welsh

0,,10436%7E4956037,00.jpg

Exeter City 2 - 1 Yeovil Town
Dawkins, Grimes - OG-Dawkins
A very poor display. Yeovil were unbeaten since meeting Everton in the FA cup, but we were humbled by relegation candidates Exeter today. Dawkins scored the opener before cancelling out his own goal with a sliced clearance. Ashley Grimes sealed the win finishing a great Exeter move with a calm finish across the keeper. Yeovil's away form is truely infruiating!
MotM - Matt Taylor

Nice JPS Win in final and u have had some unlucky draws in cup. Will follow. Can you have a look at mine mate :D

JPT FINAL

_47593292_3244768_yeovil_leeds_512x288.jpg

Welcome to Sky Sports 1 coverage of the Johnstones Paint Trophy here at Wembley Stadium, I am your commentator Clive Tillesley Neither of these teams have ever won this trophy so you can guanrentee that we will have a new cup holder after today. Luton were the previous holders but havent been able to attemt to defend their title this season, after being relegated to the Blue Square Premier.

Yeovil start the match shooting towards the east stand from left to right, Yeovil in the green and white hoops and Leeds in their yellow away shirts. Remeber that only a couple of points separate these two teams in the league so dont write Yeovil off without a chance. Many say the Yeovil manager Daniel Jameson has masterminded Yeovil's spectaular rise in league and cup, maybe he can mastermind bringing home some silverware today for the Yeovil fans.

Howson on the ball now for Leeds, he passes to Becchio who turns, he beats Seck! Great chance for Becchio! Saved. Alex McCarthy turns it round the post a great save!

Its a corner now for Leeds. Oh and thats a waste, it didnt even beat the first man and now Yeovil can counter. Way with the ball, he strides forward driving Yeovil on and thats a lovely weighted pass, he's released Welsh down the left hand side. Welsh beats is man and whips it in. Pericard! He's wasted it, its gone flying over the bar.

Kebe now on the ball for Leeds, moving down this right hand side but he cant get past Alcock, he passes inside to Howson, just outside the box Howson squares it to Grella who is closed down by Forbes, Grella lays it back to Howson who hits it first time!... GOAL! WHAT A GOAL THAT IS! Howson curls it first time into the top right hand corner! McCarthy had absolutely no chance at all, no keeper in the world would have saved that!

Leeds are driving on now, looking for their second goal. Micheal Doyle, Howson, to Snodgrass who passes back to Mulgrew, Snodgrass gets it back he shoots! Thats was close, the ball flicked up off of the bar. McCarthy was well and truely beaten there.

And the refree blows up for half time.
Howson has put Leeds in front after 25 minutes with a magnificent strike. Yeovil 0 - 1 Leeds.

The second half is underway and Yeovil have made some changes, Douala has come on for Serhat and Mahoto is on for Agboh.

Mahoto on the ball now, he looks for Way, mistake by Way and Kebe bears down on the Yeovil back line, Jimmy Kebe!!! Deined by McCarthy a solid save to push that shot over the bar.

Corner now for Leeds Howson floats it in. Kisnorbo beats Forbes! Saved and McCarthy holds that one, either side of the keeper there at thats 2-0 Leeds. Alex McCarthy is keeping Yeovil in this final.

Substitutions for Leeds and both stikers are being changed Beckford on for Grella and Showunmi on for Becchio. Leeds are obviously pushing for the win.

Way on the ball for Yeovil, he looks wide for Douala who tries to get into a good crossing position but Mulgrew holds strong, Douala plays it back to Way who shoots! Good save by Higgs he turns it over the bar.

Way steps up to take the corner for Yeovil now, he swings it to the far post. SECK! Oh so unlucky, it clips the bar and goes over. Mamadou Seck managed to beat 3 players and the Leeds keeper in the air to reach that ball a truely towering header.

The Yeovil captain Simon Mensing has the ball in the centre of the park back to Mahoto, to Jones and thats a lovely cross field ball by Jones, that is inch perfect. Douala runs onto it at pace, hes headin for the by line, Douala with the cross, VINCENT PERICARD IS THERE! GGOOOOAAAALLL! Yeovil are level in the 79th minute! Pericard has scored with his last kick of the came, Bowditch is on for him now.

Thats it its level at full time and we move into extra time.

Jimmy Kebe on the ball moving down the right hand side, thats a neat one two with Beckford, Kebe centres it met by the head of Showunmi! And that is mere inches wide, Enoch Showunmi came extremely close for Leeds there.

