What approach suits my team / I need a Tactic

Hi guys, great thread you're running, very useful too. I thought that I might find some help here. I'm struggling with a 3-4-1-2 formation for maybe months now. It seems as this is (personally) the most difficult tactic to get to work. I want to develop it for my Juventus team because this year, and years before, we are not having the greatest fullbacks, you might say the suck and you'll be correct. On the other hand we have very decent players for an 3-4-1-2 setup. Aquilani in the hole, Marchisio and Melo in the midfield, Krasic and Pepe/Lanzafame/New face on the wings, Bonucci Chiellini & maybe another new face in the defence (probably Diego Lugano as he is cheap and classy). I'll provide a screenshot a bit later on. I can't say I'm not scoring goals, I can't say even that I'm conceding a lot. If the match goes on well I might win with 4 or 5 goals but still, no matter who I play with, I'm getting destroyed literally with long shots, they just can't stop shooting and if you shoot average 10 long shots per game 1 or even 2 will get in that's for sure. This is my main problem. The long shots blizzard just seems devastating and this combined with the low ball possession I'm having (generally under 50% in games that look like losing within the first 10 minutes of the game it's even worse - under 40%). Those seem to be my weak spots in my setup. I tried playing with defensive line on the last notch of 'Push Up' and they still have like 7 long shots. Tried playing really slow and short passing game, still my possession gets no more than 50% even with weak teams. Here is my team and setup with Team instructions & list of roles and duties for each player. I'd be very very thankful if someone gives me and advice how to turn this total tactical failure into something decent.

  • GK : Keeper - Defend
  • DCL : Central Defender - Defend
  • DC : Limited Defender - Cover
  • DCR : Central Defender - Defend
  • ML : Winger - Attack
  • MCL : Ball Winning Midfielder - Defend
  • MCR : Central Midfielder - Support
  • MR : Winger - Attack
  • AMC : Attacking Midfielder - Attack
  • STCL : Poacher - Attack
  • STCR : Target Man - Attack

There's an epic thread on the 3-4-1-2 here: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php/238246-The-3-4-1-2-A-Tactical-Challenge!

I made a decent tactic on my own in FM10 a while back (76 points in the Portuguese league with a decent Sporting team in the future, it's a 30 game season), you can download it here: http://uploading.com/files/274m49c4/3-4-1-2+%28Sporting+CP%2C+Dec+2014%29.tac/

It's a workable tactic for sure.

i would personally play the dm as a deep lying playmaker with support cause that gives you a few more balls from deep to kill off a team.

id be more inclined to play the two st's as deep-lying and advanced forward with both kadlec and hernandez switching between the two until you find who works better in what position

for wbr i would get either rafinha (schalke) or diego renan (cruzeiro

hope this helps in some way

---------- Post added at 04:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 AM ----------

i change the dm to deep lying playmaker, and it works..thanks mate :D

for the 2 st,,i'm still looking whos better in which position..

oh yeah,,my striker had a problem with the shooting accuracy..they rarely shot on target everytime they shot..last matches was 5 on target from 15 shot..:@

how do you fix this problem??

sorry for my bad english, and thanks in advance :D

Glad it helped

yep thats your best bet cause im not 100% sure on those two as strikers looking at their stats.

5 on target from 15 shots isnt too bad thats 33%
if you want to improve this i would change the players preferred moves

if he has shoots from distance then tell him to stop doing this
if he doesnt then ask him to get in the oppositions area more

Help with AC Milan

Hi,

I haven't managed to get my AC Milan right. Surprinsingly, I haven't seen many good posts about Milan here. I've asked on the Onyx Tactic thread how he played with Milan in his 4-3-3 tactics, but got no response. So my question remains for whoever may help: what is a good tactic/approach for Milan?

I've tried Onyx 4-3-3, JP Woody and Ghosts tactics, not being happy with either of them (I mostly create a tactic based on theirs instead of copying 100%...). Right now I'm playing a 4-3-3 Rigid Tactic with reasonably high defensive line and width. I play Pato (Poacher) Robinho (Deep Lying Attack) and Ibra (Deep Lying Attack/Trequatista) up front, with Ambrosini Gattuso and Pirlo behind. Gattuso is ball winning, ambrosini central support, and Pirlo Advanced Playmaker Support (he plays quite well as advanced, although he should be deep lying).

My full backs are usually support (left side) and defend (right side), but I change often. I have hired a few new full backs because Milan needs them. Roberto Carlos is doing a good job on the left side, and I keep Antonini on the right.

