David Ngog now an integral part of Jordan Henderson's move to #LFC.

Skysports.com understands Arsenal and Liverpool are going head-to-head for defensive duo Phil Jones and Scott Dann.
Blackburn's versatile youngster Jones and Birmingham centre-back Dann are both thought to be top targets for the Gunners and Reds as they look to bolster their defensive options this summer.

Emirates chief Arsene Wenger has made a new central defender one of his top priorities, while Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish

is looking to bolster his squad as he seeks to get the side back in the top four.
Jones, who has also been employed in midfield for Rovers, is thought to be both Arsenal

and Liverpool's

number one target.
The North London club have held a long-term interest in the England Under-21 international and had a bid rejected for Jones last summer.
The Gunners are thought to have made new enquiries for Jones, but Liverpool are ready to rival their Premier League counterparts for his signature.

Dominant

Jones fits in with Liverpool's policy under new manager Kenny Dalglish and owners Fenway Sports Group to pursue young and preferably British talent.
However, both sides are also keen on dominant defender Dann and are ready to move for the 24-year-old following Birmingham's relegation.

Dann has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the country during the last two seasons and his absence in the heart of the Blues

defence for the second half of last season through injury contributed to the club's eventual relegation.
The 6ft 5in Dann, who been likened to Alan Hansen

and Tony Adams,

is believed to be keen to stay in the Premier League and the lifelong Liverpool fan would jump at the chance of a move to Anfield if his boyhood heroes firmed up their interest.
With Jones valued in the region of £16million and Blackburn reluctant to lose the 19-year-old, Dann could find himself the preferred option of both Liverpool and Arsenal as he could represent better value for money option at £10million.

Dann's a Liverpool fan, and Jones wants (apparently) to stay in the North West =P

wasnt carragher an everton fan?

Yeah, but different situation really. Surely if someone supports Liverpool, and has the option to choose between them and Arsenal, his heart would push him to Liverpool.

not quite, because arsenal offer CL football and better wages too, and in all probability a better title challenge. not that clear cut.

we have to go through a ****** qualifer though due to our maaaaaasive collapse last season :(

Arsenal wouldn't offer better wages! They're much stricter?

actually arsenal dont have uber star wages, but a lot of their players are on relatively high wages, and they have a ceiling to increase to. Liverpool actually need to also slash their wages,or at least offload player wage budget from a player leaving onto the new player

Cole/Jovanovic are on massive wages! That's why I hate bosmans, always demand massive wages. Just them off the bill will make it look much better.

Do you have to put a downer on everything all the time? Lighten up!!

(Godcubed - I've changed my mind. I'm going to shoot Calum instead: The Arsenal Thread)

RTW - There's probably a reason Birmingham went down last season... Not saying Dann is a bad player, but is he what Arsenal need? (An experienced defender? -- Dann has 50 PL apps and is only 24). I think he just gets linked with us because he's English and meant to be no-nonsense which is what the media think we need. Not sure there's any truth in it and I doubt we're making a last minute bid with Wenger with the French squad doing TV work.

thats exactly my point, you are paying CL wages, without the CL revenue. If needed arsenal could probably outdo you on that front.

You need to ship those two out. nearly 250k on those two, thats 4 players wages there

There's probably a reason Birmingham's form went completely down when he got injured for half the season.
