what to do if you just cant win? hmm..

Do what alot of people do and download a tactic, **** download a training scheme..then download a shortlist of all the great players...coaches...scouts an so on!
An then when youre to lazy to actually hit the spacebar, send them your save an let them win everything for you! EASY

while i do understand some of the points beeing made here as to the game is beeing more realistic and the people resist the changes that occur or are simply lazy i CANNOT understand why no one observes that we are not given any new weapons to counter the new realities in the game. Let's make it harder and realistic, but let's make the menus simpler and with fewer options.

1. The most important point made by the author has been that you now need to pay more attention to mind games, make subtle changes to your tactic, improvise more and start playing against the opposition's weaknesses and not only to your strenghts or the tactic you like more. While i applaud the makers for trying to do so, the liberty and creativity given to us(coaches) is not what it should be to give us a fair shake against the game's math and hazard. The 99 ch manager had great tactical options although it lacked the graphics. you had the field divided into 12 parts and you could arrange your players the way you wanted to for every one of those 12 considering what do you want them to do if the ball is in one of them or if you are in possesion or not. THAT is what i call liberty and creativity and moreover REALISTIC. i go insane every time i see my players stepping on each others toes or have 3guys beeing passive while opposition does whatever they want with the ball.
If you want to make it realistic, give me the oportunity to put my players in the field the way i want to and only then i can worry about the pressing, creative freedom, style of passing, etc. and if that fails i will know that i failed; right now i'll safely blame it on the limited options i have.

2. the training is made to make a 2 year old be able to push 3buttons and maybe get lucky. The days where you could manufacture a player and dream you are wenger of ferguson are bye-bye. although you can train a player to play a specific post everything is so ordinary and confussing at the same time. Let's say i have the general trining focused agerage on atacking but i go on that's week focus on defense very high; will the second one override the first?will it not count because of the clash?will they mix in a odd way? Who knows as long as i don't see any specifics. Maybe if i'm focusing it on atacking i'll have ter stegen training his finishing instead of handling. There is no more separation between a gk,dc and a striker. it's just scrambled eggs and i have to scramble it even more to hope they get all round training.

Well said :) Agree almost 100%
I too miss the tactic screen where you could place the players in the positions I want them to be..in any given situation, with and without the ball.
As ive said in another thread, my defenders seem to think therye playin cricket sometimes, or just dilly-dally around waitin for the opposition to score. Then they suddenly "wake up" an hold their heads in their hands! Now what would make it more realistic is if defenders acted like this at the lower lvls, an not at the very top! It doesnt seem to matter if you have a defence of cole, terry, puyol and maicon, or a defence of BSP defenders...they act the same lol

What i notice with the defenders is that every single time the opposition makes a substitution they are completely oblivious to the new player in field unless you set 1 specific player to mark him. Most of times i cannot react in time and it's a sure goal even if the player has no yellow stars (true story); very annoying, over the top and kind of kills the fun for me :(

"thirdly I focus my passing down the right"

How do you do this? I've seriously searched for this but never found it and I tought it just wasn't a possibility in the game...

The Focus Passing option is right there. In the dropdown you just select where you want the passing to be focussed. (not my screenshot btw, took it off one of the tactics topics)

I've spent three weeks trying my own tactics and downloading tactics. I can't win games with Barca...PSG...Newcastle, anybody. I haven't struggled with the Football Manager/Championship Manager title since the first year I played the game back in the early 00's. I'm beyond frustrated.......the game has lost it's luster and appeal.

you like my tactic then ?

I have to admit I just googled "fm13 tactics" for a screenshot of the tactics screen (couldn't be bothered to fire up FM myself and take one), but it does look like a decent tactic. I've used a similar tactic of my own for my Everton team already (a little more conservative than yours), getting mixed results. Mainly because I'm not quite sure when it's best to use it instead of my regular 4-3-1-2. I sometimes use it when I shouldn't and I've probably neglected it at least once when I could/should have used it. It's tough to weigh the benefits against the vulnerabilities, especially if the results have been good but the football hasn't been.

This football manager is fantastic! It needs a lot more attention than previous games but if I wasn't excited by that I'd just play fifa. I like the way more and more top players from around the world are transfer listed for one reason or another, I like how Tony Fernandes always sacks Mark Hughes by November (this week, fingers crossed). Although I've also struggled with tactics from previous fms I've completely started again with creating tactics (even resorting to classic tactic mode). With hours of tweaking I feel I have a few good base tactics that I alter slightly from game to game.

Things I don't like are the high number of disallowed goals and where high profile defenders seem to have make stupid mistakes so often!

well....

I understand that the game has been made harder and more complicated. thats completely fair enough but when you have teams like Norwich beating Arsenal 3-0 when they've had 30% possession and 3 shots I think we're getting a bit done over! If the goals had been counter attack goals I could have understood but shooting while facing they're own goal and lobbing my keeper while he's on the line is ridiculous! You can't make your 'tactics' stop that occurring! We all know football manager never really works properly until the update in January but come on this is crazy! I know so many people are going to say oh your tactics are wrong blah blah blah but i played Cambridge Untd in a friendly in pre season and we drew 1-1 i had 34 shots! they had 1 and surprise surprise it went in. Think this will be the last Football Manager game I buy for a very long time!

if i just can't win the game...easy just exit the game and load the last game all over and over again till i won the game or at least got a draw :P (always save your game before submitting the squad)

yeah, thats called cheating mate.. lol!

I don't know if it is cheating or not but isn't it really boring to play the same match 10 times until you get lucky? And how long does it take to get trough a season? :)

Short of a cheating maybe & also boring as well perhaps, but i always consider this kinda process as trial and error. You see lads, when i restarting the game, i ain't only seating tight but try to tweaking up my tactic or reassemble my player position or try a different preparation-mid half talk or even try different touchline instructions. So at the end, i won't have to restart the game anymore and win the game :D
I bet you got your best tactic from this kinda process though, what makes different is...i won't let my team lose at early stage..they allowed to be lose after gripping the tittle with some points ahead of the other contenders!! lol :D

the worst case experience...i'd restart the game for 5 times!! lol

I wont lie to you, in my first save with FM13 i did replayed a lot of matches to figure out what was going on, but the purpose of the game is progress, building a team or club up to the top so in normal circumstances i like to take whatever result i get, learn from the experience and move on.

Possible exception maybe if i messed up really bad somewhere along the line of the build up or line up selection...

2 reloads is my limit, after that i give up and move on :)

Hhhhmmm on second thought, maybe this is the time i had to limit the "restart method"....yeah 2 times seem enough bro :)

Love this thread. Nice to see people aren't just moaning about the ME or Team Talks.

When I got the demo i tried some formations with the bigger teams, found one that worked eventually!! . Team Talks didn't work due to reputation being poor I assume. This was fustrating but...

I have now started with Bournemouth (started unemployed) and am top of the league (just!). Play a 4-1-2-1-2 and short passing, attacking. Is working well. Sure I don't always win and sometime loose but this is mainly when my players have poor games. THIS HAPPENS IN REAL LIFE!!!

I think this game is very realistic and a lot of managers with no former experience would find it tough in the Prem. I am enjoying my new career game, and hope to stick with it for some time. Do your research on teams and get your training right and you will get there!

the game has a huge flaw... in early games, even if you manage in countries with bad players, like finland or iceland, your team do mistakes, rivals dont... i saw conceding loads of goals due to mistakes and my players just stopping running

this isnt realistic, even if i ask to stuck in, the players dont do so

i fine players whenever they play bad, i pay for working, not for lazyness