Seck on the ball now, passes to Nathan Jones who looks for Welsh, Welsh ***** it over the top for Bowditch and hes through! Bowditch bears down on goal. HE HITS IT! HIGGS TIPS IT ONTO THE POST! What a save! Drama here in the final minutes of extra time!

Score ~ Yeovil 1-1 Leeds aet

Simon Mensing with the first penatly... Scores, great penatly, power and precision right into the corner

1-0

Howson steps up... Goal, he placed it in bottom left.

1-1

Mahoto for Yeovil now... Hes absolutely blasted that, he nearly broke the net!

2-1

Enoch Showunmi to take the penatly for Leeds now... Its in.

2-2

Seck steps up... And thats a wonderful finish right into the corner.

3-2

Charlie Mulgrew for Leeds... Hes hit the post!

3-2

Doulala... Oh dear, woeful penatly, hes hit it straight at Higgs.

3-2

Kebe takes the next for Leeds... Its there McCarthy got a hand on it, but it was too powerful.

3-3

Andy Welsh for Yeovil... Higgs saves! And that is vital Leeds can win it with the next kick!

3-3

Micheal Doyle can win Leeds the cup here... And hes buckled under the pressure, hes put it well wide.

3-3

Nathan Jones now for Yeovil, can he make it count... Its hit the inside of the post... and stayed out! So, so unlucky!

3-3

Leeds get another chance to take the title. Kisnorbo... He slots it home, right inot the corner! Leeds win!

3-4

FINAL SCORE

Yeovil Town 1 - 3 Huddersfield
Bowditch - Rhodes (2), Kay
Well Jordan Rhodes single handedly out classed us today and the frame of the goal deined him his hat trick twice. Only positive is that Dean Bowditch has started to score regulary, really stepping up in Pericard's absence and recent dip in form. Nothing much to add, we were expected to lose and Huddersfield are now favourites to be League 1 champions.
MotM - Jordan Rhodes

Charlton 0 - 1 Yeovil Town
Bowditch
Yeovil Town back to winning ways over heavy favourites Charlton. This was Yeovils first win in 5 games in league and cup. Dean Bowditch picked off a poor pass by the Charlton full back before tucking away the only goal of the game, which delighted the travelling Yeovil fans. This was Yeovil's first 3 points on the road since Gillingham way back in December!
MotM - Dean Bowditch

Gills_FC_logo_300.jpg

Yeovil Town 2 - 1 Gillingham
Murtagh, Bowditch - Richards
Thats the double over the Gills this season, both home and away wins. This was a real team effort, everyone put in 100% and it really showed, we dominated them. Kieran Murtagh also scored a fantastic goal, he smashed it home from 30 yards out before halftime. Bowditch got on the score sheet again, he really is in great form as the season comes to an end.
MotM - Kieran Murtagh

Leeds%20United.png

Yeovil Town 1 - 4 Leeds
Bowditch - OG-Agboh, Beckford, Snodgrass, Showunmi
Richard Martin had a torrid game in goal today, he was beaten 3 times at his near post in a very poor display of goalkeeping. Kuami Agboh was unlucky to conceed the own goal, but redeemed himself to restrict Leeds to just 4... I know its scary that it could have been more, especially because we are strongest at home. Thats now 7 we have conceeded at home in two games, this needs to change!!!
MotM - Robert Snodgrass

hartlepool_united_fc.png

Hartlepool 1 - 2 Yeovil Town
Boyd - OG-Brown, Serhat
What a great result! Hartlepool are pushing for a playoff spot and we managed to stop them in their tracks today. Boyd opened the scoring before James Brown managed to slice a clearance into his own net to bring the game level. Serhat came on late in the second half for a lack lustre Douala and fired home a great goal from 20 yards out. Our home and away form have swapped places!
MotM - Andrea Orlandi

0,,10309%7E5835438,00.jpg

Stockport County 2 - 1 Yeovil Town
Johnson, Thompson - Bowditch
Poor. Very poor. Oli Johnson ran rings around Stam and Seck today scoring and getting an assist. Very annoyed by the manner of the defeat, especially because we took the lead early on and didnt captitalize on it. We were largely favoured to take the 3 points today too.
MotM - Oli Johnson

Unlucky on the JPT loss mate. However, a really good idea to do commentary, and it was a fantastic read. Keep it up, and great story so far!

seck and pericard are good signings. both were very consistent for me in league 1

Yeovil are level in the 79th minute! Pericard has scored with his last kick of the came, Bowditch is on for him now.

what the **** were they doing for the last 11 minutes if it was the last kick! lol only jokin mate. this is a really cool story, hope you continue it.

