Peki87, the sample you provided is really small and there's lack of additional important information in order to make suggestion does it "work" or not if you need some help you should provide additional information, the list of what you need to provide can be found at the bottom of the OP.I guess it dosn't work for very small clubs...![]()
I'm finding that a large number of shots in the game are from distance even without having players with the PPM shoots from distance. Any way to reduce this? This is by far the best tactic defensively I've ever used in an FM game, but after a bright start am really struggling to score now & nearly all my players have poor ratings, striker especially are doing terrible. Have just reached January in first season & I know you say to play it for at least a season first, but I have never had ratings this bad before, yet still just about getting results.
Rikishi19, finish the season because only after that it's possible to make any suggestions, also show your training and numbers of friendly you played.
Who are your 2 players for WBL position and who are your 2 players for WBL position? Also who are 2 players for MC position?
I see you play Angel Di Maria on MC position… how is it possible?
Manchester United this season is the main reason I liked to try this tactic as it is pretty much exactly what Van Gaal is trying to do with them in real life.
Mate, if you are going to role-play it's your choice but what works in real life not necessary will work in FM... it's sad but fact
I see that a lot of players don't suite attributes and positions recommendation and I don't know maybe you edited them but without editing they don't suite.
In this case I can only advise you stick to the filters and "Recommended Team Setup" at OP.![]()
All I edited was a couple of players positions to what Van Gaal is doing, no attributes. I used the filters to look for players, but they only seem to find very average players with 13/14 for a lot of stats. For example, Godin at CB, Paulinho/Rakitic CM, Diame/Matic DM but they are worse than what I have.
RECOMMENDED TEAM SETUP:
- 2 players(1 main and 1 for rotation/backup) who can play WBL position and they must have at least "Competent" rating for ML position If they don't have it you always can train them ML position. They must be left footed.
- 2 players(1 main and 1 for rotation/backup) who can play WBR position and they must have at least "Competent" rating for MR position If they don't have it you always can train them MR position. They must be right footed.
- 1 player who can play WBR/WBL positions. He may have only "Competent" rating for these positions and you need him in case of unlucky injuries streak of main/rotation players for these positions. Also it's important that this player has at least "Reasonable" rating for his weak foot because he must be capable to play on right and left flank when needed.
- 3 players who can play Striker position: 2 main and 1 for rotation. Also it's possible to have additional player for this position, you need him in case of unlucky injuries streak of main/rotation players.
- 5 players who can play on Central Defender position: 3 main players and 2 for rotation. Few of them must be left footed in order to play DCL position and few must be right footed to play DCR position. Also it’s possible to have additional player for this position, you need him in case of unlucky injuries streak of main/rotation players.
- 2 players who can play AM position and one of them must have "Competent" rating for MC position.
- 2 players who can play MC position and one of them must have "Competent" rating for AM position and other must have "Competent" rating for DM position.
- 2 players who can play DM position and have "Competent" for MC position.
- 1 player who has at least "Competent" rating for AM/CM/DM positions. You need him in case of unlucky injuries streak of main/rotation players for these positions.
Here's recommended team setup from OP. Can you put your players the way in order to see how well it suites?

P.S. This team setup haven't been taken out of thin air, you need it in order to use Overload and Waste Time version and also to be protected from injuries.
Let's take for example Daley Blind. Here's his attributes:I added the plan for what I want to do with my team in my post before (seemed to do it at the same time you posted XD)
Other example... let's take Di Maria. Here’s his attributes:

In this tactic player on MC position is supposed greatly contribute to defense and in order to do that he must have good level of Positioning, Marking, Tackling, Work Rate, Teamwork, Strength, Jumping Reach and some other attributes.
Minimal recommended level for these attributes: Positioning - 12 Marking - 10, Tackling - 10 Work Rate - 14, Teamwork – 14, Strength – 10, Jumping Reach – 9. I want stress it one more time that it's only minimal recommended level and you want these attributes slightly higher but as you can see Di Maria misses heavily even minimal levels.
For example, here's player I use for MC position:

Blind is just a utility man that is back up for all the defensive positions.
- Both Wing Backs get tired during matches because they contribute a lot to attack and defense so I would recommend to use subs for them.
This is the team I want to get:
GK: De Gea
DCL: Rojo (New signing?)
DC: Vertonghen (Evans)
DCR: Jones (New Signing?)
WBL: Shaw (New Signing?)
WBR: Rafael (New Signing?)
DM: Strootman (Blind)
CM: Herrera (New Signing?)
AM: Di Maria (Januzaj)
ST(s): Rooney (Mata, retrained to ST)
ST: RVP (Falcao)
Not so sure Herrera is best for CM
Blind simply can't be just utility man because 2nd players for WBL/WBR positions have such importance as main players because almost every match they play at least 1/3 of the match. I usually subs the about 60 min by that time they usually have condition less than 78%.
