I've struggled with getting a 4-2-3-1 to work properly, usually down to balance. I'm either set up too attacking and leave too many gaps for counter attacks or too defensive and I can't break down teams so I'm interested to try these systems.
I might even start a new save with them, possible Leeds United who knows. Either that or I'll try them on my Spurs save which is a relatively new save but I haven't played much of it.

Cheer mate! Leeds Utd is a very interesting club, with Nottingham Forrest maybe the oldest soccer clubs on world (correct me if I'm wrong). You will get a very difficult start, no budget and many players seem to be not good enough. But Aidan White, Norris, Rodolph Austin, and Tom Lees may be the best players you can see in Championship, very promising squad. Interesting thing is that Leeds facilitate is really good, good pitch, good training center which reduces injuries and improve youngster's development a lot.
And one more thing, Leeds Utd reputation is high, equals to a Premier League team, so players will be more interested in your team!!
For the too many gaps instruction I really not bother much. You can see Sir Alex Ferguson use a tactic without DM everyweek since the day Roy Kean left Man Utd. Since then the press keeps saying Man Utd have no strength in the middle, just like your assistant keeps complaining on gaps thing.
My opinion is that we are not aiming for a perfect balance tactic, but aiming for a effective one, so ignore this suggestion if you still do good!
In Combo tactics, the midfield men will come back to cover the space right after participating in attacking, so I have never consider that gap as a problem.