Updates are comming thick and fast today, but I might as well finish the season considering theres two games left

Colchester%20United.png

Yeovil Town 3 - 2 Colchester
Stam, Pericard, Douala - Oster, Burton
Wonderful to see Pericard get on the scoresheet and a much needed win in the climax of the season. Stam scored his first goal of the season in the penultimate game of the season! We came from 0-2 down to win infront of our own supporters which is an added bonus. Douala scored another memorable goal, he seems to have a habit of scoring late on.
MotM - John Oster

Norwich%20City%20Icon.png

Norwich City 3 - 2 Yeovil Town
Hoolahan, Holt, OG-Arrieta - Pericard (2)
A very disappointing end to the season. We were leading 0-2 and still managed to throw away the 3 points. All credit to Norwich however, they were really determind. However this loss isnt a complete failure, Hartlrpool lost and Southampton won meaning Yeovil Town finish 6th!!! WE GOT A PLAY OFF SPOT!!!
MotM - Vincent Pericard

Let us know how you get on in the play-offs please! Don't mean to horrible, but if you draw Southampton, I hope they win. They're my team! :D Good luck if you get any of the other 3 teams in the semi's. Give us a season conclusion!

great story so far with an excellent layo ut and the commentary idea in the JP final was an excellent idea well done.
Hope you win the play offs

COCA-COLA LEAGUE 1 PLAYOFF

Yeovil Town welcomed Brighton and former manager Russell Slade to Huish Park today for the first leg of the play off match up. Brighton were very, very slight favourites but Yeovil had every chance of getting the vital home win considering their outstanding home record.

Huish Park was packed to the rafters with just over 9000 fans in attendance. The Yeovil fans were really out in force to support their team on thier highest league position ever, an accolade formerly held by Russell Slade. One Glover's fan stated "Win or lose, we really dont care we are so astonished by how well the team has performed this year. We never dreamed of having a playoff spot!".

Yeovil-Town--Huish-Park-General_1066575.jpg

The Yeovil fans celebrated thier culbs huge achievement.

Neither team has beaten each other in the league this season first playing out a 1-1 draw and then a thrilling 3-3 game, which saw Yeovil nearly take the 3 points.

Sky Sports managed to get an exclusive interview with Yeovil manager Daniel Jameson before the match kicked off -

Sky Sports - "You must be delighted with your team to get into the play offs, considering that many had tipped you to be battling against relegation"

Jameson - "Absolutely! This is a huge achievement for the club. Im just glad Im along or the ride with the really!"

Sky Sports - "Many pundits and fans alike have said that you have masterminded all this success this season, what are your thoughts on this?"

Jameson - "With all due respect, I am just the manager. The players on the team deserve all the credit they have really gone above and beyond themselves"

Sky Sports - "Who do you think has been your stand out player this season in that case?"

Jameson - "Well I think the whole team stand out as being the reason behind out success. But Mamadou and Vincent have been truely outstanding, they have really contributed alot this season"

_46531236_3149780_yeovil_brighton_resize.jpg

Yeovil Town 0 - 1 Brighton
Davis

Such a tight game and Yeovil were very unlucky to lose. Graeme Smith was just amazing in goal for Brighton denying what would have been a wonder goal from Vincent Pericard and stopping a rasping shot from Mensing. Brighton fan favourites Davis and Cotterill conspried Yeovil's down fall today. They looked dangerous all game before finally breaking down the Yeovil defence. Cotterill got half a yard on Smith before crossing the ball in, Davis found space between Forbes and Seck to head home the winner.

Else where Southampton welcomed Leeds to St Mary's but look very lack lustre and Leeds came away with a 0-2 lead and really took control of the second leg.

Yeovil travel to the Withdean in three days to play the second leg. It is now a must win game for them, if they want to progress.

COCA-COLA LEAGUE 1 PLAYOFF 2nd LEG

Hello and welcome to Sky Sports coverage of the 2nd leg tie of the Coca-Cola League 1 playoff between Brighton and Hove Albion vs Yeovil town. This leg will be played at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton, with the hosts holding a 1-0 lead on aggregate after doing the buisness at Yeovil 3 days ago. This is a must win game now for Yeovil Town if they want to stand any chance of promotion. I am your Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler.

