Europe's top 50 transfer targets for summer 2011- in pictures | Football | guardian.co.uk

Nothing more to it than a giant list of transfer targets.

They got a lot of the prices wrong though. Only £20m for Hazard? Really Guardian?

Lol, priceless :D

I wouldn't accept "in a minute". Although I'd quite like to **** over Barca by selling him to RM if we sell him at all.

Fab is worth more than torrres imo so it should be OVER 50 M if they want Cesc

Although I agree with both statements, I don't really agree with the connection. As has been said, transfers between English teams is always going to be higher, especially in January when people were panic-buying and clubs knew they could hold out for as much as they wanted really. I'd say he's worth more than Rossi, though who looks to be going for 35M Euros, he's worth at least 15M more, especially considering his age, the fact Barca have courted him for over 2 years (= desperate, unlikely to put them on good terms with Arsenal), him being our captain, and our financial situation compared to Villarreal's.

Meh. He won't go for a lot more than that IMO. Between that and £30m if he leaves at all this summer. Depends who's genuinely interested - if RM go for him, the price will soar up but if there aren't many clubs willing to splash out on an expensive signing they don't really need (leaving way for Arsenal/Liverpool and maybe a couple of others) then he could go for less than £30m IMO.

Arsenal have a good relationship with Lille as well, so that might knock the price down from the £30m-ish mark.

Admittedly, I have no sources, but apparently, the 15M for Higuain is a knock down price for Arsenal, no-others, In exchange for this they were going to purchase Fabregas at £35M.

Do you know any of this?

I've not heard that tbh - really interesting, though. I read that Perez wanted a big money striker in and wanted to sell Higuain because he didn't like him/wanted to raise funds by JM said no.

Interesting. Would be an absolute steal at 15M, even with Fab going the other way.

FIFA made it, there's bound to be tons of loopholes

Uefa not FIFA, and i dont think there will be many loopholes. Platini may say hes doing it to save football, but he drew it up with english clubs i mind, particularly city and chelsea

Yeah he has a real problem with England, but I hope he does a solid job with Fair Play for the vast majority of English clubs' sake.

Now that's irony.

Our chairman seems willing to splash the cash after the experience of last time in the Championship (where he bought in 2-3 squad players) Pearce seems a solid footballer.

Not sure whether a transfer story involving a League One club can ever be called a 'saga', but there is a fair bit of to-ing and fro-ing regarding Jason Pearce, with Bournemouth rejecting Peterborough's claims that an offer has been accepted for the defender.

Waaaaheeeey =P

Probably already read this, but #LFC have not made formal bids for Henderson, Cattermole, Jones or Jose Enrique. Yet. All are on radar.

Liverpool’s pursuit of the best available young English players has led to an offer of almost £8 million being lodged with Ipswich Town for Connor Wickham. The club are also stepping up their attempt to sign Jordan Henderson, the Sunderland midfield player.

Wickham, who scored nine goals last season, is valued at £10 million by Ipswich and the 18-year-old centre forward has also been targeted by Tottenham Hotspur. However, Liverpool are confident that the opportunity to become part of an array of attacking talent that includes Luis Suárez and Andy Carroll will convince Wickham that his future lies at Anfield rather than White Hart Lane.

Damien Comolli, Liverpool’s director of football, watched Wickham on several occasions last season and is understood to have been impressed by his all-round game, regarding the England Under-21 international as a potential star of the future.

Although their opening offer is likely to be rejected by Ipswich, Liverpool are hopeful that a compromise fee can be reached that will suit both clubs.

Liverpool’s transfer strategy this summer is built on a determination to sign players for the future who can also play an immediate part in Kenny Dalglish’s squad. The desire to lower the average age of the club’s playing staff is derived from the ambition of John W. Henry, Liverpool’s principal owner, to oversee the creation of a team who can challenge for leading honours for years to come, rather than just in the coming season.

The Merseyside club’s transfer targets will be predominantly drawn from players under the age of 26. There will be exceptions to the rule under certain circumstances, but the long-term strategy is built around constructing a young, vibrant squad that is capable of playing fast flowing, attacking football.

No deal has yet been struck between Liverpool and Sunderland for Henderson, but the Anfield club are looking for a fee to be agreed before the 20-year-old goes to Denmark with the England Under-21 squad next Wednesday for the European Championship.

Neither Liverpool nor Sunderland would confirm whether an offer has been made for the player, but talks have taken place in which the North East club have made it clear that they would not accept the £15 million offer that Comolli was hoping would be sufficient to secure the transfer.

It is thought that Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager, is holding out for about £18 million for Henderson, who has attracted interest from Manchester United and Manchester City over the past 12 months. Liverpool are unlikely to meet that price, but are believed to be ready to return with a bid in the region of £16 million as they continue with their recruitment plans for the coming season.

As revealed in April, Phil Jones, the Blackburn Rovers central defender, is another target for Liverpool, who are expecting a busy summer in the transfer market, according to Comolli.

Steve Kean, the Blackburn manager, warned Jones this week that he may struggle to secure a first-team place at a top Barclays Premier League club, but the defender is thought to have set his heart on a move away from Ewood Park.

Liverpool face competition from Arsenal for Jones, with Arsène Wenger, the North London club’s manager, eager to build his defence around the 19-year-old England Under-21 international and Thomas Vermaelen, the Belgium centre back whose long-term absence with an Achilles tendon injury was keenly felt last season.

Blackburn also face a battle to keep Christopher Samba, with Tottenham interested in the defender.

Cool, jog on, goodbye, do your shopping elsewhere.

get over it, clubs are allowed to buy players

Vanjagl, he was outstanding, interesting to see if the Croat press has got this one right again ahead of everyone else

Don't worry, we only came for Modric, we don't need Bale, Chelsea is going to buy him.

Im really hoping our scouts were on Poljud ( Stadium in Croatia where Croatia played today :D ). If they were, I know our next playmaker :)

we've been following him for almost 2 years, according to the ITK's he is THE target, only way we move off him is if we get totally shut out by spurs, which hasnt happened yet

I don't think Spurs can reject 35-40m euros for him, it's great deal, and Im sure Harry would find another Croat to fill the gap :) Anyway, in Croatia, there's "joke" about Tottenham... They call them "Crottenham" with a reason. Anyway, back on topic. I know we follow him for a long time now. It's just matter of time now. Unless Spurs act unpredictible and reject our bid .

Glad to hear about our players doing well..

Seems rumors have cooled down. We are not linked to any player..

And Sanchez is close to joining Inter..

Where's that from mate? No idea about the last three, but a bid has gone in for Henderson and been knocked back. We're supposedly going to/have already, upped our offer and sent that too. A bid has also gone in for Wickham.
