Well lucky you :P

what do you do if a team has no obvious weakness and just play normally with a 4-4-2. Is it still irrational ti expect my team's quality to see us through?

Depends if it's a home or an away game. Personally I go with my usual 4-2-3-1 (2 CMs and 3 AMCs) possession oriented tactic if I'm playing at home, start off attacking and go to control when I take the lead. If it's an away game I play 4-3-2-1 (V formation) and play counter-attacking. People who say lone strikers shouldn't play as poachers are sorely mistaken. Neymar has 29 goals in 33 matches so far.

EDIT: Noticed Sterling is set as Winger in the screenshot, but it's supposed to be IF. These tactics are of course suited to the individual players, and are not transferrable to any team with any players.

haha nice post but.. you cant call this game like real life, i think the problem they are trying make it too real that its not fun as a game anymore.. make it too real that the 3d view cant handle it or doesnt make sense.. (eg. all players are instructed not to shoot from distance yet the do it and ignore the guy stood 6 or 7 yeards free in space! they are instructed to hard tackle but they choose to walk with the runer not even close him down, not too mention GK set to play short and defender collect yet he kicks it long like a ******) they should have an option that allows you as a manager to choose walking on the pitch and puch some players in the face.. until then this game isnt real for me :-)

Actually did laugh out loud to this. Of course its not real. Its a game. If playing the likes of Call of Duty I've never heard of a real life scenario where a soldier has took 3 bullets to the back yet can still turn around and kill his attacker with a knife!

I had a **** start to this Fm13 however after much scanning on this site and other site about how to play, tactics, training and so on I have finally started having a decent season. I think the trick is having a good formation, good players that are skilled in those playing positions and the training. The constant training schedule is a must, defence training against strong teams, attack training against weaker teams and I also throw in attack tactics positions. Every week is balanced/average. Each to their own I guess, but this is working for me. Also mix it up around the 55-65minute mark and change formation I found that this messes up the IAView attachment 284876View attachment 284878View attachment 284879View attachment 284877

That advice is all well and good, but how much did you edit Liverpool's balance?!

Neymar, Isco, Nem, Thiago, Rodrigo, Zouma, Nkoulou, Alaba, ter Stegen?!?! That's at least £200m of talent right there! :S nice team though...

How do you stop wingers from the other team running down the wing and crossing pinpoint balls every single time?

Fast full backs are an option. Or you could try to prevent the wingers from ever getting the ball. If you really fear them, you might put your full backs on man marking. I personally don't like that approach, especially not if the opposition has attacking full backs, so another option would be to take their main playmaker out of the game with your best man marker. Prevent them from feeding the ball out to the wings. In real life I would also consider instructing my wingers/wide midfielders to fall back and defend as well if necessary, but I don't know if such an instruction is possible in FM. Anyway, if the crosses still keep coming and causing goals in every single game, something might be wrong with the aerial abilities of your central defenders and/or goalkeeper.

It's not every single game, that was a hyperbole but every half decent winger with a bit of pace causes me problems regardless of settings.

Who says there is no weakeness in a 4-4-2. Every tactic has a weakness. In 4-4-2 put an amc/support in the gap between mcs and cbs and you ll see the weakness. Each time you have to see the opposition tactic and think which tweaks to do so that you cover your weakness and exploit your opponents weakness. It always works for me

I didn't do anything with their finances.

My £200m guess was pretty spot on! :)

1. how did you generate £117m from sales whilst keeping most of your decent players?
2. Do Liverpool give you a £83m transfer budget to make up the difference, keeping 100% of revenue from sales?!

1. I didn't keep most of my decent players. As you can see I sold players for over £100m, including the likes of Reina, Skrtel, Enrique, Assaidi, Coates, Kelly, Johnson, Borini, Downing, Henderson and several others. Another factor playing a huge part here are the wages. Alot of the players mentioned, and including Carroll and Carragher, were on extremely high wages. By removing these I could add more to the transfer budget.
2. No, but they did give me over £40m after winning the Premier League the first season. The rest of the difference between players sold and players bought are due to paying for some of them with monthly installments, which is not reflected in the screenshot.

If I had edited the database I would have said so, I don't judge people who do that. It's a game, play it any way you want. But I can assure you I didn't do that, I play the game properly. I just used my resources wisely.

Surely you completely demolished squad consistency? :O

Well, I did win the league in the first season, and I'm currently lying 1st with 9 points to Man City and just 5 games to go. I haven't had any real problems with consistency, and I've yet to lose 2 games in a row. A few issues with players struggling to blend, but so far it hasn't had any real damaging impact on the team's performances.

Got a feeling we're kind of sliding off topic here though.

Perhaps a little :D Though it might be useful to know how you managed to get all those new players to gel that quickly. Busy pre-season? I've never in my life bought in more than a couple of instant first-team'ers in any one season and even then it often took them quite a while to get their performance level up. Cost me a few games as well. Although it probably had something to do with those players being quite young and inexperienced and it being their first venture out of their home country... - Okay, now I see the off-topicness. :P Sorry, feel free to ignore me and go back on topic, people.

Tutoring, having friends (favored personell) or teammates from the same country, training teamwork and team cohesion, and the most important part: winning matches! But of course, not everyone has been a revelation. Isco and Thiago aren't playing too well so far.

Sorry for the off topic, I'm done now :P

Set full backs to Zonal marking, close down only in own area. Stops them charging towards the winger and getting skinned. Generally makes them wait in line with CD's an close down at edge of own area.