Brighton have won the toss and have decided to take the kick off. It will Brighton in the blue shooting from left to right and Yeovil in the green and white hooped shirts, shooting from right to left. Yeovil fans will be hoping that manager Daniel Jameson can conjure up some fighting spirit from the Yeovil team today.

Its Mensing on the ball now for Yeovil, he's looking to pass, oh but Davis has tripped him. That'll be a Yeovil free kick. The refree just talks with Davis, no yellow card is shown. Seck will take the free kick deep inside the Yeovil half. Thats a good ball up to Ritchie who brings it down really well. Brighton have been caught flat footed here! Rithie gets the ball in, Bowditch brings it down and shoots!!! It hits the post! And Elphick clears, Oh Dean Bowditch was so unlucky there! Yeovil Town have made their objective obvious, they are definetely going for the win. They are pouring men forward!

Way controls the ball in the Yeovil half, he sprays it out wide to Douala who passes back to Nathan Smith and thats a clever piece of play as Smith lobs the defender and plays the ball into Douala's path, Douala shoots on the half volley! Over the bar, just a little too high.

And the refree blows for half time. Not alot of real action in the first half, but Yeovil have dominated and have really set themselves out for the win that they need.

There are no changes on either side at half time as Yeovil kick off. The Brighton fans will hope that Russell Slade's words can spur their team into action, theyve been lack lustre so far.

Elphick with a long ball upfield looking for the run of Forster, but he wont reach it and thats an easy pick up for Richard Martin. He throws it out wide to Smith who comes forward, he draws the defender onto him and passes up the line to Matty Ritchie. Ritchie looks to release Bowditch behind the Brighton centre backs, thats a devilish ball! Mistake by Elphick, he's missed the header and Bowditch is clean through, he looks to place it in the corner... What a save that is! Graeme Smith with an absolutely vital and outstanding save to deny Bowditch! He's tipped it round the post for a Yeovil corner. Brighton will need to be careful here, Yeovil have been dangerous all season from corners.

Way whips the ball in, Mamadou Seck at the far post! Saved by Smith! Mensing on the follow up! Smashes it! SAVED! It bounces off of Cotterill! Graeme Smith dives onto it. What a passage of play for Graeme Smith, he is single handedly shutting Yeovil out!

Yeovil Substitution here Bowditch comes off for Serhat and Ritchie shakes the hand of Welsh who takes his place.

Thats a Yeovil throw. Douala controls well and turns. Serhat makes a run and Douala plays a wonderful inch perfect pass, Serhat first time!!! Saved! Smith beats the ball away!

15 minutes remain of this second half and Yeovil need a goal. Way high 10s Pericard who comes on to try to find a goal. Yeovil change to a 4-2-4. Serhat to Mensing, who looks to find Douala. Douala plays it inside to Mahoto who shoots, it takes a big deflection off of Danny Butterfield and goes behind for a corner.

Serhat will take the corner, he delivers it to the edge of the 6 yard box, Pericard rises above Murray!
GGGOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!!!!!!
Pericard heads home! Yeovil 1-0 up here! Thats the goal theyve been looking for, theyve been threatening it all match!

Forbes has the ball for Yeovil, he passes to Welsh. The momentum is with Yeovil down, they are looking for another goal. Welsh stops the ball, he dwells on it... He's had is pocket picked, Butterfield brings it forward and Brighton counter its 3 vs 3. Butterfild finds Cotterill who shoots! Arrieta blocks the shot, he threw himself in front of that. Forbes clears... Oh no! The clearance has hit Arrieta square in the back! Its richocted out of Forbes and Martin's reach! *** finds it! DEAN ***!
GGGGOOOAAAALLL!!!!!!!
DEAN *** WITH THE GOAL. Lady luck smiles upon Brighton today, theyve equalized in the 90th minute through a fortunate goal to brake Yeovil hearts. Jameson has fallen to his knees with his hand on the back of his head. He though Yeovil could see it through to extra time.

The refree blows for full time the final score 1-1 here at the Withdean. Brighton go through to 2-1 on aggeregate, they will face Leeds to see who will get the final promotion place.

Brighton 1 (2) - (1) 1 Yeovil

Great going, both in the league and JPT!

Pericard you need to hold on to, he'll do absolute wonders next season. Hope you carry it on, you've got a great layout going on, and can't wait to read on.
Also, make sure to pick up some amazing but cheap signings before the start of the next season for that added boost!
