I am playing as Newcastle, and thanks to a board takeover I have some quality players and money to burn. I have Marek Hamsik at the club and he is performing well, but my scouts tell me I could sign Luka Modric for £26m. How could I effectively utilise such similar yet talented players?
I play a 4-5-1 and Sebastian Battaglia fills the DM spot as a Def. Mid. - Defend.
Currently the two CM positions are filled by Andrea Poli (Deep Lying Playmaker - Support, or Central Midfielder - Support), and Marek Hamsik (Adv. Playmaker - Attack).
I would be looking to use Poli as cover for Battaglia with a view to taking over his spot once Battaglia's age causes his attributes to decline, should I sign Modric. I was thinking about using Hamsik as a box-to-box midfielder but I have doubts as to whether he would play effectively in such a role.
So basically, I need roles and duties for Modric, Hamsik and Battaglia/Poli in a 4-5-1.
Another thing, it is January and I fear if I do not sign Modric during this window, he could sign a new deal at Tottenham, pushing his value and wage demands sky high (we may have money to burn but I'd like to be sensible), so any changes to the current set up would preferably be minimal, as not to disrupt the fantastic form the lads are on at the moment.
Any help will be very much appreciated, thanks.