I only play Ronaldinho when one of my forwards can't play, because he never plays well. But sometimes I put Robinho as AMC and Pato as Winger/Inside Forward.

Any tips on a better formation? A few specific questions: Zonal or Man Marking? High or Deep Defensive? Narrow or Wide? Rigid or Fluid? Primary Playmaker or Target Man (rarely use this...)?

* On paper/stats my team is doing well - I usually have 60% possesion, 3-5 CCCs, lots of play, but very few goals...

Thanks,
Big Goat

sounds like a good setup for your team tbf
not quite sure wether you mean the opposition are scoring alot of long shots if this is the case you may want to change chiellini to the centre of the cb's and make him a stopper so he and aquillani can mop up balls outside the area

if you mean your team are shooting alot then the best idea is too look at the players who are shooting alot from long range and change this setting on their player isntructions or have a private chat and ask them to either stop shooting from long range or ask them to look for the pass rather than shoot

I mean the opposition are scoring the long shots.

Thanks mate. I'll give it a go for sure.

Hey guys, Pastore and Suarez is arriving in the next transfer window so I'm thinking to change my tactic to have AMC to get the best out of Pastore. Right now, I'm using 4-4-2 with 2 wingers (inside forward).

I have Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Wilson, Zapata and Otamendi as centre back oO) I bought both Zapata and Otamendi coz they're cheap when I only want 1 CB. Tried rotating them (with the exception of Wilson) but their performance pretty much similar as each other except Carragher is performing a little better. I dont really want to change my 4-4-2 tactic [which I downloaded here - the 4-2-4 terence(sp?)] - it help me won the league last season. But with the arrival of Pastore whom everyone here said so good at scoring goals and the wingers performing inconsistently (Afellay and Sanchez), I'm thinking a 5-3-2 tactic, got the idea from Kenny Dalglish. 3 players as CB,Gerrard and Hazard as CM, Pastore as AMC, Suarez and Hulk as ST. What do you think? And what role should all these players be?Course I dont have to think about this now as it still 2months away from the next transfer window, but just planning. Or should I just retrain Pastore as AML to replace Afellay? It just that most people here said he's better as AMC..

Can you guys give me any advice on Athlectic Bilbao? currently playing a flay 4-4-2 but it isnt really working out yet.. I've bought Ander.

currently I am playing 2 wingers, an advanced playmaker(attack) and a ballwinning midfielder(defend).
In front I am playing Llorente and muniain, targetman(attack) and poacher.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but I hope you'll still help me :)
- and sorry for my english - I¨m danish, so my english gramma isn't perfect..

My problem: I'm playing with Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga. I won the 2. Bundesliga pretty easy the first season, and in the secon season I ended up as number 11 in the league.
But my third season is ****. I'm playing like ****, and I'm really struggling to avoid relegation now. I think I have players that should be able to end up in the best half of the league - maybe even getting european qualification. But I must be doing something wrong.

I player a 4-4-2, as you can see in the uploaded screenshot, and my player roles are as follow:
GK - Sweeper Keeper - Defend
DR - Full Back - Auto
DL - Full Back - Auto
DCR - Central Defender - Defend
DCL - Central Defender - Defend
MR - Wide Midfielder - Attack
ML - Wide Midfielder - Attack
MCR - Deep Lying Playmaker - Support
MCL - Central Midfielder - Attack
STCR - Advanced Forward - Attack
STCL - Poacher - Attack

Hope someone can give me a hint or two, so I can turn this around.

Cheers mates!

First, I'd like to apologize in advance if I'm in the wrong place or if someone has already asked this question before. I just started a season with Atletico Madrid and I'm playing 4-4-2 with wingers (kinda the way they play in real life). Results have been OK so far (I've just started the season and my only losses were against Inter and Barcelona. I also bought lots of players so they're still trying to gel) but my main question is since I don't play with a deep lying midfielder how can I tighten the gap between defence and midfield? I'm worried that teams with skilled advanced midfielders may make a meal out of my back four!

I was wondering if anybody knew of any tactics to help me get SOUTHPORT promoted to the npower L2 would be a massive help
cheers!!!

Try any of these formations:
  • 4-1-2-1-2
  • 4-1-3-2
  • 4-3-1-2
  • 4-2-3-1
  • 4-2-3-1 Deep

I'm with Newcastle, struggling lost first 8 games and drew twice - 2-2 against Stoke and 1-1 against Blackpool but I'm still bottom. BTW I'm using January update so any ideas on tactics to improve as I told the board I can do a mid-table finish.
